Subject: LYRIC SEARCH: his eye is on the sparrow
From: Kathleen
Date: 19 Jul 98 - 02:20 PM

I have been searching for the words to a hymn (I think) which contains the words "His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me". I have searched everywhere, and am not able to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Beannacht, Kathleen

I don't suppose you have the opening line of verse or chorus? I have a lot of Hymnbooks, but the index doesn't list last lines.
Blessings,
Barbara

Well, Kathleen, a good place to find such songs is the cyberhymnal at http://tch.simplenet.com/Default.htm You will find not only the lyrics but also it will play the tune and you can read about the songwriter. Anyway, here are the lyrics you requested:

HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW
Words: Civilla Durfee Martin
Music: Charles Hutchinson Gabriel

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain:
I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

"Let not your heart be troubled," His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Refrain

Oops, Kathleen, I guess double the question gets double the answer. I don't know how my responses sometimes get doubled. Then I come back later sometimes and the second one is gone. I'm so cyber-confused.

Guest, Dianna,
if it's this one, try

3. Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled (J. Stewart, I. Nichols)

I remember Sunday mornings, sittin' on Grandpa's knee
The congregation singing "Rock of Ages, Cleft for me"
The preacher spoke of Heaven, he warned about the fires of Hell
He taught the love of Jesus and drawing life from the living well

Chorus
Children, let not your life be troubled
By thing you can't do nothin' about
If his eye is on the sparrow
Then He sure won't let you down

Hi, Dianna -
I'll bet the song you're seeking is in this thread, so I moved your request here.
