Subject: BS: Dublin here I come whats on? From: fogie Date: 20 Mar 03 - 05:00 AM I'm going to travel to Dublin on the 5th of April. Has anyone there any info on What's on , Where cheap to stay , Pub music , Where to eat - for the following few days . Thank you in advance. I'll be going on foot, presumably from North Wales- any tips on travel? |
Subject: RE: BS: Dublin here I come whats on? From: Bev and Jerry Date: 20 Mar 03 - 02:08 PM Fogie: We were there last May and stayed at Parkway Guest House on Gardiner Place. It's not fancy but it's clean. Cost about 70 Euros/night for two with bath and breakfast. It's an easy walk to downtown and there's frequent bus service, too. The neighborhood is safe during the day but we took a taxi home from late night sessions (about 5 Euros). It's owned by Eileen but her son, Seamus, runs it. He's very knowledgable and will help you with anything but, whatever you do, don't bring up the subject of hurling unless you've got lots of time. There are also many hostels in Dublin which are even cheaper. We found two fine restaurants on the north side of Temple Bar near Anglsea Street and another fine Italian restaurant on Wicklow Street about two blocks west of Grafton. We can't remember the names of any of them, of course. We were in Ireland for three weeks and had nothing but good meals so you can hardly go wrong. For music try here or here. |

From: iRiShBaBe Date: 20 Mar 03 - 03:17 PM temple bar is where everything happens! its a little bit off grafton street but well worth the visit. you can get lots of accommodation thats relitavely cheap but youre better off shopping around first. lots of hostels around too. the only thing i will say is BE CAREFUL! dublin can, like nearly every other city in the world, be very dangerous. |

Subject: RE: BS: Dublin here I come whats on? From: GUEST,JTT Date: 21 Mar 03 - 12:29 PM Avalon guesthouse - or hostel - is supposed to be nice, and cheap. You'll miss Sean-Nos Cois Life, unfortunately - sean-nos lessons and events April 19. Go to Claddagh Records in Cecilia Street (www.iol.ie and the Mapping link) and they'll tell you what's on. And don't miss the Ceol music museum in Smithfield. |
Subject: RE: BS: Dublin here I come whats on? From: GUEST Date: 21 Mar 03 - 05:55 PM Not sure what sort of travel tips you want – but if you mean from North Wales to Dublin then get yourself to Holyhead, get on a boat, and get off in Dublin. :^) Quite a few good restaurants in and around Temple Bar. My favourites are the Café Topolis (Italian, Parliament Street) and Gallagher's Boxty House (bit hackneyed Oirish, but good hearty grub and not terribly expensive). The restaurant on Wicklow Street that Bev and Jerry mentioned may have been Bellissimo. Claddagh Records in Cecilia Street is easy enough to find once you're in the Temple Bar area. At lunchtime, try the pubs – hey, try the pubs anyway, har har. O'Neill's of Suffolk Street does hot food and sandwiches that are good value for money. As a direct result, the downside is that it can be BUSY at lunchtime. And for good coffee, try any of the branches of Rio that are around the inner south side. There's about 5, in and around Wicklow Street, Exchequer Street, Trinity Street and Dame Street. |
