Please point me to the directions for posting reference to articles or photos or to posting a website to click on. Has this been covered by a thread? Thank you

Copy the address to whatever it is, then click on "Make a link ("blue clicky") underneath the box where you type your message. You tthen can copy the result and paste it into the message window. (Use "Preview" if you want, to make sure it works right.) Hope that helps.

posterchild -

Are you wanting to know how to post, or what to post?

The Newcomer's Guide/FAQ that kat linked above has quite a bit of stuff to look at, if you scroll up or down from the "how to make a link" where her blicky lands you.

There have been a number of threads discussing what to post, but picking the best and most current one may take a while. People have their own "favorites," so maybe someone will have one they'll add a link to.

You should not post graphics, pictures, and such; and using excessive amounts of "fancy html" is discouraged in discussion threads.

If you want to practice the fancy html, you should find an "html practice thread," where it's understood the stuff will be deleted after a while. Best way to practice though is on your own machine, since your browser will display stuff you "save as .htm" from your word processor exactly the same way it displays something that's actually posted.

Anything that's likely to be around on the web for a reasonable time should be linked, rather than copied and pasted into a thread.

If you find something that's likely to disappear - as in a daily newsletter, pasting a brief extracted text is ok, if it helps to explain; but should be accompanied by your own summary and comments - and a link or at least the URL (web address) for those who get there soon enough to see the original if they want to. (If it's not interesting enough for you to give your opinion, we're not likely to be too interested either.)

It's a good idea when you post something to always click back to the thread and see if your contribution looks like what you intended. If something's badly messed up, you can go to HELP and leave a message, and the "clones" can usually clean it up.

If someone answers a thread, it's always good to make a point of letting them know that you've checked back and seen the answer(s). Often you'll be able to clarify what it is you really want to know, or will be able to add something to information you've shared with us.

John

Just a reminder that if you want to link to an article about music, it is preferred that you copy and paste the entire article into a thread, rather than just add a link.

There's also this guideline on copy-pasting the text of articles. As Kat says, for music articles, please post the entire text, if you can - plus a link to where you got the article.
For non-music articles, please don't post anything more than about what fills up your computer monitor screen - post a summary in your own words, plus a link to the source.
Thanks.
