Back in the late 70's a friend of mine sang a song containing the words
- " pretty little fat girl slept inside my bed"- it's a slow mellow song and I seem to remember him saying it was by Ewan McColl. If it was by Ewan McColl I can't find and reference it it, does this ring a bell with anyone, (the song that is, not old memories!) My friend Eddie was a big folkie and an excellent guitarist at the time and I'm sure he picked it up whilst on the local folk scene back then.

Ewan McColl be bu**ered - that song is by fellow Mudcatter Harvey Andrews!

"Sweet little fat girl, slept in my bed, Keeping me warm, keeping me fed. Blushing and turning and shaking her head, saying, be gentle and love me."

It's on Harvey's album "Friends of Mine".

Harvey's website will have details of the availability of the album, and maybe even the lyrics. I don't have the URL handy, but a Google for "Harvey Andrews" should reveal it.

Great song, great album - well worth getting.

Ewan MacColl indeed!! Ah well, I suppose that's the folk process!
However the album is not available on the website at the moment as I'm negotiating with the owners of my recorded work for the rights to produce the cd for the next three years. Should have it all sorted within a few weeks.

The song is "Sweet Little Fat Girl," by Harvey Andrews, and the album is "Friends of Mine," Fly LP #15, 1973. I couldn't find any lyrics or sound samples online.

Thanks for putting me right to the correct writer (sorry Harvey), at least I nearly got the words correct. The song has stayed with me for 25 years and although I played a bit of guitar then, it is only in the past 4 years I've taken it up more seriously. It was for this reason I wanted more info on the song. It's testement to the song that a fraction of it survived in my mind for this long and pushed me in to finding out more.
I'd be grateful if any one had the lyrics or knew if they have been published, even better if it came with chords.
I'll keep a look out for the LP/CD and many thanks to all that replied.
