List of participants:

Anne & Ute (Germany)
Eric the Viking (UK)
Frank & Iris (Germany)
Glen & Ron (UK/Belgium)
Ken Gilman (US/Belgium)
Mooman & Lady McMoo (UK/Belgium)
MudGuard (Germany)
Skipjack (UK)

Wilfried (Germany)
Wolfgang (Germany)
and assorted Dutchmen.

Did I miss anyone?
Of course we'll miss you, Llanfair, Noreen, Alanww & others!

Meanwhile, I reserved in Sally O'Briens, and we're going to eat in the pub, not the restaurant. Made reservations for 10 (including me and my brother), at 19.30h, anyone who's later can join us, no problem. Kitchen closes at 21h, but you can always get a snack
"from the wall" as they call it here: there are walls with little compartments filled with hamburgers, frikadellen and other greasy stuff!

Arriving on Friday afternoon/night:
MudGuard
Mooman
Frank, Iris, Anne & Ute
Susanne & Wolfgang (probably latish)
Skip & Eric (late)
Wilfried (latish)

Arriving on Saturday:
Lady McMoo
Ken Gilman
Glen & Ron
Volker

I told the very nice manager at Sally O'Briens we may be bringing instruments, and he was perfectly alright with that, so we can have a session there.

Directions for free parking for Susanne (but you'll be coming to the pub first, won't you?):

Follow the direction for Deliplein until the last set of traffic lights (at the Korreweg), where, instead of turning left, you go straight ahead.
At the next set of traffic lights (Bedumerweg), get in lane to go straight ahead, but instead take a left onto the 'service road' straight ahead (explanation: the road you're on, which is covered with tarmac, used to be a canal. On the sides are the old streets (stone). You want to take the old street on the right-hand side).
Take the first street to your right (Almastraat) and find a parking spot!

To walk to Willem's: go back to the main road (Bedumerweg), cross it. Behind the snackbar, take the Riouwstraat. Take the first street on your left (Bilitonstraat). After a few yards, you can turn right onto the Sabangplein (not a street, but a place/enclosure/Platz). On your left is an archway to the Deliplein. Inside the archway, it's number 116!

Have been searching for chocolate toffepops without success, tried the best stores around here.No one in the supermarkets knows them. Brands go out of date and are dropped or re-named. How long ago was this? (Can't be long because you are young)Is there a substitute in case of failure?

Letty, is it normal shop opening hours on Saturday, and late (12.00/13.00 hours) on Monday? What about Sunday? I'm starting to get packed already !!

Toffypops are made in Edinburgh, so maybe they're not on sale in England, see here . She likes Lemon Bonbons (Bassett's)too.
Hm, if you're going shopping in England, could you bring my father some marmalade and me some ginger snaps (I'll pay you back)?

Saturday, shops are open normally, Sunday a bit later, Monday is a holiday, so most shops will be closed. But on the other hand, there will be loads to do on Monday anyway.

What type of marmalade? Golden shred? (The best), thick cut, thin cut? Orange, lemon or other ? Will get onto the shopping tomorrow! Don't know about the toffypops though, don't remember seeing them in the shops.Ginger snaps are what we call brandy snaps (don't know why, there's no Brandy, only ginger!)How many of each? Will do me best. See you.

Aha! I told you it was rain, looks set for all weekend according to the weather forecast, but we English arn't interested in the weather.

Letty. I have found you a posh substitute for toffypopps!. Over here Lemon Bopnbons are sold in bags not boxes, weighed out at the shop, is this alright?

I only ask because the European directive on tracable sources of foodstuffs.

Bron, what a pity you can't make it after all! I'd have loved to see you again. I may be coming to North Wales in early June. PM me if you're likely to be home and wouldn't mind me dropping in.

All the rest: See you on Friday!

What shall we do on Monday? Greg and I will need to leave around 16.00 hours at the latest. (Checked train times). I'll be happy to wander round town, or play somewhere.

Oh so soon, so soon!! In 48hours, you'll be meeting us at the station, if the plane flies on time, we catch the train etc, etc.

Goodnight all.

Eric: I'm happy with almost anything vaguely gingery :-)
I don't think bringing lemon bonbons will be a problem, as they're not likely to contain meat. And no eggs, I think.
I don't know what we'll do on Monday, plenty of time to decide when you're there!
Could you re-post when you think you'll be in Groningen?

Susanne: I don't know any of those things! If they're sausages, then no thank you ;-)

Mooman: could you tell me what time you'll be arriving in Assen on Friday night? My parents can then drive (or lead) you up to Groningen.

Hi Letty, will post train arrival time tonight. But from memory about 23.35. If we ar'nt held up by flights, customs, baggage reclaim etc. We should get the 21.20 'ish train from Schipol. There is one (change at Amersfort) at 20.53 but I doubt we'll manage that one, so we are looking to be in Gronigen about 23.45'ish. I have 200grm of Lemon bonbons now for your mother, Marmalade for father, and will get ginger biscuits for you this evening.Anything else?

Bye for now.

So everyone, according to very good sources, there is a folk festival this weekend. There is a Canadian band on as well in Groningen. The information has been on TV on a programme called. "Kopspijkers".

Is this right, do we have competition or allies?

Do you know about this Letty?

Hm, my parents are fans of the programme, but I haven't heard about a folk festival. Nor can I find it on the internet. I'll have another look, but I don't think it will interfere!
Just got a ring from a Dutch friend of Susanne's who's coming over from The Hague to join us.

Well Eric and Greg have arrived, despite Greg giving up my seat to one and a half Dutch ladies on the train! Mind you they were both wearing only the one set of clothes, they make them big over here! So squashed, nudged and elbowed we continued our journey, found the lovely Letty and were taken on a ride round Groningen, (twice)because the road was closed!!A bit like driving round Munster. There were loads of people in the pub, they soon left when we arrived. But amongst those who stayed were,MudGuard,Wolfgang, Wilfried, Susanne,Frank,Iris, and Letties fan club. Richard, was also there and sober (well he said he was)

Skipjack is in luck tonight, he's sharing the floor with me and Letty's dog.(Who has curly hair and looks sheeplike!)MudGuard can bear witness to the fact that Greg has just said he is desperate!! I hope I am safe, unlike Portaferry!! But that bugger Alanwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww isn't here either,so it's on to the dog! Goodnight,or rather as it is 03.10 hrs Nl time.Good morning.
