Hello All,

I'll be in Phoenix, as in Arizona, May 23-May 28 and would love to hook up with some of you questionable Mudcat types for jamming or singing-around. I won't have a guitar with me, but I always carry my voice (and sometimes my voice carries me).

Anyone know of someplace I can satisfy my music jones while I"m there?

Thenkyew,
WyoWoman

Geeze, Wyo -- San Diego is only a few hours from Phoenix -- much less, if you fly! C'mon over and set a spell!! Walk on the beach, you can borrow my guitar and if you need a crash pad, consider it done.

Try here Wyo. Real nice, real nice folks. You might call first just to be sure about times, etc.

The you gotta try Doug R. They do a great Irish Session at his local on Sunday night. It's a great pub, and they do a bit of singing too.

This looks great, Jed. Thank you so much. I'll make sure and get there. Think they'd mind a little a capella vocal music? I'm waiting for DougR to weigh in as well. I'll email him if I haven't heard in a bit.

Thanks, Mr. Amos, for yer kind offer. Happily, visiting my umm-friend is what I'm doing in the Phoenix area, so I don't think we'll be inclined to travel on this go 'round. But one-a these days...

Love and sparklers,
WW

Ok -- I looked closer. It's not an open mike on the weekend, so nivvermind about the singing thing. BUT it'll be good to go out in a SMOKE-FREE environment and be with people who actually listen to the musicians. Wow! What a concept!

Thanks again, Jed.

OH, OH, OH!!! I meant to tell you! I heard you on Kansas Public Radio in Lawrence last week. Who-HOOO! A star!

Coolio!

WyoWoman,

Too bad your timing's just a little off. Fid's has song circles and open stages on Thursdays, elsewhere the jams are mostly earlier in the month. Oops, no, on the last Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 9, there's a variety evening -- sing-along, local bands, dancing, comedy, parody, etc. It's in the Clubhouse in Youngtown (a retirement community, maybe??), 12033 Clubhouse Square, 6:30-9. (Info: Paul, 623-939-2406).

Other coffeehouses for listening are: Monday nights at the Peoria Public Library, 8463 W. Monroe, Peoria, 7-8:30, Free admission (info: 623-773-7555). Another one at the Glendale Public Library on the 4th Wednesday, but I assume you'll be heading out that day.

This info is from the Arizona Picker's and Grinner's Society newsletter. I've no personal experience with any of the above (except playing at Fiddler's Dream and being asked to play in Peoria).

Don't know if you're into it, but there is also a contra dance on Saturday the 24th, 7:30-10:30, Kenilworth School, 1210 N. 5th Ave (just north of I-10).

Should you care to drive 2 hours for it, down in Tucson there's an Irish session that permits the occasional song on Thursday night, the 22nd (it's 2nd and 4th Thursdays). It's at Yankee Doodle Pizza, 1929 E. Grant Rd., 8-10 pm.

Thanks, Becky.
I'll be coming back from time to time, so I'll file this away and see if I can synchronize my schedule. I've never been to Tucson, but I want to come down there sometime, so one of these days...

Cheers,
WW

Well, definitely get in touch if you do get down our way, or if you want Phoenix info for other times of the month.
