Subject: RE: Lyr/Chrd Req: Mississippi Delta Blues From: alanabit Date: 30 Apr 03 - 07:48 AM Another Mudcatter kindly found this for me a few weeks ago. I learned the guitar part from Stefan Großmann's notation some years ago. I can't recall who wrote it. Was it Blind Blake? MISSISSIPPI BLUES 1. Goin' down to the Delta. Where I can have my fun. Goin' down to the Delta. Where I can have my fun. Where I can drink my white lightnin', gamble. . . I can bring my baby home. 2. Don't the Delta look lonesome When that evening sun go down? [Spoken]: Just 'bout good an' dark. Don't this Delta look lonesome When that evenin' sun goes down? Well, you been lookin' for your baby Don't know where she could be found. [Spoken]: Boy, I was lookin' all over town for her, you know dat? 3. Goin' back to my use-to-be, Although that she have done me wrong. Goin' back to my use-to-be, Although that she have done me wrong. Well, I think I'll have to forgive her 'Cause I'm tired o' driftin' through this world alone. [Spoken]: Ain't that a cryin' shame? 'Cause I started to think about her a whole lot o' times. And she way down Mississippi, and here I am up here! 4. She treats me dirty, But I love her just the same. Well, she treats me dirty, But I love her just the same. Well, it just breaks my heart to hear. . . Lord, some other men call her name. [Spoken with instrumental]: They better not do that! 5. Now goodbye, I'm gon' leave you, An' I won't be back no more. [Spoken]: I ain't gon' be gone that long, you know— Now goodbye, I'm gon' leave you, An' I won't be back no mo'. Man, my mind gets to ramblin'— See you in Nineteen and Forty-fo'. |

Muddy water in my shoes... Now I got those Mississippi delta blues Which I think is on Eddie Walkers "Red Shoes" album |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chrd Req: Mississippi Delta Blues From: steadigene Date: 30 Apr 03 - 12:09 PM Way out on the levee strolling in the pale moonlight you can hear those steamboats> Yes. Starts out "With friends around and even plas that I know are true......" It's been covered a lot. Merle does a version of it, among other folks. It's a Jimmie Rodgers tune. Gene |

Muddy water in my shoes... Now I got those Mississippi delta blues (instrumental break..."Take it away Mr Greenwood!) Way out on the levee strolling in the pale moonlight you can hear those steamboats 'cross the fields of snowy white Got a feeling I can't loose... Muddy water in my shoes... When I get those Mississippi delta blues... When I get those Mississippi delta blues (I play it in D but thats just my opinion :) ) |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chrd Req: Mississippi Delta Blues From: Janie Date: 02 May 03 - 09:35 AM I really love Tommy Thompson's (Red Clay Rambler's) rendition. I'm not where I can confirm it right now, but I think it was on Merchant's Lunch. |
