Had we but world enough, and time,
This BS, lady, were no crime.
HEre in a BS lover's nook
We could spend years upon each kook!
A century to random language loose,
And one for every poem by Bearded Bruce!
Millennia we'd slowly gladly see
Pass in the parsing of young Rapparree
ANd then a thousand years or even two
Examining the utterances of Gnu.
But at my back, like some forgotten bomb
I hear the rustling, harping voice of Mom
Urging the days and posts from every mind
To leave BS upon the sands of Time.

Notice, Amos, as through the thread you tread
That I did stop at five oh five nine nine
And not grab. like hungry pig,
The next hundred, Oh! so big!
But now I post and feel so much alive
For I or someone will get 5-0-6-0-5.

My ticket is in hand; the time draws nigh
When I will take unto the silvered sky
ANd leave the desert smoke and fire below
And to the far north of the nation go.
Then for a week I will meander
Like some long lost, tempest-torn Lysander
Into the mountainous wilds with all my will,
Where high winds face the high Olympic hills,
Where fogs and misted breezes prattle
Down to the sea, just northwest of Seattle.
Therefore be still, dear Mom, and strong of heart
For though we seperated be, we shall not part!
And when eight days have passed, will end your wait
By coming back to settle up your fate
And put young Rapp again upon the strait.

Adjustable T. Gollywobble
High Winds In the Early Spring

And just to show our Mom that I'm alive,
Here's FIVE OH SIX and then OH FIVE
A number which will soon grow bigger,
ANd looks more graceful done in figgers:

5          0          6       0      5

Ecce gratum
    et optatum
    Ver reducit gaudia.
    purpuratum
    floret pratum.
    Sol serenat omnia.
    iamiam cedant tristia!
    Aestas redit,
    nunc recedit
    Hiemis saevitia.

    Iam liquescit
    et decrescit
    grando, nix et cetera.
    Bruma fugit,
    et iam sugit
    Ver Aestatis ubera.
    illi mens est misera,
    qui nec vivit,
    nec lascivit
    sub Aestatis dextera.

    Gloriantur
    et laetantur
    in melle dulcedinis
    qui conantur,
    ut utantur
    praemio Cupidinis.
    simus iussu Cypridis
    gloriantes et
    laetantes
    pares esse Paridis.

There you go, again....

From Carmina Burana, by C. Orff:

Behold, the welcome and desirable Spring brings back joys. The brightly coloured meadow is in flower. The sun brightens everything. Now let sorrows depart! Summer returns, now the rage of Winter retires.

Now hail, snow and the rest turn to water and flow away. Winter flees and already Spring sucks at the breasts of Summer. He bears an unhappy heart who neither lives nor plays under Summer's right hand.

They who strive to enjoy the reward of Cupid rejoice and take pleasure in honey sweetness. Let us be at the command of the Cyprian (Venus), glorying and rejoicing to be the equals of Paris.

No, it's from the original of the "Carmina Burana." One assumes that the reader will know both Latin and the source of the poem or prose:

Laudatus propter elegantias dominus: "Aequum, inquit, Mars amat. Itaque iussi suam cuique mensam assignari.

Rotundum enim repositorium duodecim habebat signa in orbe disposita, super quae proprium convenientemque materiae structor imposuerat cibum: super arietem cicer arietinum, super taurum bubulae frustum, super geminos testiculos ac rienes, super cancrum coronam, super leonem ficum Africanam, super virginem steriliculam, super libram stateram in cuius altera parte scriblita erat, in altera placenta, super scorpionem pisciculum marinum, super sagittarium oclopetam, super capricornum locustam marinam, super aquarium anserem, super pisces duos mullos.

MOM was real excited to see a mule deer doe this evening, wanted to come home and look up sausage recipes. Fortunately for this doe, the camera is never fatal when shooting.

Went up to upstate NY last weekend to meet with the land-use officer for town of Exeter. I have a 10,000 sq ft schoolhouse 8 miles from Cooperstown, and plan to retire up there. Almost enough room there for my books.

On the drive from my friends' house 7 miles away to the schoolhouse, I saw one rabbit and two deer on the road- NO cars. On the way back, there was one wild turkey- again, no other cars.

I have GOT to get the place fixed up and move up there!

Wells in that area are high sulphur ( 6 miles from Richfield Springs, NY).

The spring is sweet water.

Lots of lovely Herkimer quartz in the region, if I recall! I have had my eye on an old schoolhouse for decades - I used to drive past all of the time on my way to work in the Cascade Mountains from near Seattle in Washington. It is in the town of Oso (yes, the one with the mud slide). It is about 4-5 miles west of the slide area, but with that activity it certainly merits a second look for anyone who decides to move in and refurbish.

Turns out it was a white tail deer the other evening, I got more photos and we looked, where else, at the tail. White when it's up in flight.

Mom asked me to tell everyone that one hundred and fifty (150) rounds of .45-70 Government ammunition with 405 grain lead round-nosed, flat pointed bullets weighs just about an ounce over 14 pounds, or 6.38 kilograms.

This factoid is brought to you by Mom MOAB herself.

Stand is cool. Fall down dead? Not so much.

Let Bacchus' sons be not dismayed
But join with me, each jovial blade
Come, drink and sing and lend your aid
To help me with the chorus:

cho: Instead of spa, we'll drink brown ale
And pay the reckoning on the nail;
No man for debt shall go to jail
From Garryowen in glory.

We'll beat the bailiffs out of fun,
We'll make the mayor and sheriffs run
We are the boys no man dares dun
If he regards a whole skin.

Our hearts so stout have got no fame
For soon 'tis known from whence we came
Where'er we go they fear the name
Of Garryowen in glory.

And then.. yer fucked.

If a projectile has an initial velocity of 2000 mps and mass of 100 grams at an angle of 62 degrees, and assuming standard temperature and pressure along the entire trajectory, how far must the projectile travel for its mass to be reduced by 7 grams if the projectile is composed of a) bronze, b) iron, and c) yttrium? Please show your work and do not copy from your neighbor, who is probably wrong. You may assume 1.3 gravities.

I have returned from sailing a day on Lake union; from meandering up the long wooded trail tot he Falls of Crescent Lake; from pounding the high steps to the Big Cedar; from ambling the tide-pools on Beach Four north of Klahalock; from dancing with the Fenton Troll and dowsing in the hot springs of Sol Duc; from pondering the snow-capped Olympics from the heights of Hurricane Ridge and from the mossy depths of the Hoh Rain Forest where the barred owl rules. I have smelled the sweat of the glass-blowers and heard the joys of the folksingers at the FolkLife festival, murmured over old Martins at Dusty Springs and meditated on the wild salmon facing their tribulations as they pass the locks. I have climbed the Needle of Space and walked the shadows of the Pike Market underground, and mastered the torment of the Seattle West bridge and the 99 south. All this and more have I done this week hence.

And I alone have come to Mom to tell thee.

It's Kalaloch, not Klahalock. Just north of Queets. I can't tell you how many summer vacation treks we made out to the ocean when I was a kid. Endless days of sand and water and sun, unless of course it rained, and then it was good to know that Queets was nearby and had a funky little old motel.

Oh, fer...Amos, I said "Standard Temperature and Pressure" (abbreviated "STP"). That is, the NIST standard of a temperature of 20°C (293.15 K, 68°F)and an absolute pressure of 101.325 kPa (14.696 psi, 1 atm). You've got the data you need and this is NOT an "open book" test.

Yes, the Olympic Peninsula could be called "waaaaaaaay cool." We even spent a couple of days in Neah.

APologies for the typo. They call it "Clay-Lock" so there's no telling how ti was orignally spelled. What is really impressive about it is that the pre-Columbian natives named it "safe place to land", when in fact the surf zone all along that coast except for the stream deltas is ferocious and would require really skilled, tireless boatsmanship to land a boat through, especially a log canoe.

Thanks for the map, Stilly--I am still haunted by those images of the deep primeval woods.

Here's a bigger collection of images from the Olympics and Seattle.

It was really a great vacation the kind that lingers in the heart even when the memories have begun to fade.
