Nope. Don't twitter. Barely Facebook.

What's a screen capture? Does it involve trapping Chongo?

Ed, I'm entitled to get as worked up as I want when it comes to a food calculated to suck the joy of eating out of any food it touches, and not only that, it will bind up your innards worse that sucking down a bag of plaster of paris.

Here's that screen shot. I had to type in the number of posts myself. So I took out the name of the company handling the linking. Heck with them, if they can't count this high!

I'm right behind ya on that, Stilly. "no fat sour cream" is more un-natural then blue M&M's.

When I was in Korea you could get barbecued dog in the ville. If you need a recipe there are several on the WWW.

Run baby, run!
THere's a man with a gun!
He's dirty and he's louche
And he's aiming for your pooch
'Cuz he wants to put your dachshund on a bun.

On a bun!
On a bun!
Yes, he wants to put your dachshund on a bun!
Though it could be a lot leaner
He just hankers for your weiner
So ya better grab that weiner dog and run.

Yeh, I haven't figured out yet how no fat and cream go together on the same label.

No fat half-and-half is half what?

Dachshunds fear just the sort of scenario you are describing, Amos. They know well that they appear delicious to larger predators who are higher up the food chain.

The questions is whether or no humans are higher on the food chain than dachshunds.

In Newfoundland< Canada....fat is king. The top three causes of death, I am told, is from heart attack, stroke, and burns from a fish and chip mobile truck exploding.

Half-and-Half is half milk and half cream.

If you take the butter-fat out of cream, seems to me you no longer have cream, but have no-fat milk.

If you take the fat out of cream what do you do with it? Which has just brought to mind a brilliant thought:

Cows are raised and milked on dairy farms. The fat is removed from the cream. Why not simply raise low-fat cows? We could have them giving low-fat milk and low-fat cream and low-low-fat half-and-half (adding two negatives makes a larger negative sum) and our dairy products wouldn't have to be manipulated as they now are! At the end of their useful life, the cows could be slaughtered and sold as low-fat beef!

I don't understand where all that fat comes from anyway, because cows don't eat fatty grass. I mean, when was the last time you heard someone take about "well-marbled bluestem" or "high-fat gramma"? I suspect that cows are actually carnivores and only eat fatty animals.

Creative? perhaps.

Brilliant? I don't think so.

But I do know what I like in my coffee, and it ain't fat-free half-and-half. Condensed milk or even Coffee-Mate is preferable. (Actually, I'm girding my loins for my health care practicioner to tell me next visit to take all dietary means available to reduce my cholesterol intake.

Bet Chongo doesn't have to worry about such silliness.

Fat content from different cattle breeds do differ....as seen at this site:http://www.essortment.com/all/dairiescattleb_rixu.htm

Traditionally, farmers wanted higher fat content,as the fat is separated for other products....like butter, cheese and cream. Years ago, in some areas the milk was of no value....the cream (32% fat) was separated and sold, and the skim milk fed to pigs...Today, the whole milk is sold and separated at dairy plants.

Wondering about goats milk....some see it as superior to cows....you be the judge:

While cow's milk is ideal food for calves, it is not good food at all for human beings. The consumption of cow's milk and other dairy products is a major contributor to a host of common illnesses. Milk clogs up your digestive system with mucus which coats the stomach and the intestinal walls and interferes with your ability to digest and absorb nutrients. It cause congestions throughout the body and aggravates the whole system, it causes skin problems, constipation, and is a probable contributor to a number of forms of cancer. The milk that is commercially sold is also full of hormones and chemical additives which are very bad for you.

The reason you hear about how great it is to drink milk all the time is simple. There's a gigantic dairy industry out there that wants you to drink the stuff, and they pay for the advertising that you here and see, even going to schools to propagandize children into drinking more milk every day of their lives.

Yuck. I can't stand milk, I have not been able to stomach it since I was 6 or 7, and I have no intention of drinking it. As for cheese...yeah, it tastes great, but I have found few other things that clog up my eliminative system as badly as a large amount of cheese does, so I eat very little cheese now.

This will sound like heresy to many of you. Fine. ;-) I will not be surprised by such a reaction, because people are creatures of convention and habit. They defend whatever they take for granted, and whatever they have been told.

Little Hawk, I agree with you about milk. It is intended for babies. American milk is problematic for all because it is pasteurized and that removes the enzymes you need to digest it. I get a sinus headache and infections from milk, ice cream, etc. The cultured dairy products are another matter, because there are enzymes reintroduced during the culture process that help with digestion.

Right now my milk products (yogurt, cottage cheese) are frozen. My eggs are frozen. My fridge isn't working correctly. Anyone need some quick-thaw raw eggs for anything?

Hi MOM. I've spent my morning chopping apples and now have the first of 8 apple cakes in the oven.

But the thing is....I LOVE cow's milk, whether it is good for me or not.

And has anybody figured out yet why non-fat cream should still be considered cream?

Because marketing hath made it so.

And yes, I drink cow's milk. 'Course, out here you have to get a bucket and rope the cow, tie 'er down, and then milk 'er, but it's a sight better than tryin' ta milk 'er on a dead run.

I am also very glad to not be running a fever today, and to see sunshine after three days of heavy rain and wind. And....

In about an hour the last of the cakes goes into the oven and I can finish cleaning up the mess from a full day of baking.

Favorite comfort food. Pinto beans, cornbread, cole slaw, and a tall glass of milk.

Pure Milk by The Mountain Goats

the moon's full, and the sky is bright,
and so you and me are gonna get drunk tonight.
we're gonna steal some tractors and head on into town,
find the main strip and start mowing them down.

don't come to the window till you're sure it's me.
don't ignore the obvious. take a deep breath.
put your hand on the god damn radio.
put your hand on the god damn radio.

fields are full of spirits, but no one cares at all.
a light above you flickers when you hear me call.
and I'm shaking when I see you there cause I don't know what it means.
but the ground is looking dry tonight and bursting near the seams.

so don't come to the window till you're sure it's me.
don't ignore the obvious. take a deep breath.
put your hand on the god damn radio.
put your hand on the god damn radio, yeah.

Court ruling: Pringles are potato chips (sort of)

A British court ruled a few months ago that Pringles have enough potato in them to qualify as crisps (translation: potato chips) and, therefore, are subject to a Value Added Tax of 15%. Procter & Gamble, the maker of Pringles, argued against the tax. Pringles, it says, are not crisps. Because their shape and packaging are "not found in nature."   Tough, said the court. Pringles are 42% potato. That's enough to qualify them as crisps. Under the law, crisps get taxed.

Pringles are 42% potato? OK, but what else do they contain? Here's the ingredient list: DRIED POTATOES, VEGETABLE OIL, RICE FLOUR, WHEAT . (You will be relieved to note: No artificial ingredients. No preservatives.)

Why do potatoes leave you with a greater sense of being full, over rice or pasta? Could thisprovide a ' meat and potatoes" answer?

Eur J Nutr. 2007 Jun;46(4):196-203. Epub 2007 May 11.
Food intake and plasma ghrelin response during potato-, rice- and pasta-rich test meals.

OBJECTIVE: Complex carbohydrates such as potato, rice and pasta are frequently consumed accompaniments of meat meals and have different effects on satiety, food intake, glucose, and insulin concentrations. The orexigenic gastric hormone ghrelin contributes to feeding regulation and as yet it is unknown whether there is any differential ghrelin response to these starchy food items corresponding to their effects on food intake. METHODS: In 11 subjects the effect of satiating amounts of potatoes, rice or pasta consumed together with 150 g pork steak was examined on hunger/satiety ratings, food intake, plasma insulin, glucose and ghrelin concentrations. RESULTS: All meals led to comparable quantities of food intake while energy intake was significantly lower after potatoes. Satiety/hunger ratings were significantly different from basal for the entire 4 h period after rice and pasta meals, while they had returned to basal during the 4th hour after potatoes. After rice and pasta insulin rose significantly for 4 h. Ghrelin decreased during the 2nd and 3rd hour. In contrast potatoes stimulated insulin for the initial 2 h only while ghrelin rose significantly by 120 pg/ml over the 4 h period. A significant correlation was observed between ghrelin and hunger ratings while subsequent second meal food and energy intake did not differ irrespective of the preceding ghrelin concentration. CONCLUSION: Compared to rice and pasta satiating amounts of potatoes coingested with meat result in lower energy intake and postprandial insulin concentrations, which is not counterbalanced during subsequent food intake despite higher ghrelin concentrations. The present data support the concept that ghrelin can affect hunger sensations but not necessarily food and energy intake.

Come on, Ed. I know that you are secretly trying to overtake Amos and Rapaire in the posting totals on this thread. It's obvious what you are up to. Bear in mind that you will have to basically give up the rest of your life for the next 6 months to a year in order to achieve this dubious objective, and there's still no guarantee! You know why? Because Amos and/or Rapaire may realize what you're up to, panic, and themselves start posting here hundreds of times a day to prevent you from ever catching up to them. You ALL may end up in the NYCFTTS, being treated for carpal tunnel syndrom and acute imbecility before it's over.

While Ed was playing on the computer I was out mulching leaves and mowing the entire yard (1/2 acre--takes a while). I hope this is the last time this year. I even edged the entire thing.

MOM, I'm going to set up the bread machine so we'll have hot bread for dinner. I'm not sure if there will be a table to eat it on, but we'll make do with the counter or something like that. I haven't figured out where a couple of the pieces of furniture are going, mostly the tables. You've eaten standing over the sink before, so I know you won't suffer.
