It is in other dimensions, Amos. You just see a tiny part of it.

Your friend,
R
(who died in surgery and now exists in many dimensions including this one)

How'd ya make out Rap?

A... I had not addressed the Fitzgerald contraction proposition. Again, initially, it's seems empirically incorrect. The bus gets taller, wider and longer as it's coming to pick me up.

My view of the bus, if I miss it, gets shorter, more narrow and less wide while I am waving and swearing.

Again, I prefer comedy.

Comedy... hmmm... once upon a time... while heading for a hunt, my cousin, the aerospace engineer and I were discussing tau sheer in the bonding of carbon composite skins for stealth aircraft and it became fairly lengthy and deeply involved. My buddy, in the back seat of the vehicle finally piped up, "Hey! I am deaf in my right ear and all this shit is going in my left ear and getting stuck in my head so knock it off eh?" Oh how we laughed.

Oh. sorry.

Yes, F=MA for most values of F :D but the question is why there is M, the resistance to acceleration in individual particles.

In people, it is sui-generis.

Why does my ass have mass?

Because it does. To suggest that my ass has inertia due to a force which surrounds it and impedes me from getting off the LazyBoy to get another beer during the football game is empirically inane to me.

However, if this theory is proven correct, it may have practical applications like having the beer float to me unimpeded by the molasses so that I don't have to get up and get a beer and miss Brady connect with The Gronk fer a TD.

Is there a particular research foundation I should donate to in order to further such ground breaking studies?

Go to, Amos. I do not for a moment believe that you are nearly as offended as you pretend to be by my funny remarks, my good sir, for you are no ignorant poltroon who takes offense over mere trifles! You are as Mercutio, putting on a dramatic display of feigned outrage for the benefit of those worthies standing about you in the street whilst snickering down your sleeve at the common follies of impressionable men. You are as Cyrano, spouting marvelous verse beneath the fair lady's balcony, whilst concealed in the bushes.

In short, sir, I think you secretly thirst for my comments and can hardly wait for the next pearl of wisdom to drop from my lips...

(Heh! Heh!)

AND he's got a nose like Cyrano...or Pinnochio.

It went well enough. I'm in a cast until the 27th (top billing in the cast, too!) and they didn't need as large a hole as they feared. Of course, I only do this for the dope....

Hawkster, ya know I loves ya, but I don't need anyone telling me how unreal they think I am. I have plenty of that kind of help at home, see? Your going on about how my aspersions of fictivity on your imaginary pals is equivalent to the ultimate nebulosity of my own existence is both meretricious, jejune and disingenuous, as well as just being plain untrue.

Cast of thousands? Thousands of what, I hesitate to ask? I thought this was a one-man show. Many parts, but a one-man show.

There is only The One--irremediable, and unRapaireable
Who from the heaven's brow did spring, full-armed
And with a look that mortals find unbearablest of looks
Did stride into the world to Speake of Booques.
Leaving his mortal peers all full-alarmed.

But when his arms did meet their fate at last
Through helpful gestures made in aimless aid,
His peers did him impose a giant Caste
Of finest perlite plaster grains all made.

These grains each one, like pages were but small
But like a mighty BOoke when gathered all,
By tens and scores and thousands made the charm
That held him fast, and Rapaired good his Arme.

Please consider my grammatical error withdrawn in favor of "...is meretricious, jejune and disingenuous, as well as just being plain untrue."

And let me be the first to nominate the BooqueManne for the Annual MOAB Award For Insufferable Pedantry (AMAFIP) as well (a sure winner) for the Argo Award.

Argo? What's Argo?

"Argo Fuck yourself".

Raparee:

Of all men the master of the very fanciest, most skiddle-coated, addle-pated, double-tongued, triple-dipped and sugar-dusted untruths heard in the halls of Mankind, you should know full well that a plain untruth is a dark, dull, and colorless thing compared to a real bang 'em up, rare back and let fly, super-hummer-dinger banger sort of untruth. You've had the qualifying experience all the way there and back. Why, even your disingenuous question is a classic example of the art, in its quieter style.

Before someone raises their hand and shouts "who's there?" I want to point out that my lovely, talented, and brilliant daughter, Moonglow (in her rare Mudcat appearances) is now OFFICIALLY a college graduate! She accepted the lambskin this evening in a ceremony with +/- 700 of her closest campus friends. We drove back to town and went out for dinner in downtown Fort Worth. When she was a wee babe (18 mos) we moved here and at that time, downtown rolled up the sidewalks at 5pm. Now it's a vibrant and crowded scene. Good place to go for a family celebration of this sort.

Back to the Knock Knock game.

The notion of accepting the lambskin dates back centuries and has two meanings. One, used here by our estimable and deservedly proud mother Stilly, is to willingly receive a diploma, of the kind that was once printed on lambskin before parchment was used, before the days of 8 1/2/x11 copier paper.

The other has no place in decent conversation, and refers to a method of birth control.

And Moonglow, congratulations on your success!! All of MOAB toasts your diligence and perseverance!!

MOM!! Did you know that from 1550, the earliest part of the Baroque era, to the Galante era which bridged into the CLassical period in the last third of the 18th century, there were over EIGHT HUNDRED AND EIGHTY known Baroque composes? Didja?? You want a list of them all? All 880 of them breathed and sighed, peed and farted and learned music with ferocious attention. All of them yearned, dreamed, slept, waned and died. And how many of their names do you know? Maybe six? Eight? Huh? I have a list.

Just think, less than one per cent of the composers of this remarkable school.

What an evening, Mom!! We drove up the road to the Faculty Club and sat in on the 90th Birthday party for our beloved Harold, the physicist who became the vice-chancellor of the University here. We got to talk physics withDmitri Barsov, the sweet-tempered Russian who chairs the physics department, and meet a whole mess of very Distinguished Souls. And drink champagne and good red wine, and have a jolly time with their families as well. What a hoot. I am glad to be home again.

The only thing that could possibly make me stop sympathizing with the Gauls when they are fighting the invading Romans is that idiotic comic, Asterix.

It gives the Gauls a magic potion which makes them unbeatable. That really pisses me off. I hate characters who are unbeatable, as it defeats the entire purpose of even having a story in the first place.

And it portrays the Romans as bumbling incompetents, fools, and poor fighters! Unbelievable! The Romans were anything BUT incompetent, they were the deadliest military force of their time, superbly organized and led, very smart, and usually inflicted at least 10 or even 100 times the losses they suffered on "barbarian" armies that they fought, such as the Gauls.

The Gauls were equally courageous and determined, but the Romans had mastered the art of war to an extent that doomed the Gauls in almost every battle.

The comic Asterix is an embarrassing farce, an insult to history, and an insult to Romans and Gauls alike...but specially to Romans. It makes me sick. I've never been able to suffer through reading a whole episode of it, it's so bad. I grind my teeth when I read Asterix. I want to see Asterix and the fat moron who accompanies him everywhere ground up in a sausage machine and fed to Roman wardogs.

I might add that the art in Asterix is quite good...but everything else about it absolutely sucks to the outer limits of suckability.

Die, Asterix! Die!!!!!!!!

I was weaned on TinTin and Milou and Asterix when I was barely in my teens, in the original hard covers rich with expletives like "Tonerre de Brest!" and "Mille sabords"!!

You will appreciate M. Hawk that the Asterix comics were the absolute camp counterculture of their day, when the French revered classic Roman ideas and the idea of a Gaulish hero was blasphemy.
