A D10! Wow! Only ever seen one once. Man, what a beast!

The first D10 ever to get stuck... Cat flew in a team, repleat with heavy quip, to get it out, no charge. Their rep was at stake. (Sounds like an engineering legend to me but that's what I heard. Hell, I could easy get one stuck in lots a places.)

Read "Breakup" by Dana Stabenow. Believe me, you'll laugh your ass off and after you have it re-attached you do it again. By the end of the book, where Kate throws the guy off the cat by his...never mind. Read it.

It's hot out there, MOM. Yes, I know this is the day I was looking forward to back in February when it was cold outside, but I didn't want it to be quite this muggy.

Texas. When I think of Texas I think of the Alamo, "wetbacks", John Kennedy's unfortunate end, dust, desert, chiggers, Lyndon Johnson, guns, cowboys, Dallas, and George Bush.

Ugh!

However, I also think of Austin and Willy Nelson. Great music there.

Here's a link to the Amazon website for the book. You can "look inside". Suffice to say that it contains a nifty murder mystery, a falling jet engine, bear attacks, a shootout in the roadhouse parking lot, an attempted shooting at the airstrip by a Wronged Wife, and it's all funnier than a rubber crutch.

The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a pivotal event in the Texas Revolution. Following a 13-day siege, Mexican troops under President General Antonio López de Santa Anna launched an assault on the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas, USA). All of the Texian defenders were killed. Santa Anna's perceived cruelty during the battle inspired many Texians—both Texas settlers and adventurers from the United States—to join the Texian Army. Buoyed by a desire for revenge, the Texians defeated the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto, on April 21, 1836, ending the revolution.

You COULD think of the Ammon Carter Museum, the Brazos River, the Battle of San Jacinto, the XIT Ranch, Sam Houston, Mollie Ivins, Bill Pickett, Quanah Parker, Carol Burnett, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Buddy Holly, Tex Ritter, ZZ Top, the Houston Space Flight Center, Fort Hood, the Luke Short/Jim Courtwright gunfight, and of course the Snively Expedition.

There's more to Texas than gunfights, cattle, the Dallas Cowboys, mesquite, dust, chaparral, ocotilla, Republicans, capital punishment, and did I mention dust?

Besides, SRS lives there.

Carol Burnett? Texan? I love Texas! Carol Burnett is one of the sexiest women to have ever lived. SO smart and funny and talented and and and... an idol of mine. And, of course, a teenage crush... and it's still there. I goes fer a lass with brains AND looks BIG TIME and that there lass is A-one!

Hmm. Amusing! They sound like a bunch of disorganized pirates and freebooters rather than anything that could have been dignified with the term "military expedition". Mexico may well have been better off without them....though not without Texas itself, which was a valuable piece of territory.

I don't think I've actually ever seen ocotillo in Texas. It's a Sonoran Desert plant, Texas is Chihuahua Desert (and prairie that is hot-as-hell).

There have been several Keystone Kops kinds of forays across the border over the years, not just from Texas. There was one from Arizona that went badly (I'd have to look it up, I think it was pre-Gadsden, 1853.)

It's only forecast to be 98 today! I do love it when cold fronts pass through.

That's the kind of weather where Chongo sits morosely in his walk-up office/apartment, trying to keep cool with an electric fan and a cold drink. His air conditioner hasn't worked in years, despite being threatened with summary execution by .45 cal if it doesn't shape up. He sweats and glowers. His apartment gets hot as hell on sunny days, because it's on the 3rd floor and the roof is not well insulated in the least. Eventually he can't take it any more and he heads down to street level and goes off to Murphy's Bar for a few cold ones.

Go "commando", man. Nothing required but a loincloth, sandals, and a knife. Then write a book about it after you're done.

I started a cleanup of my office/apartment 8 years ago, figgerin' I'd tackle it a bit at a time so as not to wear myself out. Operation Enduring Liberation, I called it. It ain't done yet. Matter of fact, I think it's provin' to be about as winnable a proposition as the USA presence in Afghanistan!

I am plannin' to make a strategic disengagement and a complete cessation of all further cleanin' attempts in 2014, declare "victory", and hope no one notices that the place looks a hell of a lot worse than it did when I started the old "cleanup" campaign.

At least I was able to get this one message out before the bos'n uses the cat on me for "bein' a landlubber". This shows how much I care about Mom! Well, they're coming now to stretch me over the cannon.

Oh, stop yer weenin! It was over 8 hours from fallin off the page. I keep an eye out (when I can). All I had to post about was all the damn tomatoes... wanna a tomatoe? Picked about five pounds of Early Girl and Cherry 100 today... and some sugar snap peas. Yes, I know my paltry garden is "slight" but, as a novice and as someone who leads a life as exciting as a libraian working three shifts a day, why would i bitch and moan about tomatoes while this thread still had more than an 8 hour shift on the page?

There. Boring enough? Maybe just "freeresh" next time?

Here... take a f***in tamata eh?

Fry up the bacon and drop bread into the toaster! Gnu, it's time for the BLTs! My tomatoes were finished several weeks ago.

Amos in a loincloth - hmmmm. I think covering the niceties is probably his best bet if he wants to sustain forward momentum in his travels.

Women have a simply vast amount of niceties. I have known this instinctively since I was old enough to walk, and it's one among several reasons that I hold women in such high esteem.

You, YOU of all people, are badmouthing librarians? gnu, you have been warned! This is your first offense and will get you only a tongue lashing. Now stick out your tongue and I'll nail it to this stump so I can lash it.

Tongue lashing? That was a punishment reserved for only the most egregious and anti-social wretches in ancient Ireland. Many of Shane's forbears, the notorious McBrides of Dangle, suffered public tongue lashings, for example. Others suffered execution. They eventually fled Ireland after having enraged almost everyone and sought refuge and a new start in North America. The seed was thus planted on our shores that has since flowered in none other than Shane McBride and his brother Don who reside in Blind River, Ontario. It is they who must carry the McBride legacy on to great new heights in the 21st Century.

You take offense, Rap, at me saying librarians are boring in light hearted banter and certainly in jest? Why, all and sundry know what goes on in libraries after the doors are barred and the shades drawn. Decorum and shushes cease and bebauchery and mayhem begin. When confronted with choosing between being at "happy after hours" at a library or a morgue, I would always choose the library.

I am nestled in the bosky dells along the banks of the placid summer Penobscot Bay, watching the sun color the water gold and listening to gulls and tree winds. Ity is most benign. I have been revisiting old haunts in the Boothbay Habah region which has had an odd effect on my mind, confusing the present differences with the ancient similarities that never change on the granite coast. Delightful reveries. Beasutiful summer weather.

Bosque is forest in Spanish. Wonder if that is a corruption in Maine-ese?

Library reorganization without resolving some former job and pay issues is a bitter pill for a lot of people, me included. Instead of paying a fair salary by writing the former job classification to actually fit the work some of us were doing, management thinks they can hit a reset button and wherever you end up is what you're paid for, and the adjusted salary they should have been paying you is gone. Forgotten. Pisses me off.

Grovel, wretch, grovel.

You don't have any IDEA what goes on in libraries all the time. Did you know, that according to a survey taken by very respected librarian, more librarians have had sexual encounters in elevators than any other segment of the US population? 'Tis true. Some speculate that this is the case because librarians can't afford a hotel room during conferences. Others say...well, us your imagination.

But librarians know how to keep their secrets and only talk about Certain Subjects with the Elect, not the Great Unwashed Masses.
