A dab of Vick's Vapo-Rub under the nose or smoking a bad cigar helps with odors such as Shame's. Those are old tricks of cops and firefighters who have to deal with long-dead and decaying bodies, such as Shame has.

He is, after all, odoriferous sufficient to force a necrophile to reverse peristalsis.

Or as in Shane's case...

"B.O.? You call that B.O.? THIS is B.O.!!!" (exposing both his armpits, while sporting an evil grin) He has attempted to repel arresting officers by using this method, but it just made them quite angry.

LOL! Yepper. Reminds me of Crocodile Dundee pulling out his giant croc-sticker.

"Weather? That's not weather. Now, THIS is weather!!" What they call weather up in Pocatello is just mellerdrammer. 'Course, they don't have to pay a Sunshine Tax, either...

You know, don't you Amos, that they have "weather" up there in the Rocky Mountains and environs. Not like your sunny-all-of-the-time Southern California. Pack a jacket and bring a rain hat (umbrellas are for sissies).

SO you don't mind a LITTLE Californication, for money, as long as it doesn't lead to a permanent relationship? Hmmph. I know your type.

We plan to meet other clan members in SLC and drive up to Yellowstone and I am rooting for the route that goes through Pocatello.

Good Heavens! Amos is coming to the Yellowstone Area in the Fall! And all of his kith and kin with him! Whole busloads, truckloads, railway cars full of Amos' relatives, all heading for the Yellowstone Area. I've alerted the state police of Utah, Oregon, Nevada, Washington, Montana and Wyoming as well as the RCMP and the Idaho State Police. NO MORE CALIFORNICATING OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST (and environs)!!!!!!!!! But you ARE most welcome to visit and spend lots and lots of money.

Ah! Eiseley emerges from the stacks to say hello! Will you be going to San Diego or is Amos travelling up there? I hope your tune and lyrics become an earworm for all of those children to keep them reading all summer!

MOM is into graphic novels, she found a set of Anime Trigun books and is reading them back to front voraciously (that's because she's starting on the US front that is the Japanese back and reading in that direction. They make more sense the other way, but she thinks this is a William Burroughs approach to the stories).

Good morning, MOM! I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day. The sun is shining here, and the lilacs are at their peak.

This week I will be visiting about five thousand elementary students in their individual classrooms and singing them a song to inspire them to read during the summer. It is a little ditty I worked up using the tune of one of Paganini's guitar impromptus. Quite lovely and catchy, the tune is, so I hope it works to get the kids to read.

I look forward to seeing you soon, Amos!

Eiseley

This is a nice song. We used it at our wedding.

I'll have to see if there's a McGonagall poem that deals with the issue of plagiarism. If I can find one, I'll post it here. If not, I'll post something else. Presently. Please don't get too impatient while you're waiting for me to do so. If you find yourself drumming your fingers irritably and chewing on your fingernails, try some deep breathing to center yourselves, and remember that "all things come to those who wait". (A blatant misconception! But still, it's a popular proverb.)

Plagiars warts appear on the fingers of those who play with other peoples' material without bothering to learn their names first. A rare aberration, and a little known disease.

Plantar warts (or plantar anything) means it is on the bottom of your foot. I suspect a plagiars wart would be a bit higher up.

By the bye, that Julia Moore poem is excellent. I have met the shade of Julia Moore in the afterlife. She is indeed the Sweet Singer of America, resting now joyfully in the bosom of the Lord, and all who read her inspired words are lifted up thereby even, yea, to the Angelic realms. So sayeth The Unconquerable Muse!

You fool, I AM the Living Spirit OF William Topaz McGonagall! That is why I am the Unconquerable Muse. I was unconquerable in life, when the World knew me as McGonagall, and I am unconquerable in death.

My rhymes are like an eternal Great Code of western civilization. They are all one really needs to know about art. I intend to post one of them here every now and then when I see you people straying from the mark and falling into sin. My words will bring you back into the fold as faithfull sheep and true servants of Christ...or they will caste you out into uttermost perdition! The choice is up to you. Listen and be saved! Or scoff...and meet your dreadful doom.

Red Ribbon
by Julia A Moore

The Red Ribbon is all the go;
It's the temperance sign, you know;
It is seen wherever you go,
On men who dare do right.

CHORUS:

Dare to do right,
Dare to do right,
Let your motto ever be
Dare to do right.

It's no disgrace to wear that badge
Of red ribbon, dear youthful lad,
Your mother's heart it will make glad
To see you dare do right.

Young friend, don't fail to sign the pledge,
And don the badge of ribbon red,
And leave some ways you have led,
Always dare do right.

Friends that love you is glad to see
That you can let vile strong drink be;
Their hearts rejoice in highest glee
To see you dare do right.

Three cheers for all red ribbon men,
And also those that is their friend;
God will be with you to the end,
He's ever on the right.

Heed ye the dire evils of strong drink, and the dreadful things that intemperance hath wrought? If so, list to the following verses, and sin no more!!! For I am the unconquerable muse, and these are my verses:

The Demon Drink

Oh, thou demon Drink, thou fell destroyer;
Thou curse of society, and its greatest annoyer.
What hast thou done to society, let me think?
I answer thou hast caused the most of ills, thou demon Drink.

Thou causeth the mother to neglect her child,
Also the father to act as he were wild,
So that he neglects his loving wife and family dear,
By spending his earnings foolishly on whisky, rum and beer.

And after spending his earnings foolishly he beats his wife-
The man that promised to protect her during life-
And so the man would if there was no drink in society,
For seldom a man beats his wife in a state of sobriety.

And if he does, perhaps he finds his wife fou',
Then that causes, no doubt, a great hullaballo;
When he finds his wife drunk he begins to frown,
And in a fury of passion he knocks her down.

And in that knock down she fractures her head,
And perhaps the poor wife she is killed dead,
Whereas, if there was no strong drink to be got,
To be killed wouldn't have been the poor wife's lot.

Then the unfortunate husband is arrested and cast into jail,
And sadly his fate he does bewail;
And he curses the hour that ever was born,
And paces his cell up and down very forlorn.

And when the day of his trial draws near,
No doubt for the murdering of his wife he drops a tear,
And he exclaims, "Oh, thou demon Drink, through thee I must die,"
And on the scaffold he warns the people from drink to fly,

Because whenever a father or a mother takes to drink,
Step by step on in crime they do sink,
Until their children loses all affection for them,
And in justice we cannot their children condemn.

The man that gets drunk is little else than a fool,
And is in the habit, no doubt, of advocating for Home Rule;
But the best Home Rule for him, as far as I can understand,
Is the abolition of strong drink from the land.

And the men that get drunk in general wants Home Rule;
But such men, I rather think, should keep their heads cool,
And try and learn more sense, I most earnestly do pray,
And help to get strong drink abolished without delay.

If drink was abolished how many peaceful homes would there be,
Just, for instance in the beautiful town of Dundee;
then this world would be heaven, whereas it's a hell,
An the people would have more peace in it to dwell

Alas! strong drink makes men and women fanatics,
And helps to fill our prisons and lunatics;
And if there was no strong drink such cases wouldn't be,
Which would be a very glad sight for all Christians to see.

O admit, a man may be a very good man,
But in my opinion he cannot be a true Christian
As long as he partakes of strong drink,
The more that he may differently think.

But no matter what he thinks, I say nay,
For by taking it he helps to lead his brother astray,
Whereas, if he didn't drink, he would help to reform society,
And we would soon do away with all inebriety.

Then, for the sake of society and the Church of God,
Let each one try to abolish it at home and abroad;
Then poverty and crime would decrease and be at a stand,
And Christ's Kingdom would soon be established throughout the land.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, pause and think,
And try to abolish the foul fiend, Drink.
Let such doctrine be taught in church and school,
That the abolition of strong drink is the only Home Rule.

Some pictures are not for the young.

If you had seen this picture it would have destroyed your morals, your ethics, your morels, turned your brain smooth, and destroyed any joy in life you may have experienced or will experience in the future. It would have left you an empty husk, bereft of everything, a wanderer in the worst slums of the world.

It can't do that to me, for I am world-wise and world-weary.

Mom's Song To Her Children

Sleep, my children, peace attend thee,
All through the night;
Kegs of beer God will send me,
All through the night;
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,
Beer and ale your Mom intaking,
Mother neat her whiskey taking,
All through the night.

Booze is here, I'll not be lonely
All through the night
'Tis not I who guards thee only
All through the night.
Night's dark shades will soon be over,
And my hangover still shall hover.
Someone stole my watch and shoeses,
All through the night.

BEHIND THOSE SWINGING DOORS

T'was Saturday night in an old mining town
Jake's bar room was merry and gay
While far from the laughter a family did wait
For Mom to come home with her pay
"What's keeping dear Mother, why doesn't she come?"
Stilly exclaimed through her tears
And Amos replied, "I'm sadly afraid
Our Mother has stopped for some beers"

Oh…Oh!
The doors swing in, the doors swing out
Where some pass in, and others pass out
Our Mother, I fear, has her nose in the beer
Behind those swinging door-or-ors,
(Hic)
Behind those swinging doors.

"Oh I shall go fetch her" the daughter declared
"She shan't bring disgrace to our name"
Then straight-way she ran to the corner saloon
To save her poor Mother from shame
"Dear Mother, Dear Mother come home with me now
The clock in the steeple strikes two" (Ding, Ding, Ding)
"Little Eiseley is waiting, the rent must be paid
Don't spend all your money for brew"

Oh…Oh!
The doors swing in, the doors swing out
Where some pass in, and others pass out
Through the smoke and the haze
There stood Mom in a daze
Behind those swinging door-or-ors,
(Hic)
Behind those swinging doors.

Each Saturday night at the corner saloon
The miners come in with their gold
And Mother blows in all her wages on sin
And Stilly blows home in the cold
"Dear Siblings", she wailed, "My mission I've failed,
Our Mother will ne'er mend her ways"
And the siblings exclaimed "We'll suffer the shame,
It's always the family who pays"

Oh…Oh!
The doors swing in, the doors swing out
Where some pass in, and others pass out
This story is told of a Mom and her gold
Behind those swinging door-or-ors,
(Hic – Burp)
Behind those swinging doors.

The Drunken Driver
By Ricky Skaggs

Now listen here, drunken driver
While here on earth you dwell
You never know when the time will come
When you'll have to say farewell

I saw an accident one day
Would charm the hearts of man
And teach him never to drink a drop
With a steerin' wheel in his hand

This awful accident occured
On the twentieth day of May
And caused two loving children
To sleep beneath the clay

These two dear kids walked side by side
Out on a state highway
Their lovin' mother, she had died
And their father had run away

They were talking of their loving parents
How sad their hearts did feel
When around the curve came a speedin' car
With a drunk man at the wheel

The driver saw these two dear kids
And hooted a drunkard sound
"Get out of the road, you little fools"
And the car it brought them down

The driver staggered from his car
To see what he had done
His heart sank within him
When he saw his dyin' son

He then picked up his little one
And carried him to his car
Then leanin' on the runnin' board
He prayed a drunkard's prayer

Sayin', "Please, oh Lord, forgive me
For this awful crime I've done"
His attention then was called away
To the words of his dyin' son

Sayin' "Take us to our mother, Dad
She sleeps beneath the ground
It was you and her we was talkin' about
When the car had knocked us down"

"And please, dear Dad, don't drink no more
While drivin' on your way
But meet us with our mother, Dad
In heaven some sweet day"

Ya know, Rapp, if you spend ALL your time in the gutter, the only time you'll ever see Mom is when she comes down there looking for you!! Never thought of that angle, I suppose.

A plaintive, tear-soaked ballad on the lines of "Father, dear Father, come home with me now--the clock in the steeple strikes one!" could be composed on this theme. A careworn and neglected Mom fearfully traipses from rundown bar to rundown bar, looking in every flea-bitten booze-rotted corner for her wayward son. Pathos!! Music!! Harmony!! ANd MORE pathos!! Who could ask for anythning more entertaining?!

The City of San Diego not only com[pleted a long project of undergrounding all the utility lines in our neighborhood, on time and on budget, but they also gave us a free tree. So we now have a sturdy young Jacaranda tree in the verge in front of our house, which in due course will explode with delicate purple flowers in all directions.

I have to give them credit--their project management and customer communication were impeccable. Very pleased with the whole thing, even though it tool a long time. Now our local skyline is free of ugly wires.

MOM supervised some work here at my friend's house today, and when the storage shed was cleaned up, everything on shelves and lots of floor space exposed, she announced that on the next visit she'll use that as her bedroom, there's a sleeping bag and a cot so she's set. I think this is partly because she can come and go (this is off the garage, not attached to the house - it's where the golf cart would go, if one owned a golf cart) without waking everyone. I don't know where she would want to go in the desert at night.

She said that flat version of her can be placed on the flat roof of the Legion Hovel so the Google Earth folks see her waving at everyone else on the planet if they zoom in on her part of Mudcat town.
