Ya see, if I read something and it annoys me I'll just skip it. If it annoys me enough I might possibly post some little snippet of mild criticism that may imply that the poster is the product of defective genetics and is wanting in intellectual, moral, and hygienic areas as well as the sort who eat their own boogers. But mostly I just ignore them.

Bring on the U-tubes, GfS. Then I can make some decisions about your music.

...and Pee Ess: I've just completed some 'paperwork' and am a step clearer to to being free to posting some of my music on iTunes, and the like, and posting a 'You-Tuber'.....and you will see that you will be proud that your 'resident stranger' will also make 'Mudcat' the honored residence of such music. It takes people away! (especially if 'adjusted'..so I hear!)....

Wow, Little Hawk, you nailed it.
Before came on, I was thinking of something in response to what I was reading, and thought to myself, "Well I'm sure glad that political devotees, still think 'freedom of speech' fits into their political outlook, and their 'liberal(?) minds were still concerned about our basic rights...and exercising them wasn't such a violent affront to their 'sensibilities'"! ...then I came on, and read Little Hawk's post. I'm both flattered and humbled, that someone could explain it so clear........ahem(clears throat)...........in such limited space, I might add!

My thrust is that musicians...true musicians, ...are a truly fortunate critter, that has a gift..a unique gift...not just 'bestowed' on just everyone..To nurture that gift, requires massive focus, and gratitude...of which deserves keeping your filters clear, to reach into that place from where beautiful sounds, and groups of sounds originate.
In that place there is unity, harmony, expressions to and from the human soul to another, expressions of emotions, and the linking of emotions, and images..and timing.

I find that real musicians, should be free, of the clutter that confuses so many, and so much our known reality!....and not infuse their consciousness, with the contradictory fraudulent claims of manipulators, who use those means of destroying the virtues that constitute compassion. It is that gift, and connection to the best of human virtues, that enables music to express that empathy, to our fellow man.

But you can't do it, and bring peace, or express harmony...while the music has to work its way through bias, resentment and fear.

I've been called a racist, bigot, progressive, Tea Partier, troll, Fascist, right-winger, homophobic, a man and a woman, on here(and I've noted the difference of attitude of those addressing of both),..and all the while, while attacking phony political dogma, been posting fucking wonderful music the whole way........
...and to quote Frank Zappa...."and they thought it couldn't happen here....they were so sure...."

It's always been about the music...the right wing and left wing are on the same old turkey.....no matter what kind of dressing.

Go back to your peasant meanderings....
..it's better for the soul.

Regards,

GfS

Well, I hope so.

I don't recall the stuff about GfS posing as a female with child... (?)

Anyway, the distinguishing feature with Claymore and Martin Gibson was primarily their extreme political partisanship which was at diametrical odds with the vast majority of people on this forum. In short, they were very much on the political Right.

GfS is of a different stripe than that. GfS criticizes both the Republican and the Democratic parties with pretty much equal vehemence, seeing them both as working for the same corrupt entrenched interests (albeit while posing outwardly in an oppositional style toward one another and acting as if they were a viable opposite choice for the voters). GfS is not the classic rightwinger. GfS is an independently minded person who repudiates both of those 2 big parties which pose as "left" and "right" in the USA and says they're both phony baloney, and that the public is being manipulated by them in a perpetual "divide and conquer" scenario.

I agree with that. I think, sadly, that much the same thing is happening in Canadian politics (with as many as 4 parties!) and in the UK politics (with 3 parties). No matter who the public votes for those 3 countries, their wars of choice continue, the bankers and the military industrial complex rule the roost, hidden taxes go up, the currency inflates, civil rights are legislated away, and the public loses out.

Our political parties have all betrayed us, and they continue to betray us, because they've been bought by the highest bidders.

That's what GfS keeps saying, and I have to agree.

I'm not suggesting "Don't vote". After all, one must still consider who is the best local or regional or national candidate in one's own estimation...out of a usually not very good lot. But I'm saying that our "democracies" have been eviscerated from within by the power of Big Money, and there's no obvious solution to the problem...given the fact that those who have been corrupted are not likely to change the rules and uncorrupt themselves once they're in office!

Anyway, I'm basically on the Left, as you know...I always have been...and I do not see GfS as the classic Right winger at all. Hardly. GfS is an independently minded person who believes in neither the Right nor the Left as they are presently embodied in the major political parties in North America.

I understand that. I feel the same way about it. I'm very, very tired of having to pick the "lesser of 2 evils" at election time, and I don't call that a democracy. I call it an Oligarchy...sort of like the liberals and conservatives were in the old Communist Party in Russia before the Soviet Union fell. They were the 2 ends of a corrupt order. I don't believe in self-serving Oligarchies run by a privileged elite.

So I like GfS on 2 counts...basic personality on direct acquaintance...and a pretty good grasp of what the heck is going on with western party politics in the 21st Century.

I think if we all met in person...in real life...heck, we'd all like each other just fine.

It's interesting that GfS is now firmly being identified as male, when for several years he promulgated the notion he was a mother. I mean, the child-bearing kind. Your personal defense, LH, is certainly more persuasive than his own rhetorical style.

I think, LH, that we tend to prejudge because of past experiences. Martin Gibson comes to mind, as does Claymore. I don't see anything wrong with GfS; SRS might be right though, that his Biff Rose links would get better exposure above the salt. I rather enjoyed them.

Well, gnu, I know GfS directly (outside of Mudcat) and have never found him to have any ill intention to anyone. Have also found him to be friendly, really interesting to talk to, and genuinely very enthusiastic about music. People here are often reacting to GfS's banter when reading it as if they pictured him having a mean scowl or a nasty sneer on his face while he's typing it. He doesn't. His motives are being misjudged due to the fact that several people here have long since decided to make him a personal "enemy" of theirs (mainly due to political squabbles) and they therefore read everything he posts with their mind already made up on what kind of shithead they think he is...and they picture this very nasty person in their minds....a person who simply does not exist!

That gets pretty silly. I question it. It's an overreaction to a preconciption which does not jibe with the actual reality of who GfS is.

And that's why I question it.

I realize that for those who have their minds made up already, nothing I say will ever make any difference, they won't change their minds no matter what, and I figure thare's nothing I can do about that, right? But that's how it stands.

Good-natured banter is not personal attack.

If any of us "regulars" posted a link to a music video (or anything else whatsoever really) on the MOABS, no one here would see any reason to object to it...because they do not treat each other the way they do GfS (the "outsider").

Sounds like any small club anywhere to me. The familiar members get all kinds of slack...their banter is taken as banter...their links are not questioned. Visitors, specially some visitors, are regarded with suspicion. Their banter is taken as a personal attack of some kind on someone. Their links are scorned. Their character is questioned. Any attempt they make to defend their character is taken as further evidence of how rotten they are.

Sort of like coming up before the Inquisition...only with far less serious consequences, fortunately, because people here are powerless to act on their dislike toward other people.

*****

I found the Biff Rose links quite interesting. I can't see any objection to having them on this thread.

Peace on Mom's house. We stand here on the first stepping stone of a year of promise, hope, some repair to economies, perhaps a drachm of common sanity in the halls of power, and who knows what wonders yet to unfold?

Turn of your television, throw away the newspaper, shut down the computer, and find yourself in the world, connect by delicate, scintillating threads to all the good people in the world who know and admire you.

Amazing, it is 2012, and I am still writing "B.C." on my checks. Actually that's not true, I don't write checks. But I am still signing my credit card slips with the identity I had back in WW I. No-one seems to have noticed.

I remember 2011, though, as clear as though it were yesterday.

God bless us one and all.

I am fuckin near bald (hope that wasn't yer point). I don't give two shits from Tuesday about it. I do, however, give a shit about GfnS given grief to SRS when she was just tryin ta be helpful. I know I am rough around the edges, but *I* do have *some* manners and, yes, I know, at times I can be abrasive.

I don't think I'll stay awake till New Year's, in my time zone at least. Except that fireworks might bother the dogs, so I'll keep an ear out for that, I'd just head for bed. In 30 minutes it'll be 2012 in New York City. Close enough for me. :-)

I was a marksman some years ago. I once put two slugs thru a plywood target at 100m. One hole. Them Ruskies know how to build a shotgun. No, no scope... vent and bead.

Hehehee... Rap... I was waaay back on my 3wheeler. Beaver dam. Made it across about 100' with my knees on the seat. The old bikes could float. On the way back, about three hours later, the wind was strong. I drifted into the alders before getting to shore and the right rear wheel caught in. The bike lurched forward and I hit the shore in third gear. Arse over tea kettle. Bruised ribs. Cuts. Scrapes. BUT, far worse, my Baikal, still in the scabbard, was cracked at the pistol grip. I was nearly in tears. Got back to camp and taped my darlin up with duct tape. Took about 600 with the duct tape on her before I gave up huntin.

I know, music slips in, but the point is, if you bury a discussion about a performer you want people to notice in a thread with 43,000+ posts, it's never going to get noticed in here, forest-for-the-trees-style. If you're serious about discussing this performer, give him his own thread and people will notice that thread and respond to it. It's easy to understand, or don't you speak English as your first language, GfS? How does this smack of an axe to grind? It's a rare spurt of common sense in our silly thread.

Besides, we've discussed, yea, even posted, music and lyrics here. About 20,000 posts back we had a lovely discussion of dominant eighths and polyphonics in Carl Phillip Emmanuel Bach's Piece for Mechanical Clock, H. 635, No. 11. Amos posts songs, SRS posts links to songs, even I have posted some of my favorite songs. Who could forget the "New Year's Eve Carol"?

THey can get you ten meals for maybe $25, and in one case out of 500 it will save them from someone submitting a $25,000 claim, perhaps?

Makes sense to me. Not all big corporations can do the long-term math, though.

Okay. I don't understand this because a big corporation is involved. Well, maybe I do: they may have started to get it through their corporate heads that prevention is better than hospitalization -- and cheaper for them. But here's what's happened.

I picked up the mail today and there was what appeared to be junk mail from Humana, the company that manages our Medicare benefits and stuff like that. "Consumers Reports" gave Humana a straight-across-the-board "open circle" rating recently. Just so you know.

Anyway, since I went into the local hospital on December 14 and stayed overnight, Humana's "Well Dine" program is sending me ten (10) nutritious frozen meals to help prevent my re-hospitalization due to poor nutrition (like Pat would permit that!).

This is at no extra cost to me. On January 4 they're to be delivered.

Okay. If this is so important, why aren't all health insurance plans doing it? We also don't pay for immunizations, mammograms, colonoscopies, or other preventive measures. I also have a free membership in the "Silver Sneakers" program, which allows me to unlimited visits to two local fitness centers and a slew of others such places around the country.

Well, I'll take ten free meals. I ain't about to turn down food.

The CGFM (I get the last two letters mixed up sometimes) is the Commander-In-Chief and Grand Exhausted Ruler Plenipotentiary And Exemplary of the Idaho Legion. She is probably the most decorated veteran I've ever met: sometimes her entire front half will pitch her forward, just from the weight of the medals. Every time this happens she catches herself on the hands and does 100 pushups using only her fingertips for ground contact (well, her toes too). She was once attacked by an angry, mouth-frothing grizzly bear (she was petting one of the cubs) and the bear went into submission when she only looked at it. Afterwards the griz and the cubs followed the CGFM around like puppies and the CGFM would rub their tummies and tussle with them in play. It's said that she one defeated an entire battalion-sized unit of the Taliban with only a water pistol and a Girl Scout knife after parachuting in alone to rescue a bottle of SOCOM CIC's favorite Scotch; she successfully completed her mission by traveling 400 miles through enemy-held territory, eating nothing but ants and termites and drinking nothing except the dew from tree leaves.

Biff Rose was, and is a genius...and very under exposed! My brother's ex-girlfriend used to go with him, when he lived in Venice Beach, California, in the mid to late '60's. It seemed that at the time, hardly anyone knew of or about him, though he did 13 appearances on The Tonight Show, with Johnny Carson, and several stints with the Smothers Brothers. On his last show with Johnny, Biff gave Carson some shit about his clothes...that was his last appearance!

The food was good and the wine was in good supply. Everyone had a fine old time!! I would say it was successful in every respect!

Except I had to stay up late on a work night. But never mind. We had some great time jamming together after the gig and it was a pleasure to hear him show the world the genuine face of the working cowboy in stories and music.
