What a perfectly horrible suggestion! Aunt Penelope and Uncle Winston do get along rather badly much of the time, it's true, but to suggest that they have taken out enormous life insurance policies each on the other with the intention of doing away with...

It's just monstrous! You should be ashamed of concocting such a disgusting notion. The main reason they have taken out those enormous policies is to ensure that I will be well protected and not reduced to destitution while I pursue my vital academic career...should anything happen to one or both of them.

Not that anything will, of course.

But you can't be too careful!

Oh, piss off, Rapaire. ;-) I know Winston. I suspect that what he really said is that he wished his wife were dead. They seem to get along like oil and water, those two. The only things they really have in common are money and pedigree.

In fact, I think they both heartily wish the other was dead at this point...many people predicted that that would happen, and it turns out that they were right.

Winston recently insured Penelope's life for 80 million quid. Penelope retaliated by insuring Winston's life for 90 million quid. Together that makes them worth 170 million quid, plus inheritance! Impressive, innit? ;-) I think they should both take considerable care in future, possibly hire bodyguards, and only from the very best agencies...

Amos, there are very few individuals on this forum with the extraordinary lack of good grace to attempt repeatedly to "kill off" another person's favorite imaginary characters simply to amuse themselves. It's a low and contemptible tactic, in my opinion, and it does not speak well for you.

Remember, an imaginary character is a child of the imagination of the person who created it. It always belongs to that person just as a child belongs to the parent. Any fatal attack on the imaginary character is a vicarious attack of violence upon its creator. To publicly announce the death of the imaginary character, merely upon your own whim as if you were God in that character's world of being, is to willfully destroy an important psychic and emotional component of another person.

And you are surprised that I do not cooperate in your attempt to destroy a mental creation that has come out of my own being?

Fie, sir, fie! Your behaviour is despicable, callous, and arrogant. You show no consideration.

It is acceptable to verbally abuse another person's imaginary characters, to make fun of them, to level false accusations against them, etc....because it provides much opportunity for jokes and humour, but it is not acceptable to kill them off and simply terminate them for all time. You should know this.

It is, after all, an essential rule in all Mudcat story threads. You do NOT kill off the other person's created characters. Only their creator has the right to terminate their existence, and you know it.

Only Sir Arthur Conan Doyle could kill off Sherlock Holmes. No one else had that right, and you know it. Only Mark Twain could kill off Huck Finn (hypothetically). Only the Disney studios can kill off Mickey Mouse (should they choose to). Only I can kill off Chongo Chimp. That is the way it is, and that is the way it must be. He does not exist in your jurisdiction of imagination, Amos. You can react TO him, but you cannot take charge of his destiny.

Am I being serious in what I say here? Yes, I'm being 100% serious, but I expect you will react by just blowing me off here in a rather arrogant and lofty fashion which you imagine to be quite witty and clever. Probably some amusing quote from the psychiatric literature or Herr Doktor Liebenscheiss....whom you will note that I have never killed off! I find him amusing and entertaining, and he isn't mine to kill...nor would I wish to destroy another person's imaginary character. I simply don't have the right to. Neither do you.

Strange to come on and read poetry of death.
Death of an old year, death of an old dog.
I spent yesterday nursing my old dog into a new dog realm of meaty bones and soft dirt. I think, somewhere, someone said- if someone dies between Christmas and New Year the soul goes straight to heaven. If so 'Jade' my old dog is dancing with the gods or is it the dogs?

Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated, Rapaire, so do not distress yourself unnecessarily. Callahan's had vanished to a nuke before I could get there and I haven't gotten to Key West yet. L-City I might visit again (I remembered that I was there, years back, helping a guy named Bernardo de la Paz, nice old codger) but I'm afraid I'll find it pretty stuffy after the old days. I've heard that about Frostbite Falls too -- also that Camelot is now another (and worse) tourist trap, sorta like Bunratty Castle but really, really tacky. I mean, come on, who wants to go "Questing" if you have to put 25p into the horse every few minutes?

I am currently in several places, but I can't tell you where they are without knowing your security clearance level.

MOM and her trucker friend (mebbe not the one she took off with on I-64) headed for the Florida panhandle and cajoled BWL into crossing state lines with them by offering to load up the truck with his pot....errrr....pots and they are all busy setting up a booth on the street corner in Baton Rouge, even as I type, having formed a cajun band to draw in a crowd for the New Year's revelries and make BWL a rich man from his song writing and pot....errr....pots!

Yep, I done figgered it out. That Zydeco music is comin' up through the hole in that big oak stump down by the road what Gluon keeps jumpin in and out of, always trailin' these weird lookin' strings. Damn! I should jumped up onto that truck with her.

Wait a minute, Gluon was last observed humping Rapaire's leg. Either there is a cajun community in Idaho or Rapaire is with them, and too ashamed to say.

Keep in mind, Amos, that holes are by their very nature holy. Sing "Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy are our holes!" Have you noticed that holes often act holier-than-thou? Well, why not? They are holier than thou. You can't get much holier than the average hole. Furthermore, a hole makes up less than the sum of its parts, and that is simply incredible!

Stop Quarking and shed a happy tear, please. I posted this elsewhere, but I'll share it with you also. I was writing to Micca but I cut it out to use for a couple of posts:

This has been a week for happy children. My son has been taking guitar lessons for four years from a very good teacher here in Fort Worth. I've wanted him to have those lessons and through financial hard times we've cut other things to keep up the lessons (cable TV is highly over-rated anyway!) We chose Michael because he teaches music, theory, technique, all of those things you generally miss when you take lessons down at the local mass-music store and learn a few songs. Michael gave Dylan a loaner guitar to use (it is a flamenco guitar, one that at the time he said was worth about $1,500 but had "some issues.") Through his studio we had a guitar on order from a Spanish maker, but it never came in, and we've continued with this guitar over the years. Today I figured I'd better set the wheels in motion to get him a classical of his own, because come August he'll be heading to college, and I'd like him to have the classical as well as the electric. Michael responded "I've thought of that as Dylan's guitar for years. It's his."

I am so grateful! And Dylan, also, I think, was surprised, though he didn't show much. But what a tremendous gift. I was going to offer to pay the price of his lessons out for a year after he goes to college to pay for the guitar. This is such a great gift to both of us!
