Shouldn't that be "code postalE"? We certainly don't want to irritate the Academe Francaise!

(Nor the Legion d'Honneur...my cousin-in-law is a Chevalier du cet Legion).

I am stupid. No. Un, deux, trois, quatre, five, sis, sept, huit, neuf, ten.

Why did she leave? Oh, but of course! Already I have achieved a post of honor, and have been left to defend the fort. Viva la Republique!

Zee cabbage does not run away from zee corn-beef.

I am ze captain, and you are ze first mate. Promotions will follow quickly!

there is very little difference between men and women. But, VIVE LE DIFFERENCE!

Au revoir, pidgeon. Sweeting is such part sorrow

Hello guest Collette?

You'z new around here, or just look'in fer directions to somewhere? Have relations nearby?

Us folk in here don't 'stand much French, being that we don't much take to the other posts...well maybe they dont much take to us. Kind'a put us over here to talk amung'st ourselves.

Your French talk sure smells purty, though. Like to stay fer awhile?

Such disdain thou hast for me!
Could I not spell Raparree?
Or, if you were making free,
Learn to spell it Rahperree?
And if a Francophile you'd be
I could master Rah-PaRIS!!
But no! You choose to slothful be!
And blame it, what is worse, on me!
Such a blatant villany
Deserves just ole Rapayre to be,
And not the gallant Raparee.
Or so it seems, at least, to me.

It's still the same old story--man meets penguin, penguin falls in love, man proves untrue, penguin finds some one else--but never forgets her true companion at heart.

MOM, you'll be hearing the pitter patter of roofers working across the street today. Don't let it bother you; if you want to sit outside on this beautiful day go hang out in the back yard on the patio. It's probably time to paint the front porch and put up the storm windows and some of those bug screens.

Ron Burgundy: Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.
Veronica Corningstone: No, there's no way that's correct.
Ron Burgundy: I'm sorry, I was trying to impress you. I don't know what it means. I'll be honest, I don't think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.
Veronica Corningstone: Doesn't it mean Saint Diego?
Ron Burgundy: No. No.
Veronica Corningstone: No, that's - that's what it means. Really.
Ron Burgundy: Agree to disagree

Easy to remember and nearly impossible to mispronounce.

San Diego (pronounced /ˌsæn diˈeɪgoʊ/), named after Saint Didacus (Spanish: Diego de Alcalá), is the second-largest city in California and the ninth largest city in the United States, located along the Pacific Ocean on the west coast of the United States. The US Census Bureau estimates the city's population at 1,279,329 as of 2008.[1] This coastal city is also the county seat of San Diego County[2] as well as the economic center of the San Diego–Carlsbad–San Marcos metropolitan area.

San Diego, Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, USA USA (California): founded in 1542 as San Miguel and renamed San Diego de Alcalá de Henares 'St James of Alcalá of Henares' in 1602 by the Spanish after St James (d. 44), apostle and martyr, and the patron saint of Spain.

I understood that Diego is Spanish for the original latin/ Greek name Jacob, holds the heel, ( Iacobus, Iakobos, Jacobo, Jaime, Yago) which later morphed into a Hebrew name. Western cultures it often was changed to James, or Jacques.

In 1602, Sebastián Vizcaíno (1548-1624) was sent to map the California coast. He arrived with his flagship "San Diego". Vizcaíno surveyed the harbor and what is now Mission Bay and Point Loma, naming the area for the Spanish Catholic Saint St. Didacus (More commonly known as San Diego).

Dear Sir,

The Spanish form of the name "David" is "David."

From yet another source:

DIEGO: Said to have been derived from Spanish Santiago ("St. James"), but in the Middle Ages Diego existed in the Latin forms Didacus and Didagus, causing some scholars to suspect that Diego may have originally derived from the Greek word didakhe, meaning "doctrine, teaching."

San Diego is a corruption, a blot, and should be "Santiago."

We should have let you spend more time up here on the Node of the Perpetually Unfolding Present before inviting you to dally around down in the Uncharted Labyrinthine Tides of Deep Past BS. It can get really confusing once you cast off from the firm anchor of Now and go drifting about in the endless intermingled backwaters of Then. Sit down and just breathe for a while and you will feel better. Have a little brandy for your health's sake, there ya go.

If you're wading around in those old pages, be sure to look for BWL's story about the dogs that came into his yard one day. Funniest thing I've ever read, here or anyplace else. I may have saved a copy of it somewhere. I'd guess it's back in the 8000s or so.

I think you will find on doing your much-neglected homework, Mister Pair, that Diego is actually the Spanish for David, and has no relationship to "D'Iago", Saint James, King James, or even James town.

Diego:...a shortened form of SANTIAGO...

Sant' Iago is, of course, St. James and the Santiago is the long-time place of pilgrimage in Spain. San Diego is, of course, a corruption.

It occurs to me, Mister Ed, that you might enjoy MOAB Roulette. What you do, see, is wiggle your mouse around the grid of page numbers at the top of the page and click randomly on one of them. Lo!! A whole period of MOAB history, redolent with rich creative humor and spicy ne'er-do-well rejoinders, will unfold before your eyes for your meditating pleasure. From this exercise you will garner, over time, many deep and fulfilling insights. We ask nothing in exchange beyond writing them down and explaining these discoveries to the rest of us.

A fly sat on a crumb of cow dung being carried away by the rainwater flowing down the street. The streamlet took it to the end of the village where a stupa stood. The streamlet then went around the holy structure taking the fly on a circumambulation and finally joined into a nearby tributary. The fly was born into a human being in its next life,

'Tis the sound of the trumpet, the clarion call
Of the only horn ever preceding the Fall,
The sound of divinity, reaching through sound
To brighten the heart of the souls on the ground.
The brass of the Gods, of the angels and zephyrs
As greater than others as Jove among heifers!
And who is the owner, the artist who plays it?
When most every mortal doth fail who essays it?
'T is the one and the only, the mighty Rapaire
Whose sounds are so golden, who fing'ring so fair!
So honor him loudly, call his name to announce it.
But ignore what he says when you go to pronounce it!
The fair lass with flair on the stair in her lair
Gives evidence plain, 't is pronuncéd Rapaire

Rap-a-ree, Rap-a-rah,
Rap-a-ree, Rap-a-rah
a-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
Rap-a-ree, ,Rap-a-rah,
My knapsack on my back

I love to wander by the stream
That dances in the sun,
So joyously it calls to me,
"Come! Join my happy song!"

I wave my hat to all I meet,
And they wave back to me,
And blackbirds call so loud and sweet
From ev'ry green wood tree.

High overhead, the skylarks wing,
They never rest at home
But just like me, they love to sing,
As o'er the world we roam.

Oh, may I go a-wandering
Until the day I die!
Oh, may I always laugh and sing,
Beneath God's clear blue sky!
