For example, Wimbledon was shocked to its core a couple of decades back by a Hund who showed up wearing a Pollyana yellow skirt and orange sneakers on court. A major scandal was only averted when medical pathologists investigated and declared the offender was actually a Zombihund. Rapaire's pretentious assertions notwithstanding, that is the correct medical term.

Zombiedaschs (as they are known to the cogniscenti) can easily be told from a regular daschund by their...ah...their...well, their terrible tennis attire.

A real one has bits falling off of stuff that he hasn't swallowed yet...but that's a good distinction.

A zombie dachshund has little bits that fall off.

Somehow the notion of a

Zombie Dachshund

is singularly unfrightening--perhaps because I am not sure how you would tell the difference.

Little Hawk:   There....we have succumbed to your jejeune blandishments to discuss dachshunds again, and I hope you're satisfied.

Can we get back to tennis attire now?

Not anymore. He's a zombie dachshund, because he was bitten by a zombie toy poodle and was ashamed to go home. The only way to stop him is to put either salt or daschie treats in his mouth.

In the meantime, know that he's waiting...waiting...waiting...and wear your hip boots (all Canadians have them).

And he just got the very nice number of 28828. Not the one Janie is waiting for, but still, very nice.

Valdy would NEVER do something so gauche! He was a gentleman.

He's out there, waiting...and one day, when you least expect it...he'll pee on your leg.

Hitler sort of did the Bush thing of holding up his "common man - a guy you would like to have a beer with" thing as a Nazi ideal. Interesting, isn't it? ;-)

****

Valdy was indeed an aristocrat, you could see that in his grave and thoughtful nature, but he wasn't at all arrogant or aggressive about it, quite to the contrary. He was a shy, poetic sort of soul, one who deliberately avoided the limelight, but who did everything with exquisite sensitivity and style. He always gave the impression of wearing a tuxedo, probably with a rose in the lapel. He was extremely unusual among dachshunds, as most of them tend to be quite arrogant and brash, but not Valdy. If he had been human, he would have drunk only the finest wine, and would probably have composed sonnets and played the violin, and led a rather solitary and contemplative life. He was gentle and soft spoken.

There was a sort of wistful sadness about Valdy, as if he found the worries of corporeal existence weighing on his mind. He took great care with his health, and avoided any form of excess. He remained slim and good looking until he was very old, finally become quite grey around the muzzle.

There would, no doubt, have been a massive funeral, but his body was never found. He went out one night in a drizzling rain...extremely unusual, because he hated wet weather! And... he never returned. An exhaustive search failed to turn up his body.

It is assumed by those who knew him that he never died in the usual fashion at all, but somehow ascended straight from this world into some heavenly realm, leaving no physical trace behind. He walked into paradise on a moonbeam, angels in attendance, and left us here to sorrow and remember.

A most unusual dog was Valdy.

Well, actually...Hitler took away the "von und zu", along with a chunk of Ye Olde Familie Estate Ande Landes.

Rapaire has raised a bizarre string indeed.

""von" = any nobility (includes knights)
"zu" = higher nobility*, lost their name-giving place in the Luneville peace agreement 1801 or following years (Standesherren)
"von und zu" = higher nobility*, still owned the name-giving place in 1919

*- of Herrenstand, i.e. minimum Freiherr (baron)
The prefix "zu" was also awarded to the nobility that lost the territorial rule over their subjects due to Napoleon's radical changes to the German dukedoms and other small territories in 1803/1806 but retained the related title; unlike those who remained in power after 1815 (the Viennese Congress, as we all know) and bore the simple prefix "von".
"

Most, but not all, surnames of the German nobility were preceded by or at least contained the preposition von, meaning of, and sometimes by zu, which usually is translated as of when used alone or as in, at, or to. The two were occasionally combined into von und zu, meaning of and in approximately. (In general, the "von" form indicates the place the family originated, while the "zu" form indicates that they are still in possession of that place.) Other forms exist as well: von der (of the), vom (of the), zur (of the, in the, etc) and zum (of the, in the).

"Like nobles elsewhere, German nobles were acutely aware and proud of their superior social position, and often had disdain for commoners. As shown in Theodor Fontane's novel Effi Briest, they referred to one another as Geborene, or "ones who have been born", while commoners were called Geworfene, corresponding roughly to "whelped", "calved", or "foaled" in English, and properly referring only to non-human birth.
German noble families were almost always armigerous."

As the most armigerous of Mudcatters, Rapaire therefore thinks of himself as Geborene. Is it any wonder these poeple cracked up?

We had a dachshund for many years whose name was Oberon Waldemar von Schlendrien.

Match that for sheer nobility! ;-) He was an aristocrat. The poor fellow finally passed away a couple of years ago at a very advanced age, about 140 in human terms.

Hi MOM,

Sorry to have neglected you. I see the boys have generally been up to their quarrelsome ways.

We love them anyway.

The "Foot Loose" production was quite nice. I'm going back tonight. Watching high schools test and explore their creative wings is quite uplifting.

Sum Yung Sun's drumming was spot on. In fact, the entire 5 piece band did a a great job. Turns out, he could have been nekkid because the band is behind a screen and not visable to the audience. Heard lots of comments, with which I agree, that performing to live music instead of canned really added to the musical.

Several of the kids had real pipes on them. I was very, very impressed with the singing of several, and the acting ability of all.

We're building the plants to build the solar panels so that Californians can pursue their lotus-eating lifestyle:

Hoku.
Nordic.

A company making photovoltaic film (rather than panels) is locating here, name etc. not yet announced, but it's probably going to purchase an existing building once used to make pacemakers, etc.

And the two local semiconductor companies who are forming a partnership to help better regulate both photovoltaic and wind energy sources should be mentioned.

And, of course, there are the two wind turbine blade making companies AND the work being done at INL AND the two windfarms being installed out in the backcountry....

All so Californians can continue to eat loti and elect a Governator...and later retire to Idaho.

There was a pregnant paws....

"SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones)--Defying a global trend of weak solar demand, owners of homes and businesses in California installed a record 78 megawatts of solar panels in the first quarter of 2009, the California Public Utilities Commission said Friday.

While solar-panel prices have fallen 25% or more, on average, due to a global slowdown in demand, rooftop solar panels remain in high demand in California, the world's third-largest solar market, the CPUC data show.

The strength of California's solar market is due largely to generous state incentives, coupled with federal tax credits that greatly reduce the cost of installation and the fact that California has among the highest utility rates in the nation, making self-generated solar power competitive with conventional utility power, especially for large users.

The state is spending $3.3 billion to install 3,000 megawatts of solar panels over 10 years.

In a quarterly report on a solar rebate program it administers, the CPUC cited a recent change in the federal tax code that allows homeowners a larger tax credit for solar installations as a factor driving strength in that market.

Solar rebate applications filed with the CPUC in the first quarter hit a new quarterly record for capacity, at 52 megawatts, since the program started in January 2007, while the number of applications was down compared with the fourth quarter, the CPUC said."

Hey, Rapaire--how many Megawatts is Pocatello laying in?

I've walked the levees of the Mighty Mississippi when the water was so high the levees trembled like jello when you walked on them. I've been in a flash flood. My experiences with floods are comprehensive and international.

A flood's a flood. You cannot have a "nonflood flood" anymore than you can be "a little bit pregnant."
