There's a simple reason for long-term Mac use. It works better. We use the computer for other things, rather than as an occupation in itself.

This is less true than it once was, but it is still the general rule. UNIX based systems such as OS X work better than (shudder) Windoze.

There is that, but they could make a living selling Samsung instead, it just wouldn't be a single product line, they would also sell all of the latest Korean knockoffs.

Oh, I'm not really averse to Apple products. My wife has an iPhone and iPad. And my son-in-law is an Apple customer service manager. Apple's paychecks keep my daughter and grandchildren from having to live in a tent on my property.

Don't you just love Symantec? That's why I bailed on them a long time ago.

I am averse to apple products, they're too twee. I've set a bunch of old cables and chargers into the bag I'll drop in the e-waste bin at work. My office is looking better all of the time. I have lots of devices I can't live without, but I have even more bits and bobs left over from devices that I'll never use again. The days of the dedicated charger are long gone, so the chargers need to go as well.

The Bluenose will NEVER have a blue nose. Never did.

Call Us- Toll-Free 1-800-804-8318

"We're sorry. Your call cannot be completed as dialed."

AND, they tell me I cannot download the free trial because I ALREADY have an account that I can't access.

Fuck Norton. Fuck Symantec.

"...hopelessly addicted Apple consumer..."

Like Amos, huh?

I didn't know the Bluenose was a conservative ship. Sorry, but you now (via a bill just passed) have to paint YOUR nose blue to be a true-blue Canadian.

Apple Launches New Product

After succesful introductions of the iMac, iPhone, iPod, iPad and assorted and sundry other "i" products, Apple Inc. has announced the impending launch of the iDon't Need This. Apple's target market for this new product is the hopelessly addicted Apple consumer who cannot successfully relate to any product which doesn't have the Apple logo on it. The iDon't Need This does absolutely nothing, but it does so in a way that the snappy little Apple logo is always on prominent display.

BLUE?! That's the colour of the CONservative party... the very bastards that are screwing Canucks with omnibus bills. The latest one, the anti-terrorism bill, is truly terrifying. Habeas Corpus will be "repealed" and one may be arrested by other than police forces, among other things. The True North Strong and Fucked Over.

I must have missed the introduction of HANO jumping during my self-imposed exile from the MOAB. Couldn't you put your eye out doing that? I mean, literally, as in "Feet hit ground... Eyes pop out of head."

They'll tack a tax increase, except for the wealthy, onto that. Another will allow tax deductions for anyone in the Maritimes who paints the bow of their ship, boat, raft, canoe (over 16 feet), kayak, log, or other water-borne vehicle blue. Still another will permit up to forty (40) other amendments to be added to any bill regardless of the subject matter of the amendments and the original subject of the bill.

Meanwhile, a snippet from up north...

"NDP MP Peter Stoffer wants to put an end to what he calls "headline politics" and limit the government's use of omnibus bills, massive pieces of legislation that wrap up many disparate measures into one long bill.

At a press conference Thursday, Stoffer said omnibus bills prevent members of Parliament and senators from doing their jobs and properly representing the views of their constituents and Canadian taxpayers.

"It shames me to tell my constituents that the money I receive, the pension I get in the future is in many cases under false pretenses because I am not able to do the job that I'm paid to do."

Stoffer has drafted a private member's bill, titled Stop the Bus, would seek to amend the Parliament of Canada Act so governments are barred from packaging unrelated material in omnibus bills.

"Omnibus bills receive very little scrutiny. It's unconscionable that it continues in a democracy," he told CBC News in an interview Wednesday.

"You can't bring in a bill about farming and tack on something about foreign affairs," he said.

The Conservatives have used omnibus bills to change everything from pension contribution rates to the Environmental Assessment Act to refugee health care."

High altitude, No Opening. A specialty of Rapp's.

The scars are diminishing, and that's a good thing, but they itch something turrible.

Stitches come out on Thursday. Then we will see if I end up as Smiling Jack or Scarface...

As you can see my attention has been preempted.

Does it occur to anyone how healthy it would be if an act of Congress were passed requiring that any bill submitted be solely about one issue or decision, with no riders dragging in irrelevant issues from sme other area? THe National Relevancy Act would immediately undo 75% of the tapdancing around who gets what to say about what and to whom.

Okay, I know HALO is the acronym for High Altitude Low opening, but I haven't come across HANO before. Is it High Altitude Non-Opening?

All...those...posts.

Do I get another birthday? Am I younger now?

Amos, you scare the...wits...out of me just thinking about you, which I try not to do because if I did I'd be living in a continual adrenaline rush greater than that I used to get HANO skydiving without rubber soles and heels on my shoes.

Turns out that the MOAB is so long and has been here for such a duration that Google doesn't see a few hundred missing posts as anything worth showing in the cache. It says the thread is available online, and that's that.

We lost a helluva lot of baggage when the 'cat jumped the rails and landed in the snowbank. Until said baggage is recovered, we must carry on, and if it comes back, it comes back.

Our Coast--the Western one--is never quite all clear, I'm afraid. When the south end of it is dazzlingly pellucid, the hills in the North are swamped with low lying fog banks. When the Los Angeles Basin is mysteriously glass-like, the eastern borders of the coastal region are battered with drizzle or downpour. In between times the forest fires send mountainous threads of smoke into the arroyos leading tot he sea, and clutter the view up something wicked. Thus we are never quite in the clear. Whoever posed the question originally must have been thinking of the East coast.

I'm down to a couple of bowls of tomatoes from the garden that are still ripening on the kitchen counter. Come xmas day I will be able to offer my lovely daughter Moonglow a BLT from homegrown tomatoes. There are enough for both of us. Her father may come over also, but he eschews bacon and might at best eat a tomato with a little salt.

Tonight I simmered the already ripe tomatoes and made a fine concoction - homemade tomato sauce. It will go in the freezer because it's too much work to set up the canning apparatus and process. And I have to start making cookies. Spritz, anyone?

Well, on the 30th I go see an orthopedic surgeon about repairing my RIGHT knee. Medial meniscus tear. If all goes well the surgery will be the week of January 11. This should be arthroscopic surgery, but I'm getting sick and tired of slowly falling to pieces.

Of course, I did this while Pat was in the hospital and I was rushing around Doing Things.

Sounds like a lovely sofa, Amos. I had a futon that was comfortable and the dogs loved it (with many layers on it to keep the dog smell from lodging in the mattress) but it took up too much space so I donated it to the Salvation Army. I still miss it, but I do enjoy being able to walk into the room and move around easily. The kids now have more or less abandoned their bedrooms so those beds are used for guests.

Wow, GUEST. You seem to know Amos' housing condition. But since only very wealthy Republicans can live in the Marine-Corps-protected gated community of Sandy Ego I suspect you're right. I was there, once, to see my nephew graduate from (or into?) the Marines. He was handed a rubber truncheon and a pistol and told to "break the *&$%!! heads of any **@@##!!!$% who tries to disturb the peace of those who live here and whom we are sworn to protect." "Protecting" meant beating senseless, dumping into a boat, and tossing overboard beyond the three-mile limit, all the riff-raff, hippies, and ne'er-do-wells.

It ruined him. Now he's studying to be an electrical engineer instead of reading and writing the poetry he loved.
