What about the inchworm song:
two and two is four
four and four is eight
eight and eight is sixteen
sixteen and sixteen is thirty two

Bunn, you should start a tally of how many people ask you how to pronounce your name. It is rather unfair to use Gaelic though. bh=v usually. And for that matter other odd Gaelic spelling, mh=v or silent, dh=y or silent or gurgle, th=silent or h, fh=silent, sh=silent. All those silent consonants make for some strange spellings. Like Gaelic version of Donald is Domhnail pronounced Dol. That's not the worst one I've seen, jsut the first I could think of. Gaelic is a strange language.

I've never built one, but I've driven several crates.

Mathematical posts are sorta like playing hardcore bluegrass. Once a year is enough. And I've already made my one required mathematical post for the year. Something about division by zero being the same as multiplying by infinity, or something like that. Ya'll just carry on carryin' on in yer base eights and all that stuff. I gotta go build some crates.

Five times five is twenty-five
Five times six is thirty
Five times seven is thirty-five
Five times eight is forty.

Anyone else ever get that song stuck in their head?

Bunnhabhain [however do you prounounce that?]

if perchance you count by ten
the eigth decade postcedes when
Having counted up to seven
thirty counts before eleven

plus one

Thankyou!
I had the feeling I was dragging the standard of poetry down round here, but things like that cure me entirely.

I'm banking the highest known prime number. You can have half, if you tell me how much that is....

Bunnhabhain.

Amos, You are a man of ambition and style
Your elegant prose, always makes me smile.
Your sanity spurs on the brink of a trial,
And most of your poems go into, the X-file!

Rustic(with a smile)

The good thing about banking the extra digits of pi is that they are infinite. You never run out of digits. Last night as I was reading hitchhiker's guide, I found the mathmatical fallacy in their proof of why the universe has population zero. Than I thought there must be something wrong with me to bother thinking about it.
Bunn, I've got plenty of rotten vegetables in my fridge that I'd be happy to give to anyone desiring them (that was a request for rotten vegetables, wasn't it?) Although I have to say that was an improvement, only one line didn't exactly rhyme. And it had a pun.

I really don't understand why people bother posting about how pointless other people's threads are. It's BS. What is the point of any BS? Although there is a difference between questioning the usefulness of a Shatner thread, and just insulting Shatner.

Thanks for the converter links, but I've moved on. I've done binaray and hex, and now I am moving on to other bases. Well, I suppose at some point I could do octal and there's probably a converter for that. Although I don't know what post number this is, and it's getting too long anyway, so I'll save that for next time.

You ever think of volunteering to work for Delay, Rove, and company, amigo? You'd only use a few of your brain cells, and the rest could be banked for some future thinker to use...hopefully to good purpose...

That's what I did, too.

Why reinvent the wheel?

But come to think of it, why not? Maybe we could come up with a better wheel, one in which the "wheelness" in more pronounced. After all, there is little in the current wheel which is new, and we should all think "outside the box" these days. I mean, the old concept of pi, which is so critical to determining the current concept of the wheel, is so, so, BCE. Why not simply round it off to three, as has been proposed in the legislatures of both Texas and Indiana -- the additional digits could be carried over into a "pi bank" and used for other things, like balancing the nation debt or for use when we run short of numbers. And yes, we will run short of numbers -- the Congressional Budget Office predicts that we will use the last number somewhere around 10:12 a.m., October 7, 2094 unless we make changes now. One obvious answer is to bank extra numbers, like the decimals on pi, or the "carries" in addition. Just the latter would go far to preventing the coming number shortage:

66 + 43 currently = 109. But if the number bank were in place, 66 + 43 would = 9, and 100 digits would be banked for future use.

Simple and effective!

Instead are somewhat pointless,
Dangerous here,

I'm expecting groans and rotten vegtables for this effort.

Rapaire, I did a quick search (and I mean a very quick search) and couldn't find one. That just means it wasn't in the top three hits in google. There was code to program a converter, but that's beyond my abilities. Besides which, the point was I was wasting time, and I'm just working myself up to translating numbers into less common bases. Bet there isn't a converter to put numbers into base three. Like 7072, which in base three would be 100200221

COme gather 'round, folkies, leave trial and leave stress
And take up the torch in defense of BS
For there's nothing as grim or as sorry to see
As a girl singing lonely from up in a tree.

Come singers and poets, and spinners of tales
Who tell of the Gryffins, and Monsters and Whales,
Who weave wondrous stories of the heathen Chinee,
And Leave not poor Rustic alone in her tree!

And you who write poetry, narrow and long,
Step forth to assist her as she sings in her song,
How the world must be freed of all pain and duress
By making it safe for the best of BS!

How dark, like a dungeon, and dank as a mire
Would our world be deprived of its pure BS fire!
It would be such a bore, nevermore to soar free
So come stand forth boldly, just under her tree!

BS it is wholesome, it is good for the soul,
It raiseth the heart, makes the time sweetly roll
And there's nothing on earth or elsewhere I confess
That passeth the hours like a load of BS!!

With BS it isn't that you get what you pay for (politicians hand it out in bushels and rarely charge for it - though we end up paying for it anyway) just that the individually crafted BS has so much higher quality!

As an aside - do you realize how much really successful fiction started as bedtime stories for the children of the authors? Even some mystery and horror writers admit they run plot lines past their kids.

Parity for BS!! Parity for BS!!

There thousands of small-scale and family BSers going to broke because of corporate and government BS! Many have had BS in their families for generations, even millenia, and yet they are being driven to give up their heritage because politics and the greed of plutocrats! And this is while there is a veritable plethora, a staggering surplus, of BS in this country! We can't even export it fast enough! BS is being destroyed every day for Federal Agencies.

This is an intolerable situation! Picture the early pioneers, trekking across the vast, uncharted, prairies. Fighting bandits and wildfires, coping with loneliness and heartbreak, seeing those they love perish to disease and danger, laying the track and building the bridges. Fighting to protect their dream at such places as Stillman's Run; picture brave Fetterman and bold St. Clair, their wounds flowing with gore, still fighting on in spite of it all. And why? Because of their dream!

Yes! All for their dream that their children would have a Better Place For BS. And today we are ripping that dream to shreds, selling the souls of our foreparents to corporate greed and governmental interference.

Rise up! Strike now! Restore the American Dream! Free BS from the chains that bind it!

Unfortunately if you consider the number of actual messages, the equilibrium staggers, reels, and shatters.

Although there is an occasional reference to music among BS threads, there is a far greater incidence of BS to be found on threads nestled above the salt.

And in any case the BS threads count much higher than the music threads, in number of messages per thread, even if each was pure unto its class.

But that's alright Ma -- we're only dying. Since that is a universal condition of the life-cycle, as its inverse (anyone dying is progressing toward birth) we have no alternative, in the final analysis, but to celebrate eternal oscillation. An energetic, dramatic, harmonious, musical and communicating oscillation of forms in time and space, greater than which no mind has seen.

Amen.

Rev. A.

Ever' mornin' at the MOAB you could see him arrive
He stood six-foot six and weighed about ninety-five
Kinda broad at the shoulders and narrow at the hip
Ever'body knew you didn't give no "lip", to Big Amos.

Nobody knew where he'd left his cajones
He just drifted onto MOAB and played his trombone
He didn't say much, 'cause he was loud and famous
And if you spoke at all, you just said hi, to Big Amos;

Somebody said he came from San Dieg'
Where he got in a fight o'er a chicken leg
And an upraised finger from a huge right hand
Nearly sent him off to the promised land, Big Amos;

Then came the day when a hard drive crashed
Data was lost and files were trashed
MOABites were prayin' and hearts beat fast
And ever'body tho't they'd have to work at last, 'cept Amos;

Thru the dust and the tears of this man made hell
Walked a giant of a man the MOABites knew well
Grabbed a sagging sector and gave out with a groan
And like a giant Oak tree just stood there alone, Big Amos;

With all of his strength, he gave a mighty shove
Then Stilly yelled out, there's data above
And twenty MOABites logged in for a data save
And now there's only one left down there to save, Big Amos;

With floppies and jump drives they started back down
Then came that rumble that the drive had ground down
And as smoke and gas belched out of the draw
Ever'body knew that he'd met ol' Spaw, Big Amos;

Now they never tried to reopen that worthless thread,
They just placed a marble urinal in front of it
These few words are written on a plaque:
At the bottom of this pipe greps a big, big man, Big Amos.

I am torn between resorting to similarly scurrilous mediocrity in kind, or simply contacting Stirrup, Trawl, Windup, Troll, and Restimulatem, my attorneys, asking that they write you.
