A phrase stuck in my head years ago, when Erika Jong wrote about being the amanuensis of the Zeitgeist.

The adventures of Phoebe Zeitgeist appeared in "The Realist" back in the '60s. As I remember her clothing was usually scarce to non-existent.

You "fell like shit"--now that's an image to ponder, also. I hope you didn't hurt yourself, wherever you landed.

The crud has been going through the kids and their friends. I drove Moonglow home last night and met one of her housemates who left his room long enough to inform us that he is back in the land of the living.

Sorry you're poorly Rapaire. Don't aspirate. It would be the death knell for your presidential aspirations.

Shit usually lands fairly softly, but it depends, of course, on how far it has to fall first!

I too remember Phoebe Zeitgeist, having come across one of those books once. It was a ludicrous adult comic book sci-fi-fantasy story in which the heroine, the aforesaid Phoebe, kept falling, to her evident surprise, into one disastrous and bizarre situation after another, most of which involved her getting the bejeezus beaten out of her by someone (without any evident physical damage whatsoever...no bruises, no black eyes, not a scratch) while losing the last few remaining shreds of her clothing which in any case would not have covered a large postage stamp. Phoebe had the usual heroic dimensions of such heroines, which is to say that her breasts were probably larger individually than her head, and her thighs and buttocks of similar proportion.

Phoebe was really nothing more than an excuse for morons to indulge in sadistic fantasies of naked girls being pummeled as far as I could see.

It was gross and ridiculous. The violence, however, was of a sort which really couldn't be taken seriously, as it was too humorously stylized to seem anything like real violence. I have no idea why anyone would create such a character or such stories.

But for a price LH will not mention Rapaire's involvement with Ms. Zeitgeist while Rapaire is on campaign.

Okay. The previous discussion (which one, you ask? Just click here to find out) begs the question: What does this babe look like?

Idiotic stuff. I tell you, if Shane McBride had the talent to write and illustrate comics, he would have been perfect for doing "Phoebe Zeitgeist" episodes. You just have to be forever stuck at the mental age of a 14-year-old boy with a somewhat dirty mind and have a bit of graphic art talent at the same time.

Third time is the charm.

Ever since someone mentioned that Shatner/Spears get together, I can't get that kind of misalignment of humans out of my mind. How does one come up with similarly disturbing suggestions? Can we figure out a virtual dart-board, a way to pull together similarly mismatched (but visually rich, if rather nauseating) couples? And it doesn't need to be just airheads.

I was going to try for an example, but instead I just embarrassed myself--I thought "I can put in the name 'Sophia' and of course Ms. Loren will turn up." Alas, in this day and age, it's mostly porn, and that screen is what was up in my Google image search when my 15-year-old son walked into the room. And the damned browser window wouldn't go away, it had to query if I wanted to close all tabs. YES!! Just Close! Geezzz, Louise, too late. Oy.

Michael O'Donohogue, who is named on the PZ comic cover, went on to write for the "National Lampoon" and later, I think, for "Saturday Night Live." Frank Springer is/was also fairly well known in the comics world, but I can't put my finger on it right now. Wally Wood, a truly great comics illustrator, drew the "Disneyland Orgy" for "The Realist" in 1967.

My 11 yr old son loves to play fence. He actually spends 2 hours a day at it while playing Star Wars music.

Are there certain fencing clubs one should avoid/seek.

As a rule, fencing with clubs went out sometime soon after the Ice Age ended.

Modern fencing is done with epees and yippees and hooplas, although some sub-cults prefer more ancient traditions of combat such as mental beams, smile-gleams, and rapid blinking.

You'd best tell him that there's a considerable difference between TV/movie/theatrical fencing and historical/classical/sport fencing.

Historical fencing is an attempt to recreate, from surviving documents and books, how swordfighting was done when it was necessary for survival. This ranges from the Celtic to about the 18th Century and if you include sword duels, right up to today in some places.

Classical fencing is the way fencing was done until about twenty years ago. You learned parry, riposte, lunge, fleche, and the techniques that were developed by historical fencers and the idea was the protect yourself while scoring a point on your opponent. Classical fencing is still big in Europe and among a lot of the US fencers.

Sport fencing, as far as I can tell, is extending your weapon and fleching -- running at your opponent. The idea of protecting yourself because the weapon could, if real, hurt you has pretty much gone by the wayside.

Theatrical fencing is what's used on stage. It is usually done under the supervision of a Master Of Arms and is very carefully blocked and choreographed since the weapons are usually not bated.

Here's a link to the DC Fencing Club.

I have a sad story to tell you
It may hurt your feelings a bit
Last night when I walked into my bathroom
I stepped in a pile of ...

Shaving cream, be nice and clean.
Shave everyday and you'll always look keen.

Our baby fell out of the window
You'd think that her head would be split
But good luck was with her that morning
She fell in a barrel of ...

Shaving cream, be nice and clean.
Shave everyday and you'll always look keen.

sorry, couldn't resist...........

Kind of a nut? Does it matter and if so, why? Do you think that pecans or hazelnuts somehow rank above walnuts or almonds? Are you looking for status, to verify your miserable and putrid existence with shoddy status symbols? For shame! You should rejoice in being a nut and accept yourself for what you are, not what you would like to be.

Two monks were walking down a road and the youngest turned to the oldest and said, "Oh Master! Where are we going and what will we do when we get there?" And the older monk listened and then turned to the side of the road and sat upon a stone. The younger monk sat at the Master's feet and the Master said, "Look, kid. We're damned near broke and we can do this Zen bit about twice more before they run us outa town. Now shut the hell up and keep walking." And the young monk said, "Oh Master! Why can we not ride an ass or a camel?" and the older monk replied, "I told ya, punk. We're broke."

Why Rapaire!
I am surprised that you feel that what kind of nut one is shouldn't matter. After all, an Almond is nothing but a peach pit with delusions of grandeur.

Hazelnuts/filberts are difficult to crack - but survive the shattering of their shell quite well - and are subtle.

walnuts are very difficult to get to come forth from their shells - and rarely survive the experience intact. (the trauma!)

and the peanut is nothing but an imposter! A legume masquerade!

COme my brothers -- who cares what
Is the Ego of a Nut?
You are here, and so am I,
Filled with life and keen of eye,
And while bright, and so alive,
We should brightly post times five!
Why should we? You grumbly say!
And I reply, "For Half a K".
Stumble onward, write and strive,
Onward for the next of five!!
Half a K will quickly loom
In our mother's parlor room.
Drink your tea, enjoy your chatting.
Later, we can go out catting.

Your innuendo is pathetic
And your scansion diuretic,
Claiming there exists some tome
From which I took my little poem!

Every tired, sore quatrain
Is the offspring of my brain.
Though you may talk like a sceptic
You've a history badly kleptic,

Lifting lines and nabbing verse,
Changing lines to make them worse,
Stelaing language from your neighbor,
Hiding authors of the labor

And presenting as the maker
Work of which you are the faker!
Therefore, fie!! Endure rejection!
Your snide remarks are all projection!

From an oak-limb may you twist,
Double-tonguéd plagiarist!
Leave me to my silly lines,
Which, at least, I know are mine!
