I know, I know. And very little is digested -- most is, ah, regurgitated.

That's funny, Amos! Good one.

As the mother of a musician, and the daughter of a musician (and a pianist of sorts, but only in solitary conditions) I can say I've had infestations of musicians in my home. The other thing that works is the Mom Voice. If you pay too much attention, ask them questions, that also drives them off. :)

Ah, Rapairaree, you are a wily marsupial, of that I have no doubt...

I prefer to be addressed, now and in the future, as "Dominus et Deus meus."

Thank you.

First work day of the new year and MOM decided to clean out the garage. I see a front end loader she hired pulling up in the driveway. Whose shit is in the garage? You'd better run and get it before MOM has it hauled off to the dump or the metal recyclers.

Is that a Wayback machine I see them hauling out? Whose is that?

Naw--he was in CHicago, celebrating Valentine's Day a leedle bit preemachurely, like, with his friends who have their own garage. Or did have, anyway....

I think bagpipes in the hands of a new player might work almost as well as a wedding dress.

A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw:
It was a MOABian maid,
And on her dulcimer she played,
Singing of Mount BeeEsse.

Could I revive within me
Her symphony and song,
To such a deep delight 'twould win me
That with music loud and long

I would build that dome in air,
That sunny dome! those caves of ice!
And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware! Beware!
His flashing eyes, his floating hair!

Weave a circle round him, yes,
And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed
And drunk the milk of Mom's BS.

Well, they put out the explosion in the Legion Hovel finally. It was going on since Boxing Day, the longest sustained explosion in history. I mean, this was all one single explosion, not a series of separate explosion. Had something to do with Red White's temporal sequencer, which he was demonstrating to Long Tall Shorty by using a charge of giant powder to prove his point. The new Men's Room is pretty well wrecked and the Col. Gen. has incarcerated the two for violating the Standing Orders regarding the use of high explosives in the Hovel.

Fortunately the liquor supply was saved.

The local Seahorse, Seal and Sea Lion Benevolent Association has met to determine what response, if any, they should take regarding the news recently arrived from Pocatello concerning the extended explosion there. Unfortunately, before a consensus could be reached, the Sea Horses and Sea Lions decided to execute a filibuster against any contemplation of the idea being forwarded by the Seals that they should extend a flipper of friendship--or any other kind--to the Legionnaires so afflicted. It was the opinion of the Sea Lions that the Legionnaires might misinterpret this gesture as an indication they should flip off, get flipped or be told to go flip themselves, all of which could lead to unfortunate repercussions. The filibuster was barely begun, however, when the fish-wagon arrived and the meeting was adjourned.

Hey, I've done a Good Deed! I've obtained deck logs that will help a guy who was in the Navy Reserve and activated for the Berlin Wall crisis of 1961 prove that his ship docked at Bravo Dock, Saigon in February, 1962 and hence he is eligible for Agent Orange exposure benefits from the VA (he has some of the diseases that the dioxin caused)!

See, Amos? Sometimes librarians do people good. Even I do, sometimes.

All honor to the Manne who DOth Goode, goode Raparee.

Thanks for helping this fellow out.

Now, these logs--after all these years, they must have been worm-ridden and dry-rotted, unless they were pressure-treated cedar logs? Did they have his initials carved in 'em or something?

Rap probably tore up the deck, investigated the logs that made up said deck, and discovered little bits of agent orange embedded in their fibers.

Be careful, Rapparee, you might become infected yourself!

Eiseley, I already am.

Amos, these are electrostatic (!) copies of the original paper copies in the National Archives. Even states that on 23 February 1962 the ship went to general quarters and fired 8 plaster-filled practice hedgehogs before entering the Saigon River.

I'm humbly glad to use my humble skills to compassionately help someone else.

Rapparee, dig out the Wayback machine in MOM's garage and see if you can compress the explosion at the hovel that way. Or did you already use it, to rescue the booze?

Is this the gut that lunched a thousand chips
And Medicared the careless split of ileum?
Sweet Doctor, make me immortal with a stitch.
He liposucts my girth; see where it flies!
Come, Doctor, come, give me my appetite once more.
Here I will dwell, for heaven be in these chips,
And all is sauce for this fair gut of mine!.
I will eat Paris, and for love of thee,
Instead of Troy, shall Pocatello burn
And I will pray to ancient Galen wise,
And wear thy stitches on my bruised chest;
Yea, I will swell to crush the very heel,
And to my belov'd surgeon come again.

There's a subtle distinction to be made, Rapparre. I model, you parody, he rips off, as the declension goeth.

My borrowings are much too obvious--and from too well known a source--to be thought of as ripoff. Besides, my version is very funny. "Lunched a thousand chips". HAhahaha.

While y'all are wrassling with the white paint you put on your trees and streets every winter, a little entertaining story:

A man in Topeka, Kansas, decided to write a book about
churches
around the country. He started by flying to New York City, and
started working from there.

Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and
making notes. He spotted a golden telephone on the
vestibule
wall and was intrigued with a sign which read "$10,000 a minute."

Seeking out the pastor he asked about the phone and the
sign.
The Pastor answered that this golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to Heaven and if he pays the price he can talk directly to God.

The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way. As he continued to visit churches in D.C., Atlanta, Greensboro, Chicago, Milwaukee, and all around the United States, he found more phones with the same sign, and the same answer from each pastor.

Finally, he arrived in California. Upon entering a church in

San Diego, behold, he saw the usual golden telephone. But
THIS time, the sign read "Calls: 35 cents."

Fascinated, he asked to talk to the pastor. "Reverend, I have been
in cities all across the country and in each church I have found this golden telephone and have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to God, but, in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign reads 35 cents a call. Why?"

The pastor, smiling benignly, replied, "Son, you're in San Diego now.....it's a local call."
