Subject: RE: BS: Who's going to Beverley then? From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 28 May 03 - 03:12 PM If I knew a way of doing it on Mudcat, I'd attach a copy of the fringe programme. Suffice it to say that most of what we did last year in the PVFF survives into the fringe - the main casualty has been the music in the Mariners which has changed hands since last year. All of the others - Sun, Foresters, Oddfellows, Hodgsons, Beehive,Tiger, Nellies, Moulders are putting as much or more than they did in 2002. Assuming that the licensees come up with enough advertising, the festival programme (which includes the fringe) will be free - it cost £2 in 2001. I'm convinced that the free PVFF programme (designed by Les) last year got a lot of locals involved and I'm keen to repeat that for now and the future. Roger |

Subject: RE: BS: Who's going to Beverley then? From: Les from Hull Date: 28 May 03 - 06:39 PM Too true Roger! If the locals get a programme and go to a pub and hear some music and buy some beer and please the landlord who can afford to put some money in to provide a free programme... And hopefully there will more people about to watch dance displays and such and put money in tins. All this means support from businesses and people who live in the area who elect the people who contribute money and facilities to the festival. |

Subject: RE: BS: Who's going to Beverley then? From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 29 May 03 - 08:59 AM Everything that Les says about the free programmes is true and I have fought hard to get them this year. However, I have just been given some bad news: Chris Wade, the festival director, has informed me that, despite the best efforts of the publicity man Ray Grange, only one pub (the Sun) is prepared to take advertising space in the festival programme. That effectively scuppers any plans for a free programme although Chris says that they will be cheaper than in previous years - possibly £1. I have written an intro to the fringe to go in the programme and have mentioned all of the venues involved. I have also produced a one page table of fringe events which I will distribute to the pubs so that they can copy them and hand out to customers if they wish. This is not what we had hoped for but we can't expect the festival organisers to produce thousands of extra copies for nowt and, unlike last year, we don't have any money for printing. Roger |
Subject: RE: BS: Who's going to Beverley then? From: The DeanMeister Date: 29 May 03 - 10:05 AM She was asking for £50 per ad, Rog. Personally, I did't think that extortionate, but the smaller pubs don't wanna pay that much. Incidentally, if anyone spots a really drunk bloke who looks exactly like me wandering about the Festival clutching a guitar and singing lewdly at anyone who'll listen, it's not me. I'm not going this year, but my twin brother is apparently going to attend. Just wanted to clear that up in advance. |

Subject: RE: BS: Who's going to Beverley then? From: Les from Hull Date: 07 Jun 03 - 12:39 PM We'd better explain the 'Iced Gems at teatime' reference to those who haven't come across it before. Often at festivals we find that some people want to use the time between 6pm and 8pm(ish) to eat, but we are made of sterner (or dafter!) stuff. We like to use this time to have a nice little choice session, and, if possible, to give people an opportunity to sing or play (or recite or dance) something a bit different - something they may not want to attempt in a singaround, or something they might not get the chance to do in musicians session. Not to say that it has to be different, that's entirely up to you. Les and Maggie |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Beverley then? From: GUEST Date: 18 Jun 03 - 06:20 AM Thanks for the lovely write up, incidentally Roger. Respected throughout the country eh? Or did u mean county....? ;-) I gather there was a delayed entry regarding PTH, which has been rectified on the website, but I'm sure Ossonflags will be mortified when he discovers that the printed programmes unfortunatel do not carry a write up of the band. Oh well! I'm sure Friday will be busy anyway! PS Sorry I forgot the hand outs...! I did say this was likely, and asked to be reminded by Steve. |

Ta to all who joined in the sport and play, Terry for being showered with plectra. Maggie for mopping the floor, even if she had be told to do it in time. Please be patient and they will hopefully appear tomorrow when I can get all the piccy's onto the net from the machine in my office which has a much faster connection than the steam driven one we have at home. I might even manage a blue clicky thing as well! |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Beverley then? From: Noreen Date: 23 Jun 03 - 10:37 AM As explained at the bar of the Sun, Raggy (well there were other distractions!)... Post the URL of your website, or wherever you've uploaded your pics, to Pene Azul: jeff@mudcat.org and tell him which you want putting on Mudcat, and what you want them labelling etc. He will do the rest, superhero that he is (thanks Jeff!) Then they will appear in Member Photos & Info, reached from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. When the pics are there, you (or I, or anyone else who's taken the next step in remedial HTML, or anyone who can use the blickifier under the message box) can put a blue clickie in this thread to take people straight there. If you like, in the meantime, you can post the URL of your Kodak site in this thread so we can get there directly- depends if there's anything else there that you don't want available to the general public. OK? Mine's a Black Sheep :0) |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Beverley then? From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 23 Jun 03 - 10:42 AM After seeing all the people with badges and medallions saying things like "artist" and such. I'm going to get a big hat with a feather in it and the words "Director of the Fringe" spelled out in sequins. Seriously, though, any feedback good and bad about the various fringe events and venues would be helpful. If you are still suffering from alcohol amnesia, the venues that we used were: Oddies, Sun, Hodgson's, Tiger, Nellies, Forester's, Moulder's and Beehive. Rog |

Subject: RE: Who's going to Beverley then? From: Raggytash Date: 23 Jun 03 - 10:51 AM I spent a very pleasant hour wandering the streets of Beverley on Friday evening trying to find some singing from about 7.30. I can thinbk of worse places to wander through. Just an idea, Beverley must be steeped in history, I spent about an hour in St Marys church on Saturday, glorious place, any chance of a guided walk with someone giving a spiel about the place? |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Beverley then? From: Noreen Date: 23 Jun 03 - 11:12 AM Rog, surely as well as a feather your hat should have a fringe? |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Beverley then? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 23 Jun 03 - 12:43 PM On the subject of piccies can anyone recommend a site where I can upload ours (preferably free) I tried sending 70 photos to Pene Azul and the e mail couldn't cope no matter how I tried and anyway it might clog up mudcat so thought a clicky to a site would do. Found my cookie on Netscape but still won't work on Internet Explorer |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Beverley then? From: Noreen Date: 23 Jun 03 - 01:10 PM Try Yahoo photos, Mrs Duck. You have to sign up with them first but it's free, and I've always found it very easy to use. You get 30MB storage, which I've just noticed I've nearly used up. Once you have signed in, you select Add Photos (NO!) and tell it where on your computer you have stored your photos. You can upload a batch at a time, but I'd keep it to 3 or so at a time if you've not got broadband. Then once you have uploaded to Yahoo, you can send the URL to Pene Azul, as in my post above to Raggy. Want to see these photies! |
Subject: RE: Who's going to Beverley then? From: Les from Hull Date: 23 Jun 03 - 03:00 PM Raggy - Maggie and I were running the fringe Friday night singaround at Hodgsons (8pm on).
