Subject: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Max Date: 30 May 03 - 10:25 PM Mudcat is going down tomorrow night for about 10 days. I'm moving, with very short notice, and just could not afford to offload 2GB of data that the Mudcat is, so I had no choice. We should go down in about 24 hours from this post. Pene Azul and I are working on a temp site to keep you from going crazy, but it won't be everything and that probably won't be up till Monday sometime. Sorry for such short notice, and sorry for so little detail, but that's all I got. |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: khandu Date: 30 May 03 - 10:29 PM Thanks, Max, for the notice! (sob!) We will miss her, but we will see her again soon! k |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: catspaw49 Date: 30 May 03 - 10:34 PM Thanks for the heads up. Have a good move......and just to prove this is from me, have a good movement too. Tell me this is a plus move and things are going well huh? If not, lie to me. Spaw |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: katlaughing Date: 30 May 03 - 10:47 PM Thanks for the notice, Max. I hope it is only temporary? Selfish of me, I know, sorry. Good luck with your move and don't forget to breath.**bg** You, too, Pene! kat |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 30 May 03 - 11:07 PM Thanks for telling us, Max... couldn't be better timing for me... my wife and I are flying out to Wisconsin on Monday for my Mom's 96th birthday, and I won't have access to a computer for ten days. Is God good, or what? Jerry |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Helen Date: 30 May 03 - 11:11 PM Thanks Max, for everything you do for us. Please, don't put extra pressure on yourself worrying about how soon you can get Mudcat back online. We'll wait, as patiently as we can, until you have the time to do it. Some of us *do* have a life outside of Mudcat, although I can't think of any names right now to back up this wild claim (grin), so it will do us good to reintroduce ourselves to our spouses/partners, kids, cats, dogs, friends, neighbours etc and maybe do a little housework. Nah! Forget that idea! Anyway, I mean it. We'll wait until you are ready. Helen |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Stilly River Sage Date: 30 May 03 - 11:14 PM Oh, no. . . Mudcat withdrawal. . . I can feel it creeping up on me already. . . I hope the move is easy and swift, Max. Nothing lost or broken, everything fits in the new place, and all looks better than before! SRS |

Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Mark Cohen Date: 31 May 03 - 12:39 AM Oh, damn, guess there's nothing left to do but--in the words of Maynard G. Krebs--WORK??? And sing, and play music, of course. No apologies needed, Max. Watch this thread over the next 24 hours and you'll see how much this community you've helped create appreciates you. And if you need a little (well, very little) comic relief from packing and moving, try my new song, How Can I Keep From Moving? Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Joe Offer Date: 31 May 03 - 12:53 AM Good luck with the move, Max. I hope you've found a really nice place. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Blackcatter Date: 31 May 03 - 01:01 AM Good luck and thanks for everything Max (etal). There are many great sites on the net but you manage one of the great ones of the great ones. Sort of the Pete Seeger or Clancy Brothers of websites. Some trails are happy ones, others are blue. It's the way you ride the trail that counts, Here's a happy one for you. Happy trails to you, until we meet again. Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then. Who cares about the clouds when we're together? Just sing a song, and bring the sunny weather. Happy trails to you, til we meet again. - Blackcatter (and his World of TV Theme Lyrics) |

Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: katlaughing Date: 31 May 03 - 02:37 AM Max, sorry, meant to say this earlier...is there anything any of us can do to help, from a distance? Probably not, huh...well, you've got lots of love, good thoughts and thanksgivings coming your way. Oh, and a small check for an auction item is on it's way. Might buy a bit of beer or a pizza for the move.:-) Good luck and take care! luvyakat |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Liz the Squeak Date: 31 May 03 - 03:26 AM Is that 24 American Hours or 24 British Hours? Take care Max, don't put the baby in one of the packing cases, and pack the kettle, mugs and tea/coffee things last so they will be the first out. Have joy in your new house, may it soon become a home. Have laughter in your new house, and it shall. Have sorrows in your new house, you know they always come. But build the roof of hope, and faith the walls. LTS |

Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 31 May 03 - 05:13 AM Have a good break everyone, and do all the things you haven't been getting round to doing. Think of it - when it comes back all the existing threads will have drifted off, and it'll be like starting anew. Born again... In the meantime, for Mudcatters in my part of the world, don't forget Moreton Midsummer (which this year is on 14th JUNE, and Leigh-on-Sea, on 27th-29th. And we've got The Annexe and folkinfo.org. And see you back here in ten days or whatever. |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: MudGuard Date: 31 May 03 - 05:56 AM Max, thanks for the warning. And I hope everything (not only the Mudcat) will survive the move! Good Luck! If I were nearer (and could afford the time off work), I'd come to help... MudGuard (asking himself what he should Guard while there will be no Mud...) |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: GUEST,Jon Date: 31 May 03 - 06:18 AM Good luck with the move and McGrath, thanks for the mention. Just a short note re. folkinfo. The server it runs on has had periods of trouble lately. I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with my code (more likely someone else on the same server - eg. on the "Annexe server", we had some genius managing to keep 12 active db connections per page open - it killed us) and I'm only using fractions of my 500MB/ 7GB disk/bandwith limits but I'm not sure what would happen if I got much extra traffic. As a just in case, and for emergencies only, Pip allows me to use a "backdoor" at http://www.jonbanjo.com/folkinfo/. I can't provide everything from there but at least the fourm and song database work - no tunes though. |

Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: GUEST,Jeri Date: 31 May 03 - 07:27 AM Max, thanks for warning us. Apparently, my ISP thinks you're at the new (temp?) site already as it looks for Mudcat at a strange IP number. Hope the move goes well, and I hope the new place makes a good home. Happy Birthday to Jerry's mom! |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Morticia Date: 31 May 03 - 07:50 AM Good luck with the move,Max....I will miss my fix of Mudchat in the evenings...everyone stay safe and well til we all get back together again. |

But what am I going to do about my Mudcat addiction? And those tunebooks have to go back to the library soon. Oh well, a little forced vacation from the Mudcat might be good for me. I am going to have to get my TV set repaired (*shudder*)! |

Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Giac Date: 31 May 03 - 10:09 AM Arrrrrrgh! Do appreciate the warning, Max. My auction money is heading that way, too. That is for "Who Is DW Ditty?" -- a superb blues CD, which I was fortunate enough to get through the auction. Hope this move goes well for you and all your girls. Ten days is a long time, sigh. Catch ya later. Love -- Mary ~;o) |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: black walnut Date: 31 May 03 - 10:27 AM Methinks this announcement should be in big red letters above today's threads, lest somecat miss it. Best of moves, ~b.w. |

Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: GUEST Date: 31 May 03 - 11:12 AM Is this the reason why I couldn't reach the mudcat by clicking on my bookmark? So why than could I make it by using altavista supersearch? Anyway it worked and now I know*sniff*
All my best wishes for your move, just take it slowly, don't hurry with the mudcat.... ok..a little bit...I'm shure we'll all survive, hm, at least the most of us. All my best wishes to you and your family - hope you'll soon get warm in your new surrounding. menzze |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Ebbie Date: 31 May 03 - 11:14 AM Thanks for the heads up, Max. May your move be swift and smooth. Have I told you lately that I love you? Many, many thanks for all the happy hours of the Cat. |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: GUEST,amergin Date: 31 May 03 - 11:20 AM oops seems i forgot to wish goodluck on the move...but anyways goodluck...I hope all is well... amergin |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Stilly River Sage Date: 31 May 03 - 11:45 AM Maybe I need to take a page from Max's book (and Mark's song!) and do a little packing up around here while the 'Cat is down. It might only move clutter to boxes, then to shelves or closets, but a little late spring cleaning wouldn't be amiss. A question: if this move is taking 10 days, is travel of some distance implied, or just waiting for the new place to become available? Will the mailing address change? I know Max said he didn't have time for details, but if this would be a good time to send along a smallish check to help, is the address we've been using the best place to send it? SRS |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: GUEST,menzze Date: 31 May 03 - 11:56 AM Has anyone packed my cookie in one of Max's moving boxes? Stranger to appear as a guest!!! menzze |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: JennyO Date: 31 May 03 - 11:58 AM Good grief. I might have to get a LIFE! Well, at least I'll get some sleep. Actually, for the last four days of the ten, I'll be at a folk festival, and Mudcat should just be coming back on about the time I get back. Nice timing! Jon, I had a look at your alternative site, and noticed I'm a guest.Do I have to register all over as a new member to get my name up there? Anyway, good luck with the move, Max. You'll have to sing some of the moving shanties on the Moving thread! Jenny |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Alba Date: 31 May 03 - 12:03 PM Good Luck with the Move Max and Family. Thanks for all you do. Will appreciate the Mudcat even more after a short break. Absence makes the heart grow fonder!!!:>) A |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Going Down From: Geoff the Duck Date: 31 May 03 - 12:10 PM Of Course, if you get major withdrawal symptoms, there is always the WAYBACK MACHINE... For those who haven't already been there, you can find old versions of Mudcat archived for posterity. You can get to old Mudcat by following this link http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.mudcat.org. It may not be the same as a real-time argument with Catspaw, but a lot better than a visit to the NYCFTTS. See you all online when we return!# Quack! Geoff the Duck. |
