I wonder if anyone can tell me what artists have recorded the Scottish song "Jimmy Raeburn" and provide CD titles that feature this song.

Thanks,

Teribus.

The tannahill Weavers did it, I think on the album Passage. It's usually called "Jamie Raeburn," or "Jamie Raeburn's Farewell," so a google search will probably turn up some recordings.

Also on 'Lassies Fair & Laddies Braw'
by Heather Heywood

Also on Ossian's first, self-titled album, from the Springthyme label.

etc...

My band recorded it! Available through our website. There's a sound bite here.

Cheers,
Michael

We (the band carritwen) did a wee version made famous by the Tannahill Weavers on their album "The Passage".

I think this is a lovely version but others are fine as well, amongst them the version of Ossian, sung by the late Tony Cuffe.
All the best

There's a video of the fine Glasgow singer Tom Laurie singing it at the Craigdarroch in Moniaive during the Folk Festival a couple of years back.

The waltz tempo came about through over-enthusiastic accompanists, much to Tom's irritation.

Duncan McCrone as well.
Tom Laurie is a great singer, and I think, usually prefers to go unaccompanied. He usually comes to our session at Innerleithen Music Festival.

Jamie Raeburn by Barbara Dickson
If it goes - Far frae the bonny hills and dales of Caledonia
Somewhere I have a tape of her at Hexham Festival, Lizzie Higgins on the same bill
But is our ten years ago enquirer still interested?

Just checked the text in Digitrad and see Willie Scott songbook. If you think of Willie you can't but hear the lilt and picture the twinkle...
I'm sure Barbara Dickson sang Jamie and what a powerful driving version it was

Danny Spooner sang it in a concert at Wellington, NZ, back in 1973. I have a recording of it but I don't think anyone else has!

Other recordings include those by Dougie Scott (on the CD "Borderers" - Kyloe 102) and the English gypsy singer Phoebe Smith (she called it "Johnny Abourne", on the CD "The Yellow Handkerchief" - Veteran VT136CD). Both CDs are available from Veteran Mail Order.
