IN THE EARLY 70'S A SONG, I THINK THE TITLE WAS WHISKY WHISKY.. WAS ON THE JUKE BOX WHERE I USE TO DRINK ICED TEA. THE CHORUS WAS... "WHISKY, WHISKY, MY OLD FRIEND, I'VE COME TO TALK WITH YOU AGAIN. MILK OF MERCY PLEASE BE KIND... HELP DRIVE THIS FEELIN' ON OFF MY MIND..." IT WAS A REAL "CRYIN IN YOUR BEER SONG" AND SUNG BY A FEMALE THAT STRANGELY SOUNDED LIKE LINDA RHONSTAT..(SP?) ANYBODY?

It was recorded by Rita Coolidge (not sure if spelling of last name is correct), I don't remember any other details about the song.

Click here to find the complete lyrics at the International Lyrics Server, which attributes the song to Kris Kristofferson. Like most of the online lyrics sources, the International Lyrics Server tends to attribute songs to the performer, rather than the songwriter. In this case, however, it's morel likely that Kristofferson wrote it.

Subject: Lyr Add: WHISKEY, WHISKEY (Tom Ghent)
From: Gene

HI Joe...I had already dug this out, so thought I'd post it anyway....lyrics just a little different from the KK version. And the writer is listed as Tom Ghent.

RITA COOLIDGE/THE LADY'S NOT FOR SALE
A & M Records/SP4370

WHISKEY, WHISKEY
Singer: Rita Coolidge
Writer: Tom Ghent

He's a little bit like the sunshine, just before the rain
A little like the quite night, (be)'fore the cold winds came
He's a little bit like the weather, I never know when he's gonna change
He's a part of my heart and a whole lot of my pain.

CHORUS
Whiskey, whiskey, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Milk of mercy, please be kind
Drive this feelin' from my mind.

Don't you know somehow his smile makes the day begin
He'd take away this mask of gray, let the sunshine in
Now I find I've been blinded by the cold and wintry winds
He disguised behind his eyes, oh what a fool I've been.

CHORUS (2X)

Subject: Searching for songs
From: Joe Offer

Well, Rose, didn't the link I provided lead you straight to the lyrics of the song? I just tried it, and it worked for me. Click here for the master search page of the International Lyrics Server. You'll note that there are many different ways to search. I often use the fulltext search function that's similar to the one we have here, and I search for a distinctive phrase from a song, rather than for the title. In this case, "milk of mercy" seemed to be a very distinctive phrase. Sure enough, it pulled up the right song on the first attempt. If I had done a title search like you did under "whiskey whiskey", I would have come up with nothing until I entered "Whiskey, Whiskey" punctuation and duplicate words can throw you off, since various search engines handle them differently. Words with varieties of spellings will throw you off, too - "whiskey" brings up too many songs, and "whisky" too few - both here and at the International Lyrics Server (here, though, you can enter whisk* and get the best of both worlds).
That same trick of searching for a distinctive phrase also works very well at my favorite Web search engine, http://hotbot.com/. Just make sure you set it for "exact phrase."
Other good places to search for lyrics are

Cowpie(Country)
Rabid Squirrel's Jazz Archive
LEO - Link Everything Online (UW Parkside & OLGA)
Lyrics World
International Lyrics Server

All of these links, by the way, are in our links section, along with lots of other gems. Hope that helps.
