Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Back? From: Max Date: 16 Jun 03 - 11:45 AM I think there has been an error on the Mudcat Hard Drive since the move. We had 3 lightning storms in 2 days, and even though I have everything money can buy to protect from surges, anyone who works with computers knows that they will only do so much. What I know for sure is that the hard drive failed and currupted the windows installation, along with the webserver and application server. I had to rebuild it very carefully because it is a RAID system. What I am not sure of is if I fixed it for good, so I will likely have to buy a new hard drive (I'm fresh out) and rebuild the whole system. |

Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Back? From: Charley Noble Date: 16 Jun 03 - 05:46 PM Max- In addition to surge protectors we also use battery back-up units, generally good for a half hour or so. Here in Maine we experience short random surges and outages, and the battery back-up units have provided us a lot of comfort. Is this something you're already using? If not, it might prove useful. When power returns to normal the battery units cycle off automatically. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Back? From: SINSULL Date: 16 Jun 03 - 05:57 PM Have you changed your mind about Taj Lightnin'? Thanks, Max. I got some stuff done around the house too. But Sunday was Fathers' Day. Hope you got in some quality time with the girls. SINS |
Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Back? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 16 Jun 03 - 06:17 PM I was just watching an episode of Star Trek (TNG). All seems very similar. The hi-tech jargon floating way up above my head, everyone holds their breath - and then it's sorted, and the Captain says "Engage!" Gripping stuff. (But Max best watch out he doesn't buy any Ferengi hardware...) |

Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Back? From: Max Date: 17 Jun 03 - 02:18 AM Yep, we got batteries too. It helps with short outages, but not surges and direct hits. Though I may have too much stuff on too few batteries. Its all we got though. Chester County is known for a high iron content in our ground, so its always fun here when it comes to lightning storms. |

Subject: RE: From Max: Mudcat Back? From: Wolfgang Date: 17 Jun 03 - 02:38 PM I'm very glad too to have the cat back. Since this is a thread bordering to the technical side I dare to ask why there is a hidden link to the 'Schemm' team at the bottom of all threads I have looked. Search this page for 'Schemm' to find it. I'm just curious. Wolfgang |
