Wow, what a weekend. Finally got the Cat back, but I'm still not sure how stable she is. Lets cross our fingers and be prepared for me doing more work throughout the week.

I think there has been an error on the Mudcat Hard Drive since the move. We had 3 lightning storms in 2 days, and even though I have everything money can buy to protect from surges, anyone who works with computers knows that they will only do so much. What I know for sure is that the hard drive failed and currupted the windows installation, along with the webserver and application server. I had to rebuild it very carefully because it is a RAID system. What I am not sure of is if I fixed it for good, so I will likely have to buy a new hard drive (I'm fresh out) and rebuild the whole system.

Maybe Rapaire can help with parts? Judging by his posting in the help forum.

Thanks very much, Max, esp. for all you did with it being Father's Day and all! So good to have it back on.

Max, your dedication to the Mudcat is absolutely astounding! Many people would have packed it in much before now. As soon as I can spare some, I'll be contributing as well.

Thanks again,

jeffp

Max-

In addition to surge protectors we also use battery back-up units, generally good for a half hour or so. Here in Maine we experience short random surges and outages, and the battery back-up units have provided us a lot of comfort. Is this something you're already using? If not, it might prove useful. When power returns to normal the battery units cycle off automatically.

I was just watching an episode of Star Trek (TNG). All seems very similar. The hi-tech jargon floating way up above my head, everyone holds their breath - and then it's sorted, and the Captain says "Engage!"

Gripping stuff. (But Max best watch out he doesn't buy any Ferengi hardware...)

Yep, we got batteries too. It helps with short outages, but not surges and direct hits. Though I may have too much stuff on too few batteries. Its all we got though. Chester County is known for a high iron content in our ground, so its always fun here when it comes to lightning storms.

being away all weekend, I totally unplugged EVERYTHING connected with the computer...been WAY too many storms this year, and I do not trust Mother Nature, as Max has explained.

sitting on iron ore, huh? What fun!..we need a Mudcat mirror on some granite outcrop in Colorado!

I'm very glad too to have the cat back.

Since this is a thread bordering to the technical side I dare to ask why there is a hidden link to the 'Schemm' team at the bottom of all threads I have looked. Search this page for 'Schemm' to find it. I'm just curious.
