The above blicky gives full details. Newcastleton is a beautiful village approx 20 miles off the M6 north east of Carlisle just over the Border. Free or very cheap camping/caravanning is available in the village!! All reports of this festival have been "excellent" so ...... |

Subject: RE: Newcastleton From: John Routledge Date: 10 May 04 - 06:13 AM Thanks Mappa Mundi - now I know why the riverside camping is free. The camping in the park is only £5 per tent/£10 per caravan for up to four nights so must be a better option :0) |

Subject: RE: Newcastleton From: Wolfhound person Date: 29 Aug 08 - 04:04 AM Next year, 2009, will be the 40th festival. July 3-5. And unless the current organisers can find new blood to help them it will also be the last. It is noted for its sessions, and competitions. Also for its wonderful spoof Border riding (on bicycles). However venues for sessions have reduced in number over the 15 years I've been going to the point where some of us from Northumberland / Borders have been squeezed out by wall to wall Irish & bluegrass. The campsite(s) are very very noisy, and closely packed, so if you actually want to sleep, book into a site a few miles away, even if it does mean someone has to drive. Over the years there have been riots, knife & bottle fights....mostly involving non-participants who go there to get drunk ....mind you this is the West Border / debateable land, s what do you expect? It's great fun. Paws |
