If you accept a gig playing at a Chinese wedding, just make sure to check your playlist, okay? Consider the following tale:

Couple wins refund over sad songs played at wedding

July 4 2003

A pair of newlyweds in China have won a refund for their wedding banquet after sad songs were played throughout the festivities.

As the couple toasted their marriage with guests at a restaurant in Keqiao, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, morose Chinese songs including You Took Away My Woman and Why Do You Love Someone Else Secretly were played in the background.

The couple were given an 80 per cent discount on the banquet, which cost 1500 yuan ($270) per table, after they threatened to report the restaurant to the local consumer association, the Hong Kong edition of the China Daily newspaper reported.

Anyone know the lyrics by the way to "Why Do You Love Someone Else Secretly?" -- I think we could make a country hit out of it...

I think most country artists have already done that under several diifferent titles and tunes...

My brother played "All My Exes Live in Texas" at his last wedding, the one that has lasted.

I'm a single lady of a certain age, and therefore a bit cynical about matrimony. I always serenade newlyweds with "Sorry The Day I Was Married."

Don Partridge's "To The Wedding I Won't Go Boys" would fit in here very well.

Having read about feng shui (sp) and seen what importance the Chinese ascribe to their surroundings, I can only wonder how a Chinese restaurant could do something so stupid.

I got a bit of a negative response from Allan and morticia when I offered to sing "Those Wedding Bells Must Not Ring Out". Some people!

A friend of mine was persuaded not to have, at his wedding, a chorus of "Turn back, O man, forswear thy foolish ways".

We sang "Don't get married girls" at a friends wedding. It must have been too late because they are still together.

I usually sing "I wish I was single again" at weddings.

I can remember a friend asking me to sort out some hymns for her wedding. I asked her what her favourite was and she hummed me a tune. Her mother never forgave me after finding "Oh Lord and Father of Mankind, forgive our foolish ways" on the service sheet.
