This song was inspired by the story of Irish immigrant and Texas historical figure, John Power. The battle of Vinegar Hill was fought "in his backyard" when he was 10. He went on to become one of the most important figures in Texas and Mexican history. He married into a prominent Mexican family, learned the language and the culture. He died in his mid-70's.

An English version f the Spanish chorus says:
