Bluenose (Stan Rogers)
Transcribed from "Songs From Fogarty's Cove"

(Am) Once again with the tide she (Am/G)slips her lines
Turns her (Fm9)head and comes awake
(G) Where she (Am)lay so still there at (Am/G)Privateers Wharf now she (Fm9)quickly gathers way
(G) She will (C) range far south from the (E7)harbour mouth
and (Am)rejoice with every (D)wave
(Am)Who will know the (G)bluenose in the (Fm9)sun
(Am)Who will know the bluenose (G)in the (Am)sun

That (D) proud fast queen of the (G)Grand Banks Fleet
Port(C)rayed on every (E7)dime
Knew (Am)hard work in her (D)time... hard (Am)work in ever line
The (D)rich men's toys of the (G)Glouster boys
With their (C)token bit of cod(E7)
They (Am)snapped their spars and )D)strained to pass her by(G)
But she left (E7) them all behind.... (Am) Now her namesake...

This book is a MUST have for any Stan Rogers fan! Get it... keep it close to your heart!

Just in case there are folks who don't know...

When I was in Halifax in May, the Bluenose II wasn't there. I gather she's had her $10 million overhaul and is touring around on the Tall Ships circuit, more or less. Anyone seen her?

Just curious.

Willie-O

y'know, if you'd asked me, I'd have said this wasn't one of Stan's best. And it certainly isn't among the top echelon of his works. But as "commissioned as theme music for a CBC production" pieces go, it's very good indeed.

Willie-O: Bluenose moves regularly between Halifax and Lunenburg, and can usually be found in one of these locations during the summer season. She does not normally travel with the Tall Ships, although she may join them briefly if they visit other Canadian ports.

On Highway 103, there is an additional sign below the Lunenburg mileage marker that says "Bluenose IS/IS NOT in port".
