Back in the sixties in the pubs of this area, singers from Glasgow usedto do weekend gigs. One of the favourites was an old Gallagher and lyle song which contained the chorus line "Just being Andy Mooney take you anywhere in the world".Its been going through my head a lot lately, but I cant get the lyric or title...Anybody there? |

Subject: RE: Gallagher -Lyle 'Andy Mooney' From: Geoff the Duck Date: 04 Aug 03 - 11:14 AM I used to like Gallagher & Lyle, but haven't heard any for years - old vinyl, house moving etc... I don't recall the lyric, so did a general web search for Gallagher & Lyle. The best shot seems to be this site http://www.rito.com/g&l/frames.htm which is a fan site. It has a forum - so you could ask the question there. Best of luck! Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gallagher-Lyle 'Andy Mooney' From: akenaton Date: 04 Aug 03 - 05:45 PM Thanks Geoff Ill try your link. Back in the 60s all the young folkies were into Benny and Graeme as they lived quite near my home, and the first G+L songs were performed regularly in the pubs and hotels....This song is one which was very popular at the time and was an anthem of my youth...Ill let you know how I get on....Thanks again Ake... |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gallagher-Lyle 'Andy Mooney' From: Jim Dixon Date: 16 May 10 - 09:48 PM Who is the Andy Mooney they're referring to? I assume it's not the Disney executive. I've listened to the YouTube video and the sound quality is very poor. Anyone who is somewhat familiar with the song would probably do a better job of transcribing it than I would, so I won't attempt it just now (though I normally eagerly attack projects like this). |

Subject: Lyr Add: GREAT AUSTRALIAN DREAM (Gallagher & Lyle) From: cnd Date: 18 Aug 15 - 02:35 PM Lyrics: Stealin' time for a thought, and lately I don't get a lot, But the thoughts that I've got, they all go to you, Andy Mooney From the newspapers it would seem You're face-to-face with a great Australian dream But it's alright It's alright Just bein' Andy Mooney takes you anywhere in the world Now the time has arrived to pack your bags for Australia All the boasts that we heard are born in the boats on your doorstep Turn your back on those idle words Say goodbye to the tripe* and all the yards 'Cause it's alright It's alright Just bein' Andy Mooney takes you anywhere in the world Now and then when I'm on my own I'd like to think that you've packed the bags and flown Oh, but it's alright It's alright Just bein' Andy Mooney takes you anywhere in the world But it's alright It's alright Bein' Andy Mooney you make it anywhere in the world *"Tripe" is reportedly Australian slang for "worthless" |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Great Australian Dream (Gallagher & Lyle) From: GUEST,Gaz10UK Date: 29 Feb 16 - 12:06 PM Verse 2 Now the time has arrived to pack your bags for Australia All the boasts that we heard are burning the boats on your doorstep Turn your back on those idle words, say goodbye to the Clyde and all the yards. Song is about a shipyard worker on the River Clyde, near Glasgow who moves to Australia in search of opportunity when the emmigration drive to Australia happened. |
