Yes, it's unbelievable, but yup, it's true. Premiering tonight on the Food Channel, from Las Vegas: Iron Chef USA, hosted by None Other.

Info is here. Bon Appetit!

Cheers,
Michael

Very cool. Of course, Bill can outcook any of 'em at least when it comes to barbecuing steaks and burgers, but he's being generous and just hosting tonight. This is a must-see event! Get ready folks, and make sure to take copious notes.

This may do more to destabilize US-Canadian relationships than anything since the War of 1812. Still, so long as he doesn't sing...

He was cute in the "Celebrity" music video. As Dennis Miller once said after a series of clips featuring Shatner during the MTV Awards, he's got balls.

May 7, 2003  |  VERSAILLES, Ky. (AP) --

William Shatner's ex-wife has sued him for breach of contract over breeding privileges of three American saddlebred stallions.

Marcy Lafferty Shatner claims in her civil lawsuit that her ex-husband broke an agreement in their 1995 divorce settlement that allowed her one breeding privilege per calendar year.

The lawsuit says that until this breeding season, the ''Star Trek" star provided Lafferty the semen of one of the horses, Great Day's Came the Son, in ''fresh cooled format." In March, the lawsuit says, Lafferty learned the breeding privileges from that horse and two other stallions would be in the form of frozen semen.

''Mr. Shatner's offer to provide semen from the three stallions in question in frozen form is unacceptable to Ms. Lafferty," says the lawsuit, filed in late April in Woodford County Circuit Court. ''Potential buyers of the breeding privileges do not want the semen in frozen format."

The 72-year-old actor has owned central Kentucky horse farms since the mid-1980s and has homes in Lexington and Studio City, Calif. As of Tuesday, he hadn't responded to the lawsuit.

This isn't Shatner's first legal entanglement involving horse breeding. In 1990, a former associate sued him over breeding rights to a world champion fine harness horse. Shatner won that case in Fayette County Circuit Court.

That story is a lot of horse puckey! What Bill doesn't know about breeding is not worth knowing. His ex-wife is just annoyed because she lost the World's # 1 stud in a moment of poor judgement. I predict that Bill will sail to an easy victory in this confrontation as he boldly goes where no actor has gone before. The Man can cook! Believe it.

" William Shatner's ex-wife has sued him for breach of contract over breeding privileges..."

Please be sure to read the original sentence in it's entirety.

Actually the program looses something in the translations. In the Japanese original the go to great lengths to explain that the guy who created the show loves food. It's obvious Shatner loves food, too, but it's also clear he's doing this for a paycheck, not love.

Be careful. Shatner's favorite way of cooking is Vulcanization!

He always was a big ham. And now his head looks like one... with an expensive yet goofy toupee.

Still: "Cap'n Kirk, you've got a luvly daughter..."

Mario, I begin to fear for your very soul! Oh, the denial! One day you will look back with deep regret upon that decision and say to yourself, "If only I had appreciated Bill while I had the chance! Now my life is ending and it is too late to undo what I have done! Oh woe! Oh bereftitude! Cursed be the day when I spurned the Great Shatner and miserable, thrice miserable is my wretched and lonely fate!!!"

Or something like that... :-)

His daughter, by the way, leaves the alien stewardesses of Planet Glypton 5 totally in the dust.

"Oh woe! Oh bereftitude!"

Little Hawk, is that a quote from Milton, or what?

Ha! It could be Milton, couldn't it? I invented the term "bereftitude" one day whilst composing doggerel on Mudcat, and I have been using it on handy occasions ever since.

I lost all respect for Shatner when I saw him speak live in Ithaca during my college years. I had very little left for him at that time anyway as I had seen him in a movie based on Zenna Henderson's "The People" - and it took me years of re-reading the books to wash the taste of his acting out of my mind.

just yesterday I happened on an episode of "Columbo" (ditzy dectective in trench coat) and spent 15-20 minutes shaking my head over the lousy acting/appearance of the villain ...then he turned his head JUST right, and...ohmygod! Shatner!, plump and wearing this 'teeny' pencil-thin mustache which looked like it had been drawn on with a thin magic marker. I watched all the way to the end so I could see him get out-witted, caught and led away in handcuffs as he vainly tried to register an emotion.

It is really something when someone's acting comes off worse than Columbo's

Damn right, Bill! Only a complete Master can out-ham "Clodumbo". Why do you think we have created an entire educational institute of BAAAAD acting in Orillia as homage to William Shatner, rather than old whatzisname (Peter Falk). Because Shatner is THE MAN, that's why! Peter Falk is annoying. Ricardo Montalban is very annoying. But Bill Shatner is simply breathtaking!

He has no peers.

I was right, Mario. You're beyond redemption. Consider your invitation to the next Kirkathon rescinded. A polite nod will suffice when next we meet.

So is Bill going senile? Now he's advertising cereal in the guise of an uninvited house-guest. Funny, but also kind of embarrassing. He also seems to show up as comic relief in a helluva lot of movies, TV shows and music videos lately.

And, just for completeness' sake, WS's take on the "I am Canadian" rant (from the Montreal Just For Laugh's comedy festival):

I am not a Starfleet commander or T.J. Hooker.
I don't live on Starship NCC-17 oh-whatever or own a phaser.
I don't know anyone named Bones, Sulu or Spock.
And no, I've never had green alien sex, although I'm sure it would be quite an evening.

I speak English and French, not Klingon.
I drink Labatts and Molsons, NOT Romulan ale.
And when someone says to me, 'Live long and prosper,' I seriously mean it when I say 'Get a life!'

My doctor's name is not McCoy, it's Ginsberg.
And Tribbles were puppets! Not real animals! Puppets!
And when I speak, I never ever talk like...    every...    word...    is...    its...    own...    sentence!

I live in California, but I was raised in Montreal.
And I believe in Priceline.com, where you never have to pay full price for airline tickets, hotels and car rentals.

I have appeared on stage at Stratford, Carnegie Hall, Albert Hall and at the Monkland Theatre in Notre Dame de Grace.

And yes, I've gone where no man has gone before...    but I was in Mexico and her father gave me permission!

My name is William Shatner and I...    AM...    CANADIAN!

Little Hawk confessed:

I invented the term "bereftitude" one day whilst composing doggerel on Mudcat, and I have been using it on handy occasions ever since.

As a registered, card-carrying, and practicing pedant, I advise you that the correct word is "berefticity".

Oh, come on... it wasn't THAT bad. I think only Shatner or Adam West has the requisite je ne sais quois to pull off the role of Chairman. It was all in good fun. My only complaint was the requirement to provide 5 dishes. I always like trying to anticipate how many dishes the chefs will complete.
