Subject: RE: Tom Glazer's 'Musical Heritage Of America' From: Gerard Date: 03 Aug 03 - 04:18 PM Wondering if anyone has heard Tom Glazer's "Muscial Heritage of America" series of recordings he did back in 1974 by CBC records. He was teamed up with Dick Weissman. I heard it a few years ago back at the Multnomah Public Library in Portland, Oregon, but they got rid of their records and I moved away. Wondering who I could contact to see if there are any plans for it to be put out on CD some time in the future. |
Subject: RE: Tom Glazer's 'Musical Heritage Of America' From: mack/misophist Date: 03 Aug 03 - 09:45 PM A google search for Tom Glazer's Musical Heritage of America shows that one or two used lp dealers may have copies for sale. He was born in 1914 so he must be dead by now. CBC Records is still in business (if it's the same one) "Tom Glazer" doesn't show up when you search the site but you might try e-mailing them directly to see what they say. |
Subject: RE: Tom Glazer's 'Musical Heritage Of America' From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Aug 03 - 02:09 AM A search at Gracenote/CDDB shows there was a CD from Tom Glazer and Dottie Evans called Space Songs, but that's the only listing for Tom. And, for that matter, is it our Tom? I'd gess so - Tom did lots of things for children. There's also one CD listed for Joe Glazer, called Joe Glazer Sings Labor Songs. I have that one, and it's a good one. Doesn't answer the question, but I thought it might be good to know what's on CD from the Glazers. You'll find a partial discography here (click), but it won't help much. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Tom Glazer's 'Musical Heritage Of America' From: Mark Cohen Date: 04 Aug 03 - 03:06 AM For those who didn't know, Tom Glazer died last February at the age of 83. His son, John, is a child psychiatrist, and is married to one of my fellow interns, whom I just saw at a conference last year, 25 years after residency. Here's a Tom Glazer obituary. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Tom Glazer's 'Musical Heritage Of America' From: Gerard Date: 04 Aug 03 - 02:49 PM I just wanted any Tom Glazer fan to know that his Musical Heritage of America series is really an incredible work. From what I understood when I spoke with Tom back in 1997 was that it was mostly for educational purposes. Dick Weissman is on guitar and banjo and Tom, Mr. Glazer, narrates the story of American History in a very memorable manner. |
