Subject: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: Marc Date: 23 Jul 03 - 11:51 PM Hello there. I realize this is late. But it appears that I must travel to the left hand Portland, for a family function, in the middle of August. Can anyone out there recommend anyplace or anyone, I might contact for a booking, (even for a warm up or opening act) to try to subsidize the cost of the trip. And if not anyone want together for tunes or songs. |
Subject: RE: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: Marc Date: 24 Jul 03 - 12:07 AM See, I knew I had asked this question before. I just couldn't find it in the first search. I've since found the post I made a few months ago, and will now try to follow up on those leads, Thank you. However, any new dope won't hurt. Thank again Marc Bernier I should have signed it last time to. |

Subject: RE: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: silverfish Date: 24 Jul 03 - 08:00 AM Check out the Portland Folklore Society pages - Lots of people, contacts and venues. I hope to be going there early next year to visit relations and meet even more nice folky people (my first trip there since '89). Best of luck |
Subject: RE: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: syren Date: 25 Jul 03 - 04:04 AM Ah well, I am in Portland, Oregon. Yes, thru the Folklore Society...and they do have a webpage....www.portlandfolklore.org. There are dozens of things going on, but as far as getting a gig, good luck! Things are booked for months. There are, however, many open mikes...and jam sessions...and song circles...again, check the website. (And if you are here on a Friday, my band plays in a pub!) And, we gathered a crew of shanty singers when another Mudcatter came to town!(Hi Charlie!) I hope you find some great music while you are here. Check out Artichoke Music, too. |

Subject: RE: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: Marc Date: 25 Jul 03 - 05:34 PM Thanks everybody. Syren, I'll be in Portland from the 14th through the 19th. Is your band playing Fri 15? If so where? I would love to sing some Shanties. Now that I realize that this is 3 weeks away, I'm aware that it's silly to be looking for work. Going to a bar and singing shanties sounds like a perfect idea. |
Subject: RE: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: Amergin Date: 25 Jul 03 - 05:43 PM Syren, which band is yours? and which pub? Marc the url for artichoke is www.artichokemusic.com and i second the thought on PMing Genie.... |
Subject: RE: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: syren Date: 12 Sep 03 - 02:22 AM Hi Marc and Amergin.......I am so sorry that I didn't get back here in time to answer these questions. We actually took most of July off, so were not in the pub when you were here, Marc. But when we do play, we are at the Elephant & Castle on SW 2nd and Washington, downtown at the west end of the Morrison Bridge. The band is called Spinnaker. We will only be there till December and we are then taking a break to do some recording. If anyone is in the vicinity on the 19th of Sept., it is National Talk Like a Pirate Day...a Friday and we are planning on a big party. Costumes encouraged! And then, since Halloween is on a Friday, also, we will have a big costume bash for that. Okey, Commercial plug is over. I really must stop in here more often; life just gets on the way, sometimes. But I will try to be more reliable. |
Subject: RE: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: Charley Noble Date: 12 Sep 03 - 09:00 AM Syren- I'll look forward to your new recording, and give my best to the rest of the gang at the Elephant & Castle. Roll & Go will also be working on a new recording this winter. Maybe we can work out an exchange, CD's at ten paces! My next foray takes me to Oz in November if you'd like to sift through that thread. Nice folks down there as well. I think you'd have fun with them. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: syren Date: 15 Sep 03 - 12:50 AM Hey Cahrlie! Have a great time in Oz.....I will be singing with Tom Lewis in Seattle on the 1st...I will have a Spinnaker cd with your name on it..but it may be awhile. Let us know when you are back this way! |
Subject: RE: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: Charley Noble Date: 15 Sep 03 - 12:03 PM Syren- You'll have fun singing with Tom Lewis. Give him my best from Maine, and be sure to ask him to sing "You Can't be a Pirate with All Your Parts." Best to Jonathan Lay and the gang, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: Amergin Date: 15 Sep 03 - 10:51 PM Hey, Syren...i'll try to make one of your shows...though it looks like it will be the Halloween one... it sounds fun! I'll probably come as an Office Worker...(pretty exciting eh?) does the Elephant and Castle have a website to keep people abreast of shows? How about Spinnaker? |
Subject: RE: Any mudcats in Portland Ore. From: GUEST,Skipjack K8 Date: 16 Sep 03 - 08:00 AM I'm sure our mate Linda Matson lives in or near Portland. She came over to Blighty for the seminal Llanstock in 2000, and took large quantities of rock home in her suitcase. I know, I tried to lift it. |
