I'm looking for background information on the song, "My Rock" by Claude Hensley and Don F Bryant (listen HERE). We're doing a gospel service at church next week and Preacher wants to know the song's origins!
Thanks,
Allison

Lyrics are HERE, with audio sample.
       MY ROCK
(Paul Overstreet & Doug Stone)

My rock, my shield
My Jesus, he is real
I can feel him
Deep within my soul
One day he saved my soul
And he made me free and whole,
My Lord he is real
I can feel him in my soul

One night I repented
I got down on my bended knees
I cried Lord have mercy
Won't you save my soul from sin
Now I'm walkin' but not alone
Cause I'm headin straight for home
My Lord he is real
I can feel him in my soul

REPEAT CHORUS

Come to Jesus and repent
Get your feet on the solid rock
He's the one that can help you
He will hear you when you cry
Yes it's Jesus he's my savoir
He is my friend and my faithful guide
My Lord he is real
And he will Lead you to the other side

REPEAT CHORUS

My Lord he is real
I can feel him in my soul
Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver sang this on Heavenly Treasures [with sound clip].

The lyrics page linked to above says Paul Overstreet & Doug Stone (only Overstreet's name is given here) wrote it. It is included at Paul Overstreet Lyrics. Here's info from BMI.

This thread is old, but if anyone is still wanting this information, contact Narsie Harvey or Bradey Bryant, sister and brother to Don Bryant, or Dorothy Collins, sister to Claude Hensley. All three live at Verdunville, WV and would have p/s numbers listed in the Logan, WV telephone book. Narsie's would be listed in Darrell, her husband's name, and Dorothy's, probably Elbert Jr., her husband. Don and Claude have both passed, both were excellent singers and they wrote the song in the early 1960's as they were returhing home after attending a revival. Don recorded music with his family and friends up into the late 1990's, I probably have over 100 songs of Don singing with his brothers and sisters, that have been transfered to cd.(including "My Rock")
