AUNTIE ALICE

In the little church on the village green, I vowed my life away,
Followed by a little gathering for those who wished to stay.
Everyone who came brought us something good to build our happy home,
But a certain something caught my eye; it stood out on its own,
      On its own...

CHORUS: Auntie Alice brought us this; Auntie Alice brought us this,
Not too late, not too soon; press it in the middle, it'll play a tune.
Auntie Alice brought us this; Auntie Alice brought us this.
We got a clock from Uncle Wilberforce, but Auntie Alice brought us this.

When the Vicar stood up for his speech there was not one eye on him,
Everybody waiting anxiously for Auntie to come in,
And my pretty wife, who was full of strife, she said it wasn't fair
That our wedding-day was runner-up to that thing over there,
      Over there... CHORUS

When we left the town on our honeymoon to an island far away,
Everything was good, and I felt we could have stayed and stayed and stayed,
Walking in the sand, swimming in the sea, or lazing in the sun,
But when the evening came there were better ways of joining in the fun,
      In the fun...

Yup, Sorcha, band names just aren't what they used to was. Hogsnort Rupert was going back in the 60s. At that time I had a mate who caught wild 'Captain Cooker' piglets in the bush, and bring them back so we could fatten 'em for eating. We grew quite attached to them, and couldn't do the slaughtering and butchering ourselves, though we did eat the meat {somewhat guiltily}.

The first was Hogsnort (named for the band}, then Hogface, Hoglet etc..

Cheers - Sam

Hog = "Pig", Snort = "Grunt" - quite civilised really Sorch, but I'm sure you can find something piggish in it. **VBG**. My mind is boggling at the hilarious "Uniform" connotations you Yanks can make from the above.

I went out and gave Billy a big cuddle from you. He needed it, he's tired. He's been out on the road TWICE this afternoon. Unheard of for mid-winter, t'was his first trips in a couple of months. I did real well, despite gaving the 'punters' a 25% discount (t'was "cash in hand"). Appropriate music on the wireless right now Gene Kelly's I'm Singing in the Rain (and it was).

Guess you're in bed now, it's the best place for 'good' girls.

Shucks, now we're getting I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls

LOL - Sam

Did a random study on this in college - even in interviews they wouldn't reveal what it was Auntie Alice bought them - said it was better left to the imagination

I remember a quote about John Renbourn being in band called Rupert Hogsnort and his Porkestra. before he helped form Pentangle. It was on the back cover of his first music book, put out when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
