Subject: RE: LYR REQ: Gold Miners' Songs (American) From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 20 Apr 02 - 10:58 AM I've been wondering about the time source of The Dirty (Lousy) Miner. I sing it and enjoy it, and I'd like to be able to introduce it as being from whatever gold rush is appropriate. Does anybody know? Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gold Miners' Songs (American) From: GUEST,Micah Date: 09 Jul 20 - 02:21 PM Here's Robert Service's poem: The Man From El Dorado, set to music, sung by David Parry: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHbxAHrKTiAtwi1-p7oakFQ I'd heard it on an audio cassette I'd found years ago and it was hard to track it down again because I'd forgotten the name, and it's quite obscure. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gold Miners' Songs (American) From: cnd Date: 09 Jul 20 - 08:28 PM I'm surprised I didn't realize more of Service's poems had been turned to songs. I found a copy of Service's book Ballads of a Cheechako (I can't remember how I got it, but I read it only recently) and was surprised more weren't turned into songs. Service wrote poems in a very structured, metered style that makes implementation to song easier than a lot of modern poetic works. You can read it online, now, here: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/259/259-h/259-h.htm |
