Subject: Southwest Regional Folk Alliance 2004 From: JedMarum Date: 21 Aug 03 - 11:28 PM Are any Mudcatters going to make the SWRFA meeting in Austin (Sept 4-7)? I am hopeful this will be a worthwhile event. I also hope to say hello to any Mudcatters who are planning to attend, maybe we can organize an impromptu Mudcatter session! |
Subject: RE: Southwest Regional Folk Alliance 2004 From: JedMarum Date: 21 Aug 03 - 11:32 PM 2004??? HA - just checking to see who was listening! Actually, it shows what I've been up to lately; I spent the day working on bookings for 2004. I expect I'll spend quite a few more days at it! NO - not 2004, I mean 2003. |
Subject: RE: Southwest Regional Folk Alliance 2004 From: Desert Dancer Date: 22 Aug 03 - 12:09 AM Sorry, Texas was only southwest before the Gasden Purchase. Too far for me. ;-) Good thing the 2004 national will be in SAN DIEGO. ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: Southwest Regional Folk Alliance 2004 From: JedMarum Date: 22 Aug 03 - 09:46 AM Since I've moved to Texas, I've learned that Southwest is code for Texas. Go figure! Now if we were talking Sou CA, AZ - it'd make sense, but Texas?? Almost midwest, isn't it? 'Course maybe that's the problem. It extends damn near from the Mississippi to the west coast! ;-) |
Subject: RE: Southwest Regional Folk Alliance 2004 From: Alaska Mike Date: 22 Aug 03 - 09:59 AM The whole "Lower 48" is southEAST from Alaska. Hope "Yall" have lots of fun. Mike |
Subject: RE: Southwest Regional Folk Alliance 2004 From: Alaska Mike Date: 22 Aug 03 - 10:46 AM And by the way, Jed, Texas ain't so big. If Alaska were split in half Texas would be the third largest state. If you superimposed Alaska onto the lower 48, it would stretch clear across from SE Georgia to 100 miles out past the Golden Gate Bridge. There are times when I wish I was a little closer to some of the good music get togethers down there. Ah well, retirement approaches slowly then it will be "Old Farts in Motorhome Parks" for me and the Mrs. Best wishes, Mike |
Subject: RE: Southwest Regional Folk Alliance 2004 From: JedMarum Date: 22 Aug 03 - 05:45 PM LOL, Mike! I know, I can't talk about Texas when compared to Alaksa - but being a noy from New England, I sure am impressed with how big it is ... even if it smaller then Alaska! |
Subject: RE: Southwest Regional Folk Alliance 2004 From: GUEST,mooseman Date: 22 Aug 03 - 07:20 PM BTW Jed, I have enjoyed your song "Ellen Joyce" for the last couple years. I need to get one of your CD's and see if there's anything else I can "approriate" for my own nefarious uses. Its a great song and Seamus sings it pretty good, too. Mike |
Subject: RE: Southwest Regional Folk Alliance 2004 From: JedMarum Date: 22 Aug 03 - 09:19 PM Seamus did a fine job of it! Actually you get to my stuff on-line free at wholewheatradio.com - they're up your way, and have lots of show where you can request whatever you want. They have two of my CDs and they both get a little bit of web-based airplay. |
Subject: RE: Southwest Regional Folk Alliance 2004 From: artbrooks Date: 23 Aug 03 - 07:20 AM Well, I drove all the way across the damn place (each way) in the last week...one thing I noticed was that shorts, t-shirts and sandals were normal wear here in New Mexico, and in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, but it appeared that everyone in Texas was wearing Levis and boots! We did SWFA several years ago, but don't really plan on it again, although there is some good folk dancing there. Austin in August/September...yukk! |
Subject: RE: Southwest Regional Folk Alliance 2004 From: JedMarum Date: 23 Aug 03 - 04:43 PM well, artbrooks, this transplanted Texan will be wearing tee shirts, shorts and sandles! I live in Dallas these days, and I know what you mean about Levis and boots, but I lived n Houston long enough to know better; when it's hot as hell, ya just gotta dress for it! |
