Zorro,

I've got the lyrics to "Big Boss Man" around somewhere and will try to dig them out this weekend. Meanwhile, here's a URL for one Grand-daddy of a blues-links site that you'll probably find useful and interesting:

http://www.blues-link.com/links.html

(I just came from there, so I know it's a live URL)

Good luck

Subject: Lyr Add: BIG BOSS MAN (from Jimmy Reed)
From: Jim Dixon

BIG BOSS MAN was written by Luther Dixon and Al Smith. Lots of people have recorded it: Eric Clapton, The Grateful Dead, John Hammond Jr., Sleepy LaBeef, Jerry Lee Lewis, Mance Lipscomb, The Steve Miller Band, Tom Petty, Elvis Presley, Jimmy Reed, Charlie Rich, Koko Taylor, Johnny Winter, Jimmy Witherspoon, and many others.

There are many copies of the lyrics on the Internet. They vary somewhat according to whose recording they were transcribed from. The following lyrics are supposed to be from Jimmy Reed, and they are fairly typical. Copied from http://www.harptab.com/lyrics/ly3722.shtml :

BIG BOSS MAN
(Al Smith, Luther Dixon)

Big boss man, can't you hear me when I call?
Big boss man, can't you hear me when I call?
Well, you ain't so big. You're just tall, that's all.

Got me working, boss man, working 'round the clock.
I want me a drink of water, but you won't let Jimmy stop.
Big boss man, can't you hear me when I call?
Well, you ain't so big. You're just tall, that's all.

Well, I'm gonna get me a boss man, one gonna treat me right,
Work hard in the daytime, rest easy at night.
Big boss man, can't you hear me when I call?
Well, you ain't so big. You're just tall, that's all.

Blues Lyrics - Jimmy Reed
Going To New York

by
Jimmy Reed
Mary Lee Reed
recording of 1958
from
Rockin' with Reed (Charly 285
)
Goin' to New York, get on the New York quiz show
Gotta win myself some all o' that dough
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' if I have to walk
I been down South
You know I been out East
I been out West, but I'm not gonna rest
'Til I get to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin to New York
I'm goin' if I have to walk
I've been here, I've been there
Honey, I been some a-everywhere
But I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' to New York
I'm goin' if I have to walk
