Subject: Winter sing Buntingford 14/16.11.0314/16 N From: harlowpoet Date: 16 Sep 03 - 03:02 AM There's going to be an eighth winter sing at the Crown Pub, Buntingford Hertfordshire on the weekend of 14-16 November 2003. This is a fun get together, with song sessions based on informal themes.Poets and storytellers are also made welcome. It kicks off Friday around about 8 o'clock(pm) I'm not the organiser, but I thought it deserved a plug. Indoor camping is available in the local scout hut, and the hosts of the pub are friendly, and open early for breakfast. For more information on this, give us an email at harlowpoet@talk21.com Cheers Simon Regards Simon |

Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 16 Sep 03 - 07:36 PM A great weekend. (Even if I did get my car rather dented by the local yobs when I left it in the wrong place two years ago...) |

Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: harlowpoet Date: 23 Sep 03 - 12:38 PM Thought I'd refresh this little thread. The H in the title thread was meant to have read Herts. I was a bit hungover and it was early in the day when I posted it. Simon |
Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 23 Sep 03 - 12:48 PM Which is in England. Well, there might be a Buntingford in some far flung corner of the world... |
Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: jacqui c Date: 23 Sep 03 - 05:30 PM There could only be one Buntingford - couldn't there? |

Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford 14/16 Nov 2003 From: harlowpoet Date: 11 Oct 03 - 02:46 AM Time for a bit of refresh on this one I think. If anyones interested, theres actually a regular bus from Stanstead Airport that goes through Buntingford every hour, and two hourly on Sundays, so its really quite acccessible. |
Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: Herga Kitty Date: 11 Oct 03 - 07:09 AM Kevin Some clarification of right and wrong places to park might be helpful! |
Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 Oct 03 - 07:30 AM The main car park a couple of hundred yards from the Crown is probably safe enough. My mistake was parking outside the enclosed car parking spaces next to the Scout Hut in a small car park used by local mini-yobs for hanging out, since it's out of sight from any of the houses where they probably live. No danger of Mummy and Daddy coming out and telling them they are naughty little boys. |
Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 11 Oct 03 - 08:55 AM The municipal building next door has car park and is not in use evenings and weeends. Ignore the signs and park. The blue Proton will be mine. Keith. |
Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford 14/16 Nov 2003 From: harlowpoet Date: 21 Oct 03 - 03:07 AM Time for another refresh on this thread I suppose. Sessions are free, Indoor campings only a fiver. Where else could you go for such a cheap weekend? |
Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: Lanfranc Date: 21 Oct 03 - 06:41 AM I'll be there, all being well, at least on the Saturday (Sundays are usually spent at my Sailing Club, unless the weather is truly foul!). Last year we just parked outside the pub! The grub at the Crown is pretty good, and inexpensive, and the beer was decent, too. Add to that pleasant company and good music, and what more could one ask? Alan |

Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: Herga Kitty Date: 22 Oct 03 - 07:45 PM Lanfranc I think you can park outside the pub in the evening, but not during the day on Saturday. Or if you can, only for a limited period, which is shorter than the session. |

I'm not sure of the plane times, but if you hop off a plane at Stanstead, and jump onto the next 700 bus to Stevenage, get off at the Crown and there'll be singing'n'music |

Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: harlowpoet Date: 13 Nov 03 - 02:37 AM Yhe scout hut usually has a few spaces for cars etc. I understand the scouts meet there on a friday so we can't go in the hut till later. Mcgrath of Harlow might be better placed to advise you, as he parks there himself usually |
Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: Julie B Date: 13 Nov 03 - 02:06 PM Haven't been before but I'm planning to come down on Saturday. Is it all unaccompanied singing, or should I bring my guitar? Julie |
Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: Keith A of Hertford Date: 13 Nov 03 - 03:02 PM Please bring your guitar. It is a very mixed gathering. |
Subject: RE: Winter sing Buntingford H14/16 Nov 2003 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 13 Nov 03 - 03:41 PM The Scout Hut has a lockable enclosed area with steel fencing, and if you can get a caravan in there, it should be OK. Just don't leave it in the open car park by the Scout Hut, because that's where I had ny car kicked in. But I'd think you'd probably be all right in the main town car park. I still haven't got my voice back, such as it is, from a snorter of a cold I've had. It had me conpletely mute at one point. I'd open my mouth and not a whisper. Some would say that's an improvement. Anyway, I think I might well have to give it a miss this year. Guitars, squeeze boxes - never any hang-ups about that kind of stuff. Even banjos and bodhrans are welcome. |
