I wish I was closer to Kansas! Jim was kind enough to send me a CD last year and I've been playing it on my radio show on WFDU-FM - www.wfdu.fm (another example of shameless self promotion on my part!!). Great music from Jim!

Any relation to the Krauses in Newport RI? The whole family is muswically talented and have a band called "Sea Journey" (Rock Band)The fatherused to play drums with them but was replaced by a younger Krause.
I'm just nosy, I guess, they were my next door neighbor for a long time.

Jody

Greetings to my friends in the New York metro area!

Please hold this date: Saturday, January 17, 2004.

That's when I'll be appearing at the Peoples' Voice Cafe in New York City for the first time in two years. I do not yet know who the other act is, and I certainly can't tell you at this point whether I'll be on first or second. But I can tell you this: the show starts at 8:00 PM, only a really major snowstorm would force a cancellation, and you'll have a wonderful time. I'll have some of my comrades-in-song from MacDougal Street Rent Party and from the Woody Guthrie Birthday Bash helping me out with several of the numbers, and as always, the audience is welcome to sing along, clap, and holler.

For those who don't already know, the Peoples' Voice Cafe is located at the Workmen's Circle building at 45 East 33rd Street in midtown Manhattan. That's between Park and Madison Avenues. General admission is $10. Peoples' Voice Cafe or Workmen's Circle members pay just $7. And there is also a special $5 admission for seniors, workers on strike, and folks otherwise "up against the machine." For more information, check out the Peoples' Voice Cafe website:

http://www.peoplesvoicecafe.org/

You are also more than welcome to take a peek at my own website:

Be there!

Jody,
They don't sound familiar. I'd have to know a little more about them. My folks settled in Marion County, KS in 1874. Most branches of the family stayed around the central Kansas area until WWI. By then one branch had moved to Mountain Lake, MN, another to Oklahoma, and yet another to Canada to escape the American draft.
My Great-grandmother, Susanna Reimer-Krause was the preacher's wife, and she insisted that the family name rhymed with drowsy, not Krauss as in Alison, who's no relation. If your friends can trace their ancestry to the Alexanderwohl Colony in the Ukraine, then they probably are related.

Final refresh this time around. This thread is called Shameless Self-Promotion, so what you see is what you get!

Appearing at the Peoples' Voice Cafe in New York City...

The Not-So-Odd Couple

LYDIA ADAMS DAVIS
Singer-Songwriter

and

STEVE SUFFET
Old-Fashioned Folksinger

Saturday • January 17, 2004 • 8:00 PM

Said he: "I received your cassette tape Monday and I have been enjoying it since."

Said she: "Glad you like the tape.... Take away the lush instrumentation, somewhat busy arrangements and country songs on my album and you will see our sensibilities are not that different."

Said he: "Our musical sensibilities may be similar, but you have a much nicer voice."

Said she: "Thanks. I hear a Woody G. quality to your voice which I like very much."

Said he: "For too many years I was a Woody wannabe, musically, that is, and I'm afraid it still shows. Please kick me hard if I start spouting Okie aphorisms!"

Could this be the beginning of a beautiful musical friendship? Or is it just witty banter? Come see how this drama plays out and help Lydia and Steve prove to the house that, yes, they can fill seats on a dark and cold winter night.

Peoples' Voice Cafe
at the Workmen's Circle
45 East 33rd Street
Just west of Park Avenue
Midtown Manhattan, New York

General admission: $10.
PVC or WC member: $7.
Seniors, on strike, or up against the machine: $5.
TDF vouchers accepted.

Even at the top admission, it's still a cheap night out in the Big Apple.

Delicious and reasonably healthy snacks will be available at ridiculously low prices.

Take note: Steve will be accompanied by unindicted coconspirators from the MacDougal Street Rent Party and from the Woody Guthrie Birthday Bash. Please feel free to sing along, unless he tells you otherwise, which he will very rarely, if ever, do. Kazoos, spoons, jugs, and Jew's harps are welcome, provided you really know how to play them.

Be there!

--- Steve
