Subject: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: dagenham doc Date: 08 Oct 03 - 02:56 AM Without any help from me, my page layout for Mudcat has changed. The messages now seem to run down the centre of the page like a poem and the text is really small. I have tried changing the size of course but no good.Same thing applies if I go into "lyrics" the layout and text size has changed. My eyes are bad enough as it is .....!!!Pleeesse... any ideas. Subject: RE: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Oct 03 - 03:22 AM That's a new one on me, Doc. Do other sites seem go work OK? Take a look at our Help forum (click) and let us know whether that looks normal to you. I imagine the problem is a setting on your browser. Which browser do you use? Have you changed browsers recently? -Joe Offer- joe@mudcat.org |
Subject: RE: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: dermod in salisbury Date: 08 Oct 03 - 05:23 AM I have a similar problem, having just upgraded to IE6. Suddenly all the text is twice the size, not to mention all the old e-mails which lay in Outlook Express vanishing. I can live with it, though. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: dagenham doc Date: 08 Oct 03 - 07:48 PM Thanks for the suggestion Joe. When i look at the help page everything below the line that says Topic Name Messages Last Message is in the smallest text, yet all above is normal. No matter if i go up and change the text setting it makes no difference. In additiion as i write this out on my "reply to thread space" even this text has changed. The page layout as i mentioned, looks like a set of lyrics or a poem. i use I.E.and have never had any trouble before. As someone said ... i can live with it i suppose but i don't know if my eyes can. Doc i've just had a look at the preview and it comes up as normal, but when posted it's back to the small print and the strange page layout. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: dagenham doc Date: 08 Oct 03 - 07:56 PM i have just had another look...it'ls driving me mad really!!.... All the posting names, dates and times are in the correct text, as are the words Post - Top - Forum Home - Printer Friendly - Translate .. for ex .the message you posted has the smallest print from 'SUBJECT down to joe@mudcat.org.it's got me stumped. Subject: RE: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: Burke Date: 08 Oct 03 - 08:30 PM If you look at the Source Code the area between the HR's that make the lines before and after each message are each separate tables. The table is set to 100% so it should display just fine. Sounds like theres a problem with it the way your brower is reading the tables, but that's as far as I know anything. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 08 Oct 03 - 08:42 PM What version of IE are you using? Have you allowed it to upgrade itself recently? (This can cause problems, as the software is so poorly thought-out). Mudcat uses relative, not absolute, font definitions; so as a rule any problems are likely to be at your end. If in doubt, blame Microsoft; you will not be far wrong. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: Bill D Date: 08 Oct 03 - 09:30 PM In 'most' browsers, it is possible to set font(text) size separately for headers, body..etc...IE doesn't seem to do this, but try under 'view'/'text size' and see if changing that setting to a larger size helps. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: Burke Date: 08 Oct 03 - 10:01 PM Have you tried the old MS trick, restart your machine? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: dagenham doc Date: 09 Oct 03 - 03:20 AM Malcolm Douglas says"If in doubt, blame Microsoft; you will not be far wrong." ..... I think that is the way to go. Thanks all for your help and suggestions... now where is that phone book....here we are..E..F..G Gates, Bill Gates.... Doc |
Subject: RE: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: Bill D Date: 09 Oct 03 - 12:13 PM The way to go if 'ol Bill G don't answer his phone, is a different browser *grin* You can get to stuff without IE, and avoid most problems. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Help I Can't get my old text back From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 09 Oct 03 - 12:19 PM I suggest you try another browser. Go to www.netscape.com and download Netscape 7.1 (it's free), and see what you get. Dave Oesterreich |
