Subject: Lyr Req: And I'll sing alleluia... From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 12 Nov 03 - 07:54 AM The chorus goes, And I'll sing Alleluia, And you'll sing Alleluia, And we'll all sing Alleluia, When we arrive at home. It was sung at the celebration reception following Byron's funeral. It's been on my mind ever since. Anyone got the verses? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: And I'll sing alleluia... From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 12 Nov 03 - 10:50 AM I actually have a different tune; I'm wondering if my morris dance friends have more secular lyrics than these with the same chorus. I'll check. BTAIM, I still like these lyrics! Thanks again. a |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: And I'll sing alleluia... From: wysiwyg Date: 12 Nov 03 - 11:07 AM :~) The "tenor" part has the melody in most if not all Sacred Harp music. Maybe-- check the MIDI and isolate the tracks till you hear what you reckanize? ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: And I'll sing alleluia... From: GUEST,TNDARLN Date: 12 Nov 03 - 06:13 PM 146 in the Sacred Harp. Try singing the words to Amazing Grace on the verse, and then the refrain as written. A lot of the older singers do it this way. -T |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: And I'll sing alleluia... From: Burke Date: 12 Nov 03 - 07:12 PM TNDARLN you beat me to it. Where have you been? I actually like the pairing of Amazing Grace with this tune better than the usual tune for AG or the words for Hallelujah. |
Subject: LYR ADD And I'll sing alleluia... From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 15 Nov 03 - 07:55 PM I finally got these words from a morris dancer friend. They're by Ian Robb: Farewell old friend, it's time to go You must be on your way Do not let the parting grieve you so Though dreary seems the day Chorus: And I'll sing Alleluia, And you'll sing Alleluia, And we'll all sing Alleluia When we arrive at home No saint you were while on this earth You trod your path so wide For saints do seldom venture forth For fear they stray aside. CHO If God there be some Pharisee Of unforgiving ways You must look for him for you must seek To brighten up his days CHO And when at Peter's gate you stand With sins of flesh and wine One son of his will take your hand And lead you in to dine CHO For friends may join and friends may part And friends be born and die Each song remains within the heart Each spirit ever nigh CHO |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: And I'll sing alleluia... From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 18 Jan 04 - 01:19 PM Got a nice note from Ian Robb- it isn't on cd, it's on an older recording titled Rose and Crown. There are just a few copies of the cassette left. I got mine from Folk Legacy. It has some great songs, some dated ones, but it's fun to hear young Ian sing! And the last song is the secular version of Halleluia, which Ian calls "Singer's Farewell". Allison |
