Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: harpgirl Date: 05 Oct 98 - 01:09 PM Max, Thanks for your diligent work. I have missed the Mudcat for four days as well...harpgirl |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Max Date: 05 Oct 98 - 12:37 PM We had a great big crash that has made my life hell for the last 4 days and will probably continue to do so for a week or so. Sorry. We have no real explanation either. May have been a hacker, may have been Bill Gates, we don't know. Things should work sufficiently now, but we will be shaky for the next week or two. Hang in there. |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Barbara Shaw Date: 05 Oct 98 - 12:37 PM Never mind. Just read your Crash, Down goes the Mudcat thread, which you were posting at the same time I was asking. How about a message on the main page telling us that something is wrong if that should happen again? Is there anything we can do to help? |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Barbara Shaw Date: 05 Oct 98 - 12:33 PM Max, I thought the system was down since last Thursday. Wasn't able to get on with either Netscape or Explorer. What happened? |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Date: 05 Oct 98 - 06:05 AM Hi Max, Haven't been able to get on here since last Thursday, using Internet explorer. Have got here using Netscape but it's pretty useless. Only let's me into one or two threads. Slainte alison |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Dale Rose Date: 04 Oct 98 - 01:04 PM I have not been able to log on for days, with several different error messages, none of which meant anything to me. Then Gene says to turn my cookies off, and I got here on the first try. He says he can't get here no matter what he does or doesn't do. I was surprised that there were as many messages as there were, figuring that everyone was having the same problem. |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Stacy Date: 02 Oct 98 - 10:39 PM Hi gang, Joe, I also was not able to get through using IE, but could on Netscape. interesting..... Stacy |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Oct 98 - 01:30 PM Say, Max, is something weird happening with Mudcat? I can't get on at all with MS Internet Explorer, where my cookie is located - I keep getting timeout messages. I can get on with Netscape (without cookies), but it's sluggish. I think others must be having trouble, too, since there aren't many new messages posted. It was like this all day Thursday, too. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Paul Date: 21 Sep 98 - 04:43 PM Being Canadian and having a small command of the French language (OK, a couple years in public school), I feel that I should correct you, Joe. Wasn't the whole Monica and Bill thing more of a tete-a-bouche (sorry, can't do any accents on my keyboard). If it was JUST tete-a-tete, nobody would have paid anywhere NEAR this much attention. |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Sep 98 - 03:11 PM Gee, the 'Cat is slow this morning. The Internet Traffis Report gives the U.S. a rating of 34 out of 100, and going down. I thinks that's lower than when the Starr report was relesed. What's the deal. A new tête-à-tête for Monica and Bill? My, they make such a nice couple.... -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Sep 98 - 04:42 AM Yeah, Jenny, I looked. I got it from my local newspaper's Web site, and it didn't take any time at all to download it. I didn't save it, though. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Jenny Date: 11 Sep 98 - 08:57 PM Joe, that makes sense, too ... did you have the chutzpa to download the "fornigate" stuff? jenny |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Joe Offer Date: 11 Sep 98 - 01:53 PM Right now, the Internet traffic report for the U.S. is 39 out of 100, and moving down. They predicted a traffic jam today because of the release of the investigative report on Clinton. It's gonna be a slow day on the old 'Cat today.... -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Max Date: 11 Sep 98 - 01:36 PM Barbara, that is in the works. We are doing a whole lot of things now to create a failsafe to the Mudcat. We are planning to have a great many improvements to the mudcat and forum on Oct 1st which happens to be the 2 year aniversary of the forum. Yours truly posted the first message in the Mudcat forum on Oct 1st, 1996. So we'll have a party and debut the new changes then. Till then, hang in there and if you get an error, just try back in a short while. |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Barbara Shaw Date: 11 Sep 98 - 12:47 PM Max, maybe some of the slowness problem is because of the SNET strike and problems with capacity on snet.net? One suggestion that would help us when waiting to get on mudcat or when locked out completely: How about a message on the mudcat.org home page telling us when the forum is down? That way we would know it was not something we did. |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Bill D Date: 10 Sep 98 - 11:50 PM if you want to follow this sort of thing, try this site it can sometimes shed soem light on what is happening |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Bill D Date: 10 Sep 98 - 11:47 PM there are things called 'routers' that occasionally get tangled....resulting in slowdowns in certain areas...I had some thing VERY slow, and others about normal...depending on what 'route' they had to take to get to me...just like the highway system.. |
Subject: RE: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Dale Rose Date: 10 Sep 98 - 10:00 PM I have had extremely slow conditions everywhere for a couple of days now. My first thought was artelco (Arkansas Telephone Company) but now I think it is more than that. In a way, I am glad to hear that Jenny is having trouble too. Now I can stop worrying so much about my new computer! |
Subject: MAX ... WHY SO SLOW? From: Jenny Date: 10 Sep 98 - 09:34 PM Max ... what's doing? The Mudcat is really, really slow tonight ... I thought I was going to have to click on STOP ... Is it me or the server? Jenny |
