Ship's Company is sponsoring another Chantey sing! At the Wharf Rat Pub in the historic Fells Point section of Baltimore MD. For you lovers of the TV drama "Homicide", this is one block from the building that served as the Baltimore Police HQ in the show. The Wharf Rat has a uniquie atomosphere. There not trying to emulate a wharf side bar, they ARE a wharf side bar! Drop by, sing a chantey, request a chantey or just enjoy! Next September my wife is organizing a nationwide meeting of legislative staff people in Baltimore and I get to come along and have great fun, and shanty sings are one of my delights. Remind her about my referral fee! ;-) Our Chantey Sings are in a sing-around fashion, a leader will point the fickle finger of chantey fate at the next victim, they can sing, request a chantey or take a pass. At the Royal Mile sing, we get about 2 laps around the room in 2 hours. At Fells Point and Annapolis we get a few more opportunities to embarrass ourselves >;-) |

I have encountered websites before that have been out of date and have no wish to refer someone who might book the group for a special event to a "black hole." On a personal level I look forward to attending at least one of your chanty/shanty swaps in either Baltimore or Annapolis. Would you mind identifying what periodic time they occur each month? For a good time you should really journey north and attend the Press Room Shanty Swap in Portsmouth, NH, which happens every 3rd Saturday from 3:30 to 7:30 pm. See, that was so hard! However, does anyone want to gather at the Wharf Rat for a more informal chantey swap on the 4th Wednesday, September 22nd at the usual time? I'll be in the Baltimore/Annapolis area from 9/22 to 9/28 if an alternative evening would work out better but 9/23 and 9/26 are spoken for. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
