Subject: Lyr Add: wassail verses From: GUEST,anais Date: 10 Dec 03 - 08:04 PM i'm not sure if it's ethical, but i'm a college student/ballad singer short on cash and in dire need of money for plane tickets to the dance flurry in in saratoga this february. its a sin to miss it, and the idea of singing door-to-door for spare change at least seems feasible (and a break from cleaning hotel rooms.) this is not a post on ethics, if you think this is rude i don't want to know. what i am in search of are more verses to a particular song, the wassail sung by robin williamson and his merry band on "farewell concert at mccabe's", the one that goes: wassail, wassail allover the town our toast it is white and our ale it is brown our bowl it is made of the white maple tree and so is our malt of the best barley there is one verse about the great dog of longport who had a long tail and another about an old man who had an old cow, but a few more wouldn't do me any harm, if you've got any in you arsenal. if i am committing some greivous crime against traditional music, fine, hurl rotten crabapples at me. or lyrics. danke. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: wassail verses From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 10 Dec 03 - 08:14 PM I don't quite understand your defensiveness. "Grievous crime"? What is all that about? The onsite search engine will find you additional verses to your heart's content, I think, if you give it a few useful phrases to look for. dog of langport, for instance, will get you several leads on which you can usefully build; and there are many more. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: wassail verses From: Trevor Date: 10 Dec 03 - 08:18 PM Dog of langport - leads - tee hee, very good Malcolm!! Isn't the verse you mention from 'The Gloucestershire Wassail'? Have a look in the search engine for that. |
