"It's been a long time since I've seen the old home place." Anyone know about this song? Who did it? Who wrote it? Am asking on behalf of an older gal who remembers it from her youth.

Hmmm. I couldn't find it anywhere, but yet it really sounds familiar. Can anybody come up with lyrics for this one? I'll send e-mail to Dale & Gene.
Here's a little more infromation I got from Brucie:
She first heard it about 30 years ago.
Was a country and western song.
She heard it on the radio in Alberta.
    The singer was a male.
I know I've heard this one - but where???

How about Bluegrass? I found this one from Old Home Place

Old Home Place
Mitch Jayne

It's been ten long years since I left my home
In the hollow where I was born
Where the cool fall nights make the wood smoke rise
And the foxhunter blows his horn

I fell in love with a girl from the town
I thought that she would be true
I ran away to Charlottesville
And worked in a sawmill or two

What have they done to the old home place
Why did they tear it down
And why did I leave the plow in the field
And look for a job in the town

Well my girl she ran off with somebody else
The taverns took all my pay
And here I stand where the old home stood
Before they took it away

Now the geese they fly south and the cold wind blows
As I stand here and hang my head
I've lost my love I've lost my home
And now I wish that I was dead

From Old Home Place of Mine

OLD HOME PLACE OF MINE

There's a place in old Kentucky where I'm longing to be
Where the bluegrass is growing so fine
Where the dogwoods are in bloom in the mountains so high
Around that old home place of mine

Oh the bluegrass is growing in the valley
And the birds are singing in the trees
That's where I want to go when I leave this world below
It's home sweet home to me

Oh the good time I had playin' as a lad
They often enter my mind
Oh how long my heart did grive that day I had to leave
That dear old home place of mine

I remember Dad and Mom sitting there all alone
That day I left them behind
Oh how my heart does yearn for the day when I'll return
Back to that old home place of mine

The only one I could think of at the moment was the first one George gave, first performed by the Dillards, of course. I think Dean Webb is listed on the credits as well, though I don't have the album right in front of me.

It's not all that old though, early sixties, I'd say.

And of course, early 60s is MORE than 30 years ago. As you get older, perspective of what constitutes long ago changes. (hadn't paid enough attention to Joe's additional information)
