I would just like tell you about a new CD my Choir has just made. I would like to have a little crow about it as it is a GREAT CD. (But then I would say that, wouldn't I?) It's kinda folksy (There are no singing animals!)

The Nottingham Clarion Choir is a mixed gender group of 30 members singing without instrumental accommpanyment, international songs associated with the struggles of working and under privelidged people. They would perhaps say they were a "socialist" choir

This professionally produced recording not only reflects this ethos, but delivers some wonderful sounds in SATB arrangement.

Song List:-
Siyahamba (South African)

Not In My Name (Mal Finch/John Hamilton)

Factory (Bruce Springstien)

Ndoda (South African)

Deportees (Woodie Guthry -adapted)

Bread and Roses (James Oppenheim)

Something Inside So Strong (Labi Siffre)

Senzenina (South African)

WTO (Cole Porter - adapted)

24/7 (Lester Simpson)

Buddy Can You Spare A Dime (Gorney/Harburg - adapted)

Another Train (Pete Moreton)

Hamba Kahle (South African)

Weltkulturkuchen (International)

We Are Almost Home -spiritual medley

I am only one thirtieth part of this outfit, but I am very proud to be associated with this group. The sound they make is remarkably good, (very evocative, IMHO) due in no small part to the efforts of musical director Bromwyn Westacott
I give particular credit to the ladies of the Choir, they sound decidedly angelic!

PM me if any wants any further info

I have great memories of the Clarion Choir from the days when I lived in Nottingham. In fact I have a recording they made way back then. Laurence Platt was a member, as was Bronwen Westacott. Glad to hear that they are still active. Burl.

Bromwyn still "runs" the Choir but Laurence Platt left, singing Folk ocassionally with John Bloor.

The CD is £10 + £1 p+p. [20 dollars, 20 Euros inc p+p]
Cheque / money order made out to "Nottingham Clarion Choir" to:

"Nottingham Clarion Choir", 35 Compton Road, Sherwood, Nottingham, Notts, England

The Choirs' (out of date) web site is here

Or I will organise it if you want to PM me

Found this by googling Bronwen Westacott. Is the CD still available? I was in Nottingham before the Clarion formed but sang with Sheffield Socialist Choir and helped organise the first Raise Your Banners Festival now singing in York with Chechelele,
