Subject: Lyr Add: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO PEACE ON EARTH From: GUEST,Frank Hamilton Date: 05 Jan 04 - 12:12 PM WHATEVER HAPPENED TO PEACE ON EARTH (Christmas song by Willie Nelson) There's so many things going on in the world Babies dying Mothers crying How much oil is one human life worth And what happened to peace on earth? We believe everything that they tell us They're gonna kill us so we gotta kill them first But I remember a commandment Thou shalt not kill How much is a soldier's life worth And what happened to peace on earth? And the bewildered herd is still believing Everything we've been told from our birth Hell they won't lie to me Not on my own damn TV But how much is a liar's word worth And whatever happened to peace on earth? So I guess it's just do unto others Before they can do it to you Let's just kill em all and let God sort 'em out Is this what God wants us to do? And the bewildered herd is still believing Everything we've been told from our birth Hell they won't lie to me Not on my own damn TV But how much is a liar's word worth And whatever happened to peace on earth? No you probably won't hear this on your radio Probably not on your local TV But if there's time, and if you're ever inclined You can always hear it from me. How much is a picker's word worth? And what happened to peace on earth? Don't confuse caring for weakness You can't put that label on me The truth is my weapon of mass protection And I believe that truth sets you free. And the bewildered herd is still believing Everything we've been told from our birth Hell they won't lie to me Not on my own damn TV But how much is a liar's word worth And what happened to peace on earth? |

Subject: RE: Sing out Willie! From: nancyjo Date: 05 Jan 04 - 04:42 PM I don't think he's recorded it yet. He just wrote it on Christmas day. He "debuted" it in a concert to support Dennis Kucinich, whom he supports for president. The concert was just yesterday, I think. You can read more about on Kucinich's website. Or, you'll get lots of hits about it on google. nancyjo |

Subject: RE: Sing out Willie! From: Peter T. Date: 06 Jan 04 - 03:23 PM Be interesting to see if he gets the Dixie Chicks treatment. Probably not: ("Oh, no, that is just Willie, you know, good old boy, always was a bit weird with that bandanna, politics all a bit screwy, but sure can sing a shit-kicking song, and he has helped the farmers, means well; not like those mouthy women.") yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: Sing out Willie! From: Cluin Date: 06 Jan 04 - 08:31 PM Okay, so now I'll forget about that dumb "Beer for my Horses" duet with Toby Keith. Nice one Willie. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Whatever Happened to Peace on Earth From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Dec 11 - 01:49 AM I just discovered this song. I had never heard of it before. But there it was on Spotify. It looks as if it was released as a "single" in 2006 and has never been on an album. You can hear the song on YouTube, but that version is a bit different from the one on Spotify. In the YouTube version, Willie sings alone accompanied only by piano. In the version on Spotify, there are several other voices whom I can't identify, and a fuller arrangement, with guitars, drums, a sax, an electronic keyboard, etc. And they omit the verse that says "you won't hear this on your radio." I'd like to know more about the history of the song. Did it get any airplay? Who were the other singers singing with Willie? |
