There will be an Acoustic Folk & Blues evening at The Star & Garter Pub, 60 Old Woolwich Road, Greenwich SE10. click for map
It starts at 8.30 sharp. There will be a limited supply of free drinks for players. To avoid confusion this is not a "Session" There is a small stage which performers may use. The venue does not have a PEL yet, so we will be limited to two on the stage at a time - although mainly folk & blues all types of music are welcome.

You couldn't have picked a better pub Woodsie!

I saw Nick Harper there in 2002 - excellent venue - I've heard that the new Landlord/Landlady are really nice people. I'll be there on the 30th Jan.

Will there be others? or is this a one off. I don't think I will be able to make this one, but as I work on the other side of the river it would be easy to get to, if there were to be any.

Good luck

Chris

I am hoping to start off with the last Friday of each month, then maybe more frequently - but it all depends on the success of the 30th Jan. The landlord is putting up money for musician's drinks, but she obviously would like to see the event well attended and sell lots of booze as well! So please, if you can't make it, tell others!

Hi Woodsie

Technically "2-in-a-bar" is not "two at a time" but "two throughout the evening".

2 in a bar was always ambiguous and has been interpreted in different ways by councils. Greenwich used to stipulate "no more than 2 DURING the course of the day/evening". I noticed recently on their website that this crucial sentence is no longer there. I've also heard that Greenwich have eased up a bit. Still the landlord is aware of the law and is going to take a chance, therefore deserves our support!

I went there on Thursday to hear Julia Farino. They sell real ale!
Dave Silk is also promoting Jazz duos once a month.

It's great to see that so many people support this new venue :-)

Linda and I plan to be there. The pub has doubled in size in the last year or so - by aquiring the house next door. They had both London Pride and Young's Bitter on the pumps when we looked in. The acoustics in the bar sounded good.

I will be away in Rome on the 30th, but will try to make the next one, although I may not attend regularly as I am living between Oxford and Bromley at present. It 's ages since I last saw you all Woodsie so hope to you soon.

I think it's going to turn out to be a brilliant evening. Unfortunately we can't be there as we have to attend a party down in Cornwall, but we wish you all the best for the night and will definitely attend the next one... we will be thinking of you all.

Good luck with your venue
I'll be there If I can, and if anyone brings up technicalities about "2 in a bar" etc it wouldn't be the first time I've confronted authority and said straight faced "this is not a musical instrument,it's a BANJO!"

Mr Red - yes the session's still going here's their website. They were closed down for a while by Greenwich council the other year, but the pub now has a PEL and it's business as usual on Tuesday nights.

Yes but the Cricketers is up for sale - so the future of the session is in the balance.

The Star & garter is a great setting for this new venture, some of the cricketers players have promised to show up!
