The most positve song about industry I know is Woody Guthrie's Grand Coulee Dam.
"In Washington and Oregon
You can hear the factories hum
Making chrome and making manganese
And fine aluminum"

William Brown, or Keep That Wheel a-Turning - fine, all except for the last verse. (Any time I've heard it sung, or seen it in print, it's been "....excursions down" in the fourth verse, and the last line scans better as "Seven more days and they sacked young Brown."

Hi Kendall, check out a marvelous Canadian singer/songwriter named David Francey.   He's got some great songs about working class people including factories etc. I met him when he toured up here in Alaska and have become an ardent fan. You will like his stuff I think.

Mike

If hydroelectric power counts, let me add Roll On, Columbia to kendall's choice.

There is an album from the 70's called 'Songs of a Changing world' - I can't remember all the names, but Nic Jones was one of them.
Songs about various industries/industrial revolution/etc

It's probably Bulmerised and unobtainable though.

G'day Foolestroupe,

I think I posted Snowy River, Roll a year or two back ... in response to a request - (myself, I had to sing it in the school choir ... not a good start in liking a song!)

Regards,

Bob Bolton

Oh ... Kendall,

Whose industry ... when ... where ... if not to say why? (It all helps select suitable material - or not.

Regards,

Bob

There's that song by Woody Guthrie in which three kids watch a plane up in the sky and each one tells the others of his father's part in putting it there. Someone here is bound to come up with the title.

That Woody Guthire song about the three kids would be "Ship in the Sky." One kid's dad flies the plane, another's works at "The iron and the steel," making the raw materials for the airplane. The third kid's dad "works at that place where they land." Very sweet song about interconnectedness. Excellent verison of on "Cicso Houston Sings the Songs of Woody Guthrie." .

The old IWW songs such as "The Commonwealth of Toil' (coal mining)

Si Kahn's songs such as "Gonna Work on Monday One More Time" (brown lung disease)

"Pittsburgh" (What did James & Laughlin steal? Pittsburgh!); should be on Pete Seeger's INDUSTRIAL BALLADS.

i was thinking she wanted ANTI industrial ballads..Luddite songs about
the dangers of mines, mills and machines. I guess she has a different focus. I heard yesterday about a factory where 4 out of 5 workers are missing at least one finger....I forget where, but i th8ink it was in Mexico--yikes! Hard to think of the positive there...well the good thing is the other worker has all of theirs! (so far!) And those others have their other 8 or 9 digits--today any way....and this was CURRENT news, not some long ago and far away story..
